True (and I totally agree with that statement). However, integration into the workplace of a Catholic school, means that one must be able to integrate into the working environment and also the working ethic. The working ethic is that a woman and a man can talk to each other in a Catholic school. Now it is possible that in a Muslim school this may or may not be frowned upon..but this is a Catholic school, so the same work ethic which she is trying to bring in is that of a Muslim ethic into a Catholic school. You can see how the wearing of a Niqab whilst teaching at such a place would breach such a work ethic and not lead to integration.

Not really Cappy. It's a Catholic school, different work etiquette. Would a Muslim school allow women to flirt with men?
Also, the purpose of the Niqab is to segregate her from males and in the process from everyone else.Segregation is the opposite of integration.

so the purpose of "integration in society" is so a woman can sit next to men, men can freely see a woman? is that what you call integration? Segregation would be if she were to demand separate buildings for men and women.

No no. Purpose of integration is to "bring people of different racial or ethnic groups into unrestricted and equal association, as in society or an organization; desegregation."
This means if some male teacher has a question, he can go up to her and ask her. That's integration, there's many ways to integrate, but you cannot segregate half the population and expect to be able to integrate.

On the issue generally, it is wrong to condmen or forego a woman of her of right to wear the veil. Where is the line drawn? Do we then attak goths, moshers etc.
However, in this case I do not understand why she feels the need to wear a veil to teach children, there is nothing in islam (to my knowledge) that states that a women should cover herself in front of 8 year old children. Why has she not worn the veil to the interview? Has she not then been fraudulant in her inetrview, and this is considered a sackable offence and her contract void.

The definition was taken from answers.com I think. But I dont think including religious groups is appropriate in the UK, as this is a secular country.

I dont know the details.
One thing I think that's been missed is that the purpose of the veil is to segregate herself from males, but by doing so she would also be segregated off from the children also. Would you disagree with this logic?

^ as indicated in articles children didn't have problem hearing/paying-attention to her when veiled i.e. they didn't feel segregated, its just the 'males' are feeling segregated because they can't see her.

So you're saying the males arent really segregated? It's just that they perceive themselves to be segregated despite the fact that she's wearing a veil for the purpose of creating a barrier between herself and others, specifically the men?
I do not buy into the idea that to educate a child you only need to be able to understand a voice. If this were true, everything could be done more cheaply and efficiently using robots or computers. There's something human about being educated by a teacher. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that all my teachers never wore a Niqab, and I was able to communicate with more than just a voice.

PS, I'm sure most non Hijabi/Niqabi women couldnt care less if you can get "satisfied" by seeing their hair/face or not. This says more about your own nature, than theirs. Lack of self control..Learn to control it..and if you can't just lower your gaze.
