Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
Muslim can surely pay respect to saints (and other dead) by visiting graves and praying FOR THEM. In fact Muhammad (SAW) has stressed Muslims to Go to graveyards as much as possible to pray for dead and to keep reminding yourself what is the reality of human.
What N3m3sis is pointing to is visiting these graves/tombs and praying for SELF. Asking these dead saints to do a favor/fulfill the need which is off course shirk
i see the muslims in there praying for the dead, do we really know what they are saying?the videos were more to show the hindus praying in mosques/shrines and no way was i focusing on the muslims in the videos.
taking care of a temple and making sure it's not destroyed is unislamic? i wish you could start a thread in the religion section so nonmuslims like me could understand those many quranic verses that are referring to nonmuslims/nonmuslim practices some more.
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
No. Taking care of tomb is also not unislamic. Only thing unislamic is to ASK for something (or ask for fulfillment of wish) FROM these dead.
As I said before basi Islamic believe is that "there is no one but God" so all Muslims are required to ask FROM allah and not humans/statues/animals etc etc.
Unfortunately at most of the tombs overwhelming majority of Muslims performs the shirk (unknowingly may be) and ask for things like children, wealth, health etc from these dead Saints
as for Non-Muslims, there is no restrictions on them from Islam and they can perform their rituals as per their believes.

Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
I really don't think I'm going to get any sawaab by serving such places of worship... Though if I have a family to feed and this is the only job that I can get, well in the case, Allah hu alam.
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
Is there any non-muslim actor who prays namaz for the success of their movie? I am specifically asking for Namaz and not laying flowers at Gharib Nawaz's Tomb.
A.R.Rahman !! is the best example he is converted Muslim !!!!!!
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again…This year aswell!!!
I am little bothered about Bollywood.I have posted the news just like last year.
Infact in India many Non-Muslims do namaz. This may be for respecting Muslim sentiments.I believe we should not interfere in Salman’s personal life.Let him do whatever he wants
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
i spent a lot of time around learned muslims learning and finding the correct interpretation of certain quranic verses and totally exposing myself to islamic culture, although i still need to understand some of the quranic verses since interpretations of various verses are even misinterpreted by muslims themselves. but even after being exposed to islam/islamic culture and totally loving/respecting some aspects of it, i'm still happy to be nonmuslim
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
Nisha25, actually a lot of the Islam you see these days has been tainted by cultural influences, and while I don't say that all of it is bad, some of it goes entirely against the basic fundamentals on which Islam was founded. Worshipping at shrines is again, a questionable practice. How can you expect a human being, and that too a dead person, to fulfill your desires? You definitely can and should pay respects, pray for their souls, but to bring them to the level of God is illogical (according to true Islam). But yet you see so many muslims doing that. That doesn't make it correct.

nope i learned islam from learned muslims, ones that know the quran inside out and like those verses talking about "idol worship" are ones i just cannot accept and where it's not right to say merry christmas to a christian or greeting nonmuslims on their festivals is wrong b/c it promotes nonislamic practices and other religions.
i just pick the quranic verses that my mind allows me to accept and those that i think are beautiful and since i cannot accept certain verses that talk about nonmuslims, i still consider myself a nonmuslim
the videos i posted were showing more how hindus are free to pray whereever they want, however they want including in a mosque, whatever makes them feel one with God. i was in no way showing the muslim aspect of it or saying what they might or night not have done is right. i am no one to judge them.
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
Actually saying merry christmas has been stretched to another dimension. Many issues you see are stemmed from rising insecurities in muslims worldwide to establish their mark. Unknowingly, by making such claims, we don't realize we are alienting ourselves and passing a totally wrong message, whereas our prophet (peace be upon him) taught us to respect nonmuslims.
I can understand how you feel about the word kaafir. I guess this isn't the place to talk about it...maybe we can start a thread on the things that are bothering you in the Religion forum where we can discuss our views nicely.
Thank you for being so open. As a muslim, I feel it my responsibility to clarify any misconceptions about our religion, but I am not a scholar so I apologize in advance already.

There is no "correct interpretation" of Quran. According to my understanding (a low caste Hindu agnostic), each Muslim is supposed to read and interpret Quran according to his/her own understanding. Furthermore, according to Quran there is no coercion in religion. So no Muslim has any business telling others that their understanding is wrong, as peer/social pressure is just a subtle form of coercion. It seems the Muslim societies all over the world do not practice these basic tenets of Islam. A Muslims friend of mine told me that Quran is a word of God and we are ill equipped to understand it. Islam is too good for human beings, and we need to evolve further to practice it properly.
Another problem of the Muslims is that they frequently mix religion with politics. And any student of history realizes that when religion merges with politics,it becomes devoid of spirituality, compassion and tolerance and becomes a instrument of domination.
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
N3m3sis
Actually if it were left to us to interpret Qur'an we'd be in a sad mess :(....perhaps that is why there are so many misrepresentations about Islam today because so many of us think we are equipped with the power and knowledge. It is never the religion that is questionable but the human beings who represent it. God makes perfect things, we mess up.
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!

Niksik, my understanding is that originally there was no clergy in Islam, because Prophet wanted Muslims to communicate directly with Allah. If there really was a need for a "correct interpretation", than a Catholic Church like institution would have been mentioned, which would ensure that such an interpretation would be followed uniformly amongst Muslims.

I think most of the Muslims take advice from the local/TV/Web mullah, rather than understanding on their own. Who has the time ?

Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
When did i say he has no fault or that he is perfect? pls if you hate it so much find better way of venting.
Everyone needs to put in effort in their career no matter how big they are. But he is an established star and doesnt need to go thru such means to gain publicity like you make it out to be.
Peace Maham
I have nothing against Salman Khan, I was addressing what I believe to be a "larger than life" attitude in you towards him. He's not going to stop his PR he was being interviewed for that reason - to raise his profile for his next big thing. It was a promo - if he does not need to do it, then he will not do it, but he does everything in the media to raise his profile. He does not come across as a diva who goes around saying - I don't need to do this, but I do it to please my fans, does he? No, he is quite sensible with his PR work, but as you say he is not just "not perfect" but I believe he is a normal human being - his crew make him "seem" to be more than he really is, and this is part of show business.
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
But he made us this way so we can travel the journey of our life making good and bad decisions all aimed toward our final destinations.
Yes, the Prophet wanted us to communicate directly with Allah and we do, during our namaz and when we make duas and do zikr of Allah. However, we do need knowledge of what must be done and how our lives must be led. The Qur'an is a complete book of social order for us BUT we cannot understand it completely, even the ones who know Arabic. We need someone who is qualified to interpret it for us and so we have people who go through years and years of training that has been passed on since the time of the Prophet (pbuh). However those people are regarded and respected as our teachers and noble scholars not prophets or gods.
Re: Mr.Salman Khan does it again and again...This year aswell!!!
Salman Khan does this every year. Arleitter, please do not take negative criticism coming from muslims as some fundamentalist fatwa but if you read the basic principles of Islam, one, and the greatest sin of a muslim is to commit "shirk" which means to associate other gods with Allah, then when muslims perform acts such as these, obviously it will not be appreciated.
Just think of hindu sentiments if Amitabh Bachchan starts to join the muslim community each year for eid namaz. Doesn't make sense does it? Mutual respect for each other is one thing but going overboard just doesn't seem logical.
Having said that, I guess it's none of my business how anyone wishes to lead their lives, but to expect muslims to cheer at this act of Salman Khan's doesn't seem reasonable.
