I noticed that narrow ties are back in fashion, though it seems that it is limited to showbiz industry only. Business attire is still wearing wider ties. Am I right in assuming that? I do attend business conferences and I dont want to change my Tie collection as of yet. Some of my ties are rather expensive and I dont want to retire them prematurely.
skinny ties are definitely back in. i know thats the only ties by bro opts for, he doesnt even wear the wider ones anymore. though hes 22 and i doubt his older seniors wear them.
my husband wears skinny ties but he definitely wears the regular wider ones too. he also has some classic hermes twill ties which i doubt he will put away just cuz people have started wearing skinny ones. but still i mostly see people with the regular ties around. rarely do i see anyone with the narrow ones but i definitely prefer the narrow ones over the others.
definitly dont retire any ties. wear them and i say get a few narrow ones and wear them whenever u feel. both, my bro and husband dont work in showbiz.
Skinny ties are restricted to 2 types of people: young hip men and fashionista women…and i assume you are neither? i would stick with your classic and timeless wide tie with a nice oxford knot…in your line of work this will look professional and moreover: age appropriate. By the way, i have a nice collection of skinny ties, nuff said

Ok so what industry are they in. I have not seen any skinny ties in any of my conferences yet.

no they didnt. they pretty much only wear 3 button, single breasted.
but they both rarely wear the complete suits. unless they have meetings with high level seniors. either way my bro wears the slim ties daily regardless of wearing a suit or not. he thinks its a fashion statement specially since hes got many compliments on wearing skinny ties.
husband doesnt care which tie he wears as long as it goes with the entire outfit but only wears ties if hes wearing a suit.
if you're attending conferences i'm assuming ur mostly wearing suits. i suggest u go for ties that go with the entire outfit, u dont want it clashing with the color of shirt/suit ur wearing. go ahead and venture out, wear skinny ties. however, if at the conferences there are only senior level execs or old people that only wear the regular ties, then stick with the wide ties. just my two cents.
I don't like skinny ties on business suits for professional meetings. They look fine on celebrities or waiters or DJs or biz casuals, but in a corporate set up, I think the regular traditional tie is the way to go.
I don’t know why, but skinny ties look as if they are strangling an individual:cb:. A medium/wide tie will never essentially go out of a fashion, with regards to a corporate environment and would be more acceptable and not mention respectable.
If you want to play around with your work attire, consider playing around with different cufflinks and different colours of ties.
Not all people can carry skinny ties.. young people that are snapped often are the best candidates for skinny ties.
Middle-aged men (read as buddhay) should stick to the medium-width ties.. that are classic! Small prints are IN.. stripes be it vertical or hori.. are out.
