Did any one here who remembers or heard mosoons of June-July 1967 in Karachi? Karachi at that time was still kept its old glory of cleanliness. Average daily pouring was 4 to 5 inches and in three days it adds upto 22 inches. But water vanished within hours from roads due to excellent systems of drainage. However that mosoon created havoc and distruction to Karachi no one could control it. A part from flooding, distruction and deaths due to lightening, falling roofs, electrocuting and drowning changed the shape of city suddenly. City never prepared for such disasters in the past will never be prepared in future. Due to defacing of Karachi in last four decades, converting parks and bunglows in ugly multistory buildings and commercial areas with limited electricity, water and sewerage systems, Karachi can not handle even few centimeters of rain now.
How far MK is responsible for these failures is anybody's guess. Any one who takes over administration of Karachi will face the music of corruption and inefficiency in such cases of deaths and disasters. mqm wallahs should not take it personally.

Newly built roads/underpasses either flooded or washed away. Ask a kid and he would tell you the the most important challenge of designing an underpass would be drainage of water.
