a brilliant singer.i must say:)i am not into ghazals and old songs ,but her voice has such melody and charisma that i have to listen to her.

Way back---in 1973, during my vacation visit to Lahore--and invited by Shoaib Hashmi, Saleema, Samina Ahmed, Hasnat Ahmed, Abbas Shafi and Maryam Hussain...to participate in their blockbuster "SUCH GUP" (which started in 1971 by the name of AKKAR BAKKAR.. influenced by America's all time favorite "SESAME STREET"...and did have its own BIG BIRD with voice over by Shoaib Hashmi..) my segment with Abbas Shafi & Late Hasnat Ahmed (bro to Shamim Hilaly) also had a charming visitor from "J" Block-Model Town, Lahore..seeking ( as per script ) to perform in the show...through her voice...and to be judged..in a lighter mode that the program was partially a sitcom.

She sat in the centre--dressed in typical eastern attire---and head down with single spot light---proceeded to sing---watched by her fiancee standing besides the camera during recording.

As the recording--in single take---ended, there was a deafening silence.

Shoaib Hashmi and his wife Saleema--looked at each other most surprisingly!

Hasnat, Abbas Shafi & Myself---literally forgot our lines! that we were to deliver--criticizing the new entrants performance in a lighter mode!

YEP-----she was none but NAYYARA NOOR who was born to the Pak_Showbiz through Shoaib & Saleema's GUP SHUP...that there was no looking back for her---after that episode at PTV-Lahore Studios.

Her first super-hit was TERA SAYA--JAHAN BHI HO SAJNA---PALKEIN BICCHA DOU---SARREE UMR BITAA DOUN for the movie--probably "AAS" picturised on Shabnam (singing for Mohammed Ali)

Nayyara is the pride of pak_showbiz by many counts! Her husband Shehryar Zaidi formerly of PIA...settled in Karachi, is himself a gentlemen and has done good work in dramatics as an actor.

Sheri & Nayyara as parents-in-laws...with their family, live a wonderful and peaceful life in Karachi. Nayyara keeps intact with music and has many a good renderations in recent past--to her credit.
