Firstly, the nazim system didnt exist too long ago so that would be an inaccurate comparison. Secondly, how can you see development when theres massive chaos in the city thanks to this nazim's ruling party. Kamal's tenure in the city govt was free of political trouble because they had no opposition and his party had sided with the Govt. Its easy to set sail in smooth waters, as opposed to turbulent waves my friend.
So do you want to give credit to Musharraf for the Nazim system?
Besides, whether its "Nazim" or "Mayor" you get budget for development of your city. MQM had Karachi mayors before while they were in Sindh/National govts too, but none delivered as much, their focus was mainly FB Areas, area around 90 etc.
Lets identify the real problems. A high shooting water fountain in a city which has absolutely zilch power is not a solution, neither are these collapsing underpasses or bridges. When the ruling party, which runs the organized crime in the city puts an end to this bhattakhoori, corruption, extortion, crime, then you can pat Mr. 'youtube par charha' Kamaal on the back.
How many bridges/underpasses collapsed? I would like to know, cuz I only know about one. MQM's organized crime aside, what is going on in other cities, are those cities crime-less? No mobile-snatching, no dacoities etc?
Re: Mustafa Kamal - Cruising Karachi - New Horizon
Captain1, the jamatia Nazim also did a lot of good work in Karachi, every sane person in karachi acknowledges it. However, whatever the good work done by Kamal, te efascism of this party and its ethnic chuavanism is as alive as ever. How do you expect people to forget it. If a criminal deos some charity, he remainsa criminal, and then Kamal is not doing any charity.
Yes there are crimes in all cities but no one is shot or tortured in Lahore for being a pathan or muhajir.

May be you can spell out what good work they did to help understand that?
His political party is a criminal, thats not the question here, we are talking about Mustafa Kamal here.
**Don't know about u ...
but before Mustafa Kamal .... it took me 1 hour to reach home frm office .... now i m home in 25 mins with garam garam rotiyaan from tandoor ....
n remember ..... cuz of Auto Loan .... the number of cars in Karachi is almost double
**
Hmmm.. Fair enough. If he is doing a good job for Karachiites then who are we to complain.
And I acknowledge that he has done more then any other before him, and what he has done has helped many people...
But before he can get the complete stamp of approval from everyone else, where even I would sing his praises throughout the heavens, he will need to fix some of the big problems...
^ .If he gobbled up 90% funds, he put the rest where it was supposed to go...The other political parties ate up each and every penny they recieved..
Yeah but lets not deify hm for spending that 10 percent... We can appreciate the fact that he is less of a criminal then the rest, but he still still did take 90 percent of the funds, even if its hypothetical...
No one from Karachi is asking for stamp of approval from anyone else. Just like we don't really care what the Sharif brothers do inside Punjab.
Whether you like it or not, Karachi is still a part of Pakistan... You might have turned it into your little corner, but its still says Pakistani on your passport. So what happens in Karachi is very much the business of other Pakistanis, as what the Sharifs do in Punjab is the business of those in Karachi and Sindh.
It is a very brief info on the mayor. It does mention that the plans executed by Mustafa Kamal were designed/proposed in Naimatullah’s tenure but it fails to provide dateline of the events when money was approved, what plans he executed from previous mayors, what plans he proposed and executed in his tenure.
Many mayors are said to have proposed plans in past, obtained money but the plans never materialised and money went back to the pool.

yes, that 10% figure is hypothetical indeed but what's not hypothetical is the work that was done under his tenure. And if one has two choose between two persons, one who pockets entire 100% of the fund that should go to the public and the other one who puts at least SOME percentage of it into the right use, which one we should choose?
It is so easy to spread lies on the Internet without being physically in Karachi. I have relatives in Karachi and they say it's much worse in Karachi after this guy has taken over- there's dirt all over, Only MQM murderers rule, Bhatta-Khori and mobile khori tops the charts, Indians sneak into Karachi like they are going to Bathroom, all gundas and badmash are rehnumas now.. what a joke!!! Best days or Karachi were when Gen. Naseerullah Babar was trying to stop the crime and that invited investors esp. from the middle east to invest in Karachi. Mustafa Kamal wants to make Karachi a heaven for terrorists like Mumbai is for Hindu terrorits(Shiv Shena).

I agree on crime, corruption, power, mass transit part. Do you believe that all problems can be handled in one go? If he did have a magic stick then I'll join you in beating him up for not doing all that in one go.
If other cities were not suffering from crime, corruption, water/power distribution then Mustafa Kamal should get the beating for not solving these problems while other mayors/nazims did. But that does not mean I do not criticize him for his short-comings, probably he can do much better, can we not give him credit for what he has done? Or do we give credit ONLY when someone has done each and everything 100%? Next you will question about unemployment in the city?
I may be wrong but I don't think Karachi police is in his full control, so he can't solve corruption/crime problems.
Spock bhai its easier said then done. Karachi had many other mayors/nazims in the past, they had money too but they didn't utilize and the money ended up being withdrawn by govts. Structures do not define city but when they do solve problems then you got to give'em some credit for that.
I give him credit for the good he has done, but im not willing to turn him into a god as some members on this forum are doing.
If he can resolve the real issues of this city, or even lessen their severity, theen I will say he is not only the best mayor/nazim in Karachi, but the best mayor/nazim in all of Pakistan!

And don't say none of them!
Of course I would go with the SOME percentage thief. But then again its just a matter of degrees. Ideally I would perfer someone who was a zero percent thief.
But in the absense of any other choice, I guess the SOME percentage one is the best option.
All im saying is, this guy by your own admission HAS or most likely has taken some amount of money meant for the public and spent it on himself.
So he obviously isnt perfect. But some members are apparently turning him into the greatest thing to hit Pakistan since Jinnah himself. And thats what I mean by low standards.
Still,
Because of the good work he has done, im not willing to write him off completely. All im saying is that before we can say he is the best, we have to see how he handles the big problems. If he handles those, then I will say he is thee best of Paksitan...

May your relatives live in the outskirts of the city. I have seen big part of the city and it is so much better after all the recent construction-trash is removed.
I give him credit for the good he has done, but im not willing to turn him into a god as some members on this forum are doing.
Thats all I am asking, there are people who make Zulfiqar Bhutto as god, Ganja as god, Altaf as god, even Musharraf as god... your or mine contribution is that we appreciate the good deeds and criticize bad and move on. I can't change anyone's heart to make them not believe in rats as gods.
If he can resolve the real issues of this city, or even lessen their severity, theen I will say he is not only the best mayor/nazim in Karachi, but the best mayor/nazim in all of Pakistan!
If police is given under his control like many mayors of the world have then we can talk about "real issues" here like crime, corruption etc. Until then he is as dummy as previous mayors on this front.

Musharraf's own chamcha, durrani a few days ago came to jawab-deh on Geo and admitted their nazim system failed miserably, so I need not say anything about that. Oh bhai, maybe you havent been outside of Karachi but comparing the crimes in Karachi and ANY other cities is not even worth it because they are EONs apart, and I have already posted figures from the official Govt crime charts at to how much crime in Karachi has increased dramtically over the last 10 years.
