PEMRA has apparently initiated proceedings to cancel ARYs license…apparently because of the fact that they aired the video showing the destruction of Quaid residency in Ziarat (even though that footage was aired by almost all other channels). However, the notice has only been sent to ARY. And the order came in at midnight last night:) Perfect timing!
Nothing on the ARY website…but ARY news is up in arms about it. This smells more than a rat. I wonder if ARY is even online in Pakistan right now?

not for the nest 5 years…N$ got authorization to rule by the friendly opposition, the PPP, just like the last 5 years. is haath de, us haath le!

Instead of their usual programming, ARY news has a live show on with anchors who usually come in for the night shows...and the way they are talking, it seems that closure is imminent.
Their conversation seems to revolve around PML-Ns intolerance for criticism, as ARY has been pretty vocal in exposing rigging, scandals etc. They are even comparing PML rule with Musharraf's rule, where they had fewer swords hanging over their heads back then as opposed to now. And additionally, they are mentioning the fact that PML-N has boycotted most of ARY talk shows for a long time now. So it seems to be very personal.

If PMLN starts the collision course with media, it wont stop there. After some time we will see different wings of the state colliding with each other (including courts and army). None of PMLNs previous governments were ended by the opposition, they were thrown out by presidents (supported by the army) fearing the meltdown of the country.

ARY was the only channel issued a cancellation notice....even though the issue of Quaid residency video was played by all channels. I doubt any other channel would be affected by this. ARY was sent 4 show cause notices in the same day! followed by a cancellation order:)
The universal Islamabad lawyer, Aitzaz Ahsan is representing ARY in court, as they have filed a petition in the High court against this.

i think ALL other TV stations must band together to protest and stop PEMRA from shutting down this channel...

Ok, Islamabad High Court has suspended PEMRAs order of cancellation. But I can see this getting uglier

people forgot or pretend to not know that sou moto was taken by SC on airing that footage? case i think is still in court and no decision has been made, court may instruct PEMRA to move, if they do what choice govt has?

Footage was aired by all channels, not just ARY. SC in its notice, told PEMRA to take appropriate action to prevent such instances in the future. PEMRA only took action against ARY by issuing a notice cancelling ARY's license yesterday... which is why ARY went to court this morning to stop it.
