Re: Multiple Wives...
I say without the "special circumstances" monogamy flops like a sinking turd. :D

British accent on the phone and dinner - what if she wants both?

Just call my name and I'll be there. :D

Re: Multiple Wives...
From what Ive heard, this arrangement was favoured back in those days when the Quran was written, when the times were uncertain (7th c. Arabia), when the difference in the men to women ratio was apparently huge; so a man was allowed to keep 4 wives cos he was really only protecting them, taking up responsibilty, oh ofcourse as long as he treats them equally.
but today, neither the world is 7th c. arabia, nor the woman. my point is, there must be as many men as women that need getting adopted.

As the song goes...

Your criticism of Hindus is unneccesary firstly...but i would like to clarify some points with you...
I was always told that the husband had to seek the first wives permission before remarrying so can you provide proof from Islam that this isnt the case...
And as for your comment about this being us arguing over Allahs word...not quite...this is a mubah issue...so its ok to either like or dislike it...
Catwoman
I dont think LuxuryItem is pro polygamy...his point from my understanding is that treating two people equally isnt meant in the literal sense...
so i give wife A a mango and she likes it isnt equal if i give wife B a mango and she doesnt like it...you give them something they both like...
All people are different so the equality isnt literal...its doing what makes both of them happy...
But in reality thats a herculean task...i can only think of negatives...
Are there actually any men here who woud honestly want more than one wife?...
Re: Multiple Wives…
true:k:
it was at times of war when men were killed…and widows were left behind.
these days in some countries there are MORE MEN than women…for example Pakistan and India. in this case, if a man marries more than once…it would leave ALOT of men without any wife at all.
Re: Multiple Wives...
in the olden times having multiple spouses was common no matter what your religion was but the whole point is that it is the 21 century now and times have changed. A lot of things don't apply now.
it just gives way too much power to the husband. He can do anything he wants. Once the honeymoon period is over and the husband starts to get used his wife's looks he can go shopping for another wife. The husband never needs to be faithful or invest any effort into the relationship.
If the husband isn't treating his wife properly she can never protest cuz the husband can just say "shut up and do what I say or I'll get another wife for myself because I have enough money to support both of you". I just see it as being sooooo morally wrong.

Your comment, especially the part I've bolded, implies that the Quran is outdated and we shouldn't follow it because it doesn't apply in todays time (Nauzubillah).
Re: Multiple Wives...
I agree, people trying to say Quran doesnt apply to modern times hence u shudnt do what it allows you to do. Quran was meant for all time, so if u think it shudnt or doesnt apply today, u seriously need help.
people the gap between men and women r growing, there r more women, women r going to increase and increase more rapidly then men.
if u can treat them equally (i'd like to think happily) go for it, if u cant dont, simple as that, no ifs or buts.
Re: Multiple Wives...
At least you're marrying a man with an equal amount of stupidity level as you.
Re: Multiple Wives...
So TRUE!!
Re: Multiple Wives...
I will tell my husband he can have another wife if he wishes. I will bring it up myself, he doesnt have to.
Re: Multiple Wives...
there isnt more women in this day and age....certainly not on the ratio of 1:4!!!
in alot of countries there are more MEN than women
Re: Multiple Wives...
the only reason you'd want another wife is if first one doesnt satisfy you....hence you're looking for sexual fulfillment.....which is why men go to prostitutes.....you dumbo!
Re: Multiple Wives...
The ratio will be 50:1 @ one stage, so judging by that alone I would have to say that the number is growing. But if you were to dig up statistics, women outnumber men.
So anyone who does what Allah swt allows us to do, its as if we r going to prostitutes, or that Allah's word doesn't apply nowadays.
Re: Multiple Wives…
and y would u do that?

give me the exact figures of the ratio of men to women....if you want to prove your point....
maybe in the future.....many many many many years later this will be the case....but not right now.
Re: Multiple Wives...
If a man does marry more than once, he wouldnt truly love or be sincere with either one.
Islam ONLY allows it when the man can treat them eqaully....otherwise its not allowed. its IMPOSSIBLE for any man to treat both wives equally.....
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLLLLLLLL
1.) The difference is nothing really... just that one is HALAL and one is HARAAM AND WILL TAKE U TO HELL .
2.) why would Allah make it halal if it is impossible. Why even mention it if no one will ever be able to do it?
Even the wives of Rasulallah felt jealousy because they suspected that he liked one more than the other, ect. Ayesha (r) is quoted as saying she felt jealous of khadijah even though she was dead because she felt rasulallah (S) still loved her a lot. Subhanallah.
Either some people on this site and completely ignorant of matters concerning life, or they are evil and hate islam. May allah guide us all. ameen.
Re: Multiple Wives...

Companions of rasulallah took more than one wife and there was no strange ratios at that time. He never told them only to marry widows or disabled women, and he never told them to wait til there is a high ratio of women.
What's your answer to that? ( I dont really want to hear it, just say it to yourself)
Re: Multiple Wives...
He taught by his actions. He didn't always have to say things for it to register to people. Among the wives he had, please look at WHO he married. Most of them were orphans or widows, aside from Aisha (R), and most of those marriages were political marriages. Prior to his polygamous marital state, he was married to Khadija and he didn't marry any other woman.
Some people just believe in unIslamic implications taught by ignorant maulvis. Just because a maulvi tells you men can be promiscuous, your intelligence should teach you otherwise. There are clear verses in the Quran that one should not pursue marriage with lust as a basis. That would disqualify any multiple marriages based on "Oh well, I'm tired of you, and I want another woman".
