NETS vs PISTONS

[thumb=B]captkidd1.JPG[/thumb]

New Jersey Nets' Jason Kidd goes to the basket past Detroit Pistons' Richard Hamilton.

With a 97-85 victory over the PISTONS Thursday night, the NETS moved to within one win of returning to the NBA Finals. NETS, now, have won 9 consecutive games.

New Jersey Nets' Kenyon Martin (6) and Kerry Kittles (30) celebrates victory with teammate Jason Kidd (5) against the Detroit Pistons.

Jason Kidd had career playoff high 34 points for New Jersey; and what a brilliant piece of leadership he showed on the court. NETS had 30+ fast breakpoints, 10+ offensive rebs with 20+ pts from the paint. NETS got every lose ball. What more would ya asked for? NETS played Basketball in a Championship style.

[thumb=B]captmartin1.JPG[/thumb]

New Jersey Nets' Kenyon Martin, right, and Detroit Pistons' Tayshaun Prince vie for the ball.

Kenyon Martin set a tone in the 1st qtr by scoring 14 pts. Rest of the game, it was all about Jason Kidd. With good decisions, couple of slam dunks almost by every NJ player, NETS overwhelmed PISTONS. There's no way PISTONS can push the 5th Game to Detriot.

Game 4 is on Saturday @ New Jersey.

  • **NBA Playoffs 2003 - FINALS

EASTERN CONFERENCE:**

  • Detriot PISTONS vs New Jersey NETS - **NETS lead 3-0.

WESTERN CONFERENCE:**

  • Dallas MAVERICKS vs San Antonio SPURS - Series tied lead 1-1.

^ Good game...Nets are going to the Finals. I am hoping Dalls wins, because the Nets can take them.

Matsui - you call it a good game ?? No defence, no offence. The so called best defensive team in the NBA couldn’t handle a bunch of rookies’ offence, how do you think they were going to handle Dallas/SA ? Jason Kidd as MVP :hehe: another joke.

One of the most boring games I have ever watched. Dallas or San Antonio whoever it is - Nets dont have a chance. Infact even a non qualifying Western Conf team like Sonics can beat the hell out of this NETS.

Asif: NBA is all about matchups. Teams like NJ and Pistons match up much more evenly. Nets have Mutombo sitting on the bench. For what? They are a talented team that is going to give problems to the Mavs, because they put a hand in your face, are just as, if not more athletic and can race up and down with better decision making than them or the Spurs.

Asif_k, it seems you've contradicted urself a bit there. The "rookie" Nets being able to see off a defence such as the Pistons' is a negative? Don't think anyone in the league has been able to pull off 3 straight over them. The Mavs and Spurs play almost zero D. So how will it be harder to penetrate theirs?

The only problem I see in a Nets-SA/Dallas series is matchup in size (which is always an East-West issue). And still think Nets can pull it off, more so if it's Dallas. Plus they run the floor way better then either.

I'm curious, who would you nominate for playoffs MVP at this point?

Matsui - NETS are a talented team ?? Yeah, If you say so. I will wait to see how they will play against Spurs/Mavs. I saw them in Last years NBA finals, they got 4-0 whopping from lakers :). They are going to give problems to MAVs, How ?? Do they have better offence than Mavs or better defence ? You think NETS are going to beat Mavs which came to Western Conf Finals by beating Blazs and Kings. You are a Day Dreamer, aren't you ?

NETs wont even qualify for playoff If they remove this whole Eastern Western Conference thing. As if making intot he NBA finals through a Quota system isn't bad enough, you guys are expecting Jason Kidd to get the MVP.

Asif, you crack me up.

MVP does not equal "the best player on the best team" or the superstar who leads an already playoff contender into the post-season.

It's the player who contributes the most to the group of guys he has to work with, and extracts the maximum out of them for the club by leading from the front. (think T-Mac, Garnett etc.) Someone who fights the odds and comes up with the numbers and plays.

And just to remind you, at no point did anyone nominate Kidd for the MVP. In fact, I only asked who you would nominate (and still don't have an answer), since you brought the point up yourself and scoffed at it. :)

Are you telling me that the Lakers from last year compare to the Mavs or the Spurs from this year?

They are going to create problems for the Mavs because they matchup well. Dirk/Jefferson-Collins(edge- Dirk)...Kidd-Nash (no contest-edge Kidd)...finley/Kittles-Harris-(Edge Finley)...najera-Lafrentz/Kenyon (edge Kenyon)...bradley-walt williams/Collins/Mutombo (Edge Nets)

Moreover, detroit led the league in defense..guess who was number 2.

Net's have a 6-1 record on the road in the playoffs

mavs, almost lost to blazers sans Derek Andersen and Scottie pippen...took them seven games to beat Sac without Chris webber...

This ain't cricket chanda...this is a man's sport.

MVP: No doubt..is Kevin Garnett..Or T-Mac..take Shaq away and Kobe would be avg 20 points a game with all the double teams...he is at best the second best player on LA. Tim Duncan without Robinson is looking at numbers dropping significantly...

Diablo - Detroits best defence is a overly hyped and If their best defence is having tough time against the NETS, then how can they handle the offence of west coast teams ?

NETS are a total mismatch with SPURS/MAVS. We will see that.

About the MVP - Why not talk about the NBA MVP instead of Play off MVP. Jason Kidd is like 'ANDHON ME KANYA RAJA'.

Earth to Asif,

The regular season MVP has already been awarded to Tim Duncan.
The playoffs MVP is what remains.

sure, let's talk. I'm game, but have yet to hear a nominated name from you. :)

Diablo - Did I tell you that anyone nominated Kidd for MVP ? How can they, when he is not even good enough for west Coast teams, Didn't we see him play at Phoenix where he was a failure. He can be successful only among 3rd grade east coast teams.

Ever been to the NETS game and heard how the Crowd Chants MVP MVP everytime Kidd touches the ball ? It's funny that you compare Kidd to T-MAC and Garnett (Forgetting Duncan :) ). Kidd is nowhere near Garnette or T-Mac who led their team to Playoffs Single handedly. If you still cant get it, try watching him play in Last year's NBA Finals.

Matsui you really have short memory, Dont you, Mavs won the 1st and 4th game with Scottie Pippen in the Team, MAvs Beat Portland in 2 games in which pippen played and they lost 2 in which pippen didn’t play, so it didn’t make any difference whether Pippen played or not.

Same with Kings, C-Webb Played 2 games - Kings lost 1 and won 1.

So Matsui - Looking at your match up it seems NETS are going to beat Mavs ?? God I cant wait for 4th June. Do you have similar matchup for SPURS too where you think that NETS have advantage :hehe: ??

And since you are taking one player away from every team like Shaq from Lakers, Robinson from Spurs, How about taking Away Kenyon Martin and see where is NewJersey NETS.

Diablo - Ever heard the name of Nick Van Excel for the Playoff MVP ??

No you didn't 'tell' anyone, I was just asking who you would nominate since you seemed rather amused at the crowd chants when Jersey are playing in Jersey in front of their own fans (hint hint). By the way, have you heard crowds in Seattle shouting "MVP, MVP" when Payton had the ball, or Pierce in Boston, or Webber in Sac-town. I hope you see what I'm getting at.

hahaha, I don't know from where you're assuming I'm some sort of die-hard Kidd supporter. I said T-Mac and Garnett are what MVP's are all about! Heck I even used them as my examples to define the term, how could that mean I consider them below Kidd. lol

To me Kidd is a brilliant point guard, prolly the most intelligent one in the league when running the floor. If he can lead Joisey with bravado in the NBA Finals, then he may be up for it.

I dont think he is the most Intelligent point Guard in the League, Is he better than Gary Payton, Allen Iverson, Mike Bibby, Steve Nash - NO WAY. If he appears to be intelligent then it is because of the plays made by Byron Scott .

And Even If I accept that he is the best Point Guard in NBA, So What ?? Are NETS going to beat MAVS/SPURS to win NBA Title ?? NO. Is he worthy of MVP ? NO.

The only competition there is Payton. The others don't even come close, not in the current season anyway. By the way, Allen Iverson is not a point guard.

Once again, Kidd's no playoff MVP material for me either, yet. If he can make a difference in the Finals then he might be worthy. But I guess you don't see it that way, rather conisder Van Exel's burst against Sac-town reason enough to mention him. Fair enough.

What Position AI plays on then ??

We are talking about Play offs and its not about how many point one scores, its how you lead your team against big opponents. Van Excel did it in style against the Kings and Blazs, He led his team from the front and it is only because of him Dallas is still there in the play offs.

I will consider Jason Kidd an MVP candidate if he performs well in the NBA finals against a quality team.

Good lord, let me help you my friend.

Here you go, follow the link (link )

Allen Iverson is Philadelphia’s Shooting guard.
Their Point guard is Eric Snow.

Nets - Pistons series is prolly the most boring of all the playoffs series this year. There is just no competition. Nets are giving the pistons an "innings defeat" NBA style :D I watch only part of the games just to keep up with the score.

MAVERICKS vs SPURS

[thumb=B]capttim1.JPG[/thumb]

San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan (21) puts up a shot over Dallas Mavericks forward Eduardo Najera (14)

Duncan and the SPURS snatched home-court advantage from MAVS as Tim scored 34 points and pulled down 24 rebounds in the SPURS' 96-83 win over the MAVERICKS Friday night. Tony Parker poured in 29 for San Antonio.

[thumb=B]captparkertim.JPG[/thumb]

San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan(21) encourages teammate guard Tony Parker(9).

SPURS started off great with Tony Parker and Tim Duncan offensive game but what amazed me tonight that these two guys played awesome defensive Basketball. Parker was offensive and able to convert lose ball into the fast breakpts.

[thumb=B]captmike2.JPG[/thumb]

Dallas Mavericks guard Michael Finley (4) makes a shot over San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan (21) as guard Stephen Jackson (3) moves away in.

The SPURS outscored the MAVS 58-37 in the second half. Though, SPURS turned over the ball 15 times but came back good. 15-2 and 7-0 run in the 2nd half was led by Parker, which sets the domination tone of SPURS for the rest of the game. Tim Duncan scored straight 30+ pts for the fourth consecutive time for SPURS in playoffs, becoming second SPURS player to do so after G. Gevin in 1979.

[thumb=B]captdirk2.JPG[/thumb]

Dllas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki (41), is helped off the court after being injured in the 4th quarter

MAVS lost the lead, lost the home-court advantage, lost their star player. It sucked Dirk Nowitzki left the game in the fourth qtr with a knee injury and his status for the rest of the series is uncertain. Shawn Bradley also left the game with an injury but this is how the series goes. Players get injuried; and you never the series you expect to go into the 7-Game becomes limited to 5/6 games. Nick Van Exel, Raja Bell had limited support for the MAVS.

Game 4 is on Sunday @ Dallas.

5Abi, Just wondering, do you follow WNBA?
