maiN aapko ek practical joke sunaataa huN jo mere saath huaa…lol…merii bhabahii ne mujh se karele mangvaaye. maiN store gayaa. nazar nahiiN aayaa to ek goraa thaa usse explain kiyaa aise:

“do u have bittermelon? its like dark green. narrow at both ends, bulging in the middle and its has ridges and its skin is kinda shrivelled”

At an Oriental store I saw tinday and sign said Punjabi Tinda on it. LOL

aaaaaaaaaawwwwwwww…i said that coz i genuinely felt that way coz u r one of the few people on GS who have correctly given names of so many different veggies in urdu and that too with good roman urdu transliteration. knowing that u do NOT speak urdu that often its even more commendable. u shouldn’t be shy…plz do talk in urd sometimes and i’m sure u r good at it. good luck :)**

wow…u love cooking…great. i’m a desi born and raised in a village up until age 14 so i dunno how to cook but i’ve learned to cook some basic western dishes for my niece and nephew i do cook for them on the weekends. my Bhabhi Jaan doesn’t know how to cook western food…lol…me a desi painDoo cooking italian food hahaha**

anyways, ya… i love cooking all sorts of foods… italian is my favorite food… but i only know how to make it in desi style lol. with a lil bit of masala. hahahahah
baking, frying, roasting… anything. cooking makes me happy! but i dont like eating things tht i cook
its hard to make western stuff.. cuz i m addicted to masalas lol

phool ghobi- cauliflower

Aam- mango
piyaaz- onion
aaloo- potato
Saib- apple
leemoo- lemon/lime
narangi/mosambi- tangerine/orange (not sure which one is which but I know they are both from the orange family.. lol)
tamatar- tomato
kheera- cucumber
gajar- carrot
Anaar- pomegranate
Ananaas- pineapple
tarbooz- watermelon
Kharbooza- canteloupe

thts all I can think of right now.. will add more if i remember

P.S. wht do u call karela in english? and wht do u call bell pepper & celery & pineapple in urdu?

There are different types of lettuce such as iceberg lettuce and romaine lettuce. Also, I am pretty sure cauliflower is = phool ghobi and cabbage is - band ghobi. Rutabaga looks like turnip but a lot larger in size.
