MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony
they are not the 'victim' kinds that want to get sympathy for me. lets avoid using the terms like 'always' and 'never' because you and I both know that that is not the case.

some people may have experiences where they were treated liek outsiders and some who were never treated like outsiders, but niether experiences is a universal truth.
How much time have u spent in Lahore to know is this is correct or no?

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

so yoi are saying that no ethnically non-punjabos have ever been treaed liek outsiders in Punjab?

I find that impossible to believe. I have examples of my cousins, who are not the type to play ethnicity card and are fairly well established in lahore and were born and raised there. so I know atleast a handful of people who have experienced it. You can go ahead and question their motives or what nots, I have no reason to do that.

but then we can talk about the whole saraiki issue in Punjab too.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Fraudia,

“equating idiotic MQM to mohajirs is equating moronic Jiye Sindh to sindhies.
screw MQM, we were talking the quota system.”

MQM won 100% seats from Karachi by Muhajir vote. Therefore MQM=Muhajirs. This equation does not apply to Sindhis because whenever fair elections were held in past Sindhis did not select Jiye Sindh to represent them.

“and what do you mean by 'they are minorities in karachi' karachi is a part of sindh, and they are not a minority in sindh.:

Sindhis are minorities in Karachi. For all practical purposes Karachi is ruled by the centre. So called Sindh Government has dick control over it. PPP won majority of seats in Sindh but due to center’s interference MQM who are actually in minority in Sindh are ruling the whole Sindh. They are also part and parcel of the same quota system you are talking about. What have they done to correct the situation?

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Some Karachiites tell me that in the 70's and early 80's, they could not even get a job if they could not speak Sindhi, or did not have an ID card that stated place of birth as Hyderabad or a place other than Karachi.

That's what let to the birth of MQM.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Mostar95,

“This is vice versa! In the early years when there was no quota system, there were more able and good persons to control these institutes! With the arrival of quota system, the quality declined! Now the quality is found in private institutes like Aga Khan and Sir Syed University!”

How early can you go? Quota system existed even before partition. Quality never declined in early years because there was no MQM in these institutions. As regard Aga Khan and Syed University, these are for rich people. You can by seats in these institutions even if you do not meet their requirements. Do you know that there is a quota System in Agha Khan too. If you are Khoja, you can get admission without any difficulty, payless fees, even you are sick, your treatment is free! Otherwise Agha Khan Hospital is a Bucher House for middle class and poor people. If patient comes in emergency, Agha Khan management ask for upfront down payment of lakhs of rupees depending on the condition of the patients. If someone can not pay, they would ask you to take your patient and go to hell! I am surprised what merits are you talking about?

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

but sindhis voted by and large for PPP. so while PPP has been watching sindhi interests, and Jiye Sindh is the militant idiotic group. Sindhis did not have to select Jiye Sindh. They had all there interests represented by PPP, Jiye sindh just did all the dirty work, ranging from successionist talks to oppression of non sindhis. If I recall correctly, it predates MQm by a few decades, yet no goovt in sindh shut that group down.

unfortunately for Karachi MQM was both, people voted because they did not trust other organizations to represent them, and that speaks volumes about the distrust there. Even after all the ghunda gardee of MQM, it was not that way in its initial days, and it is not the same that it was in the days of MQM faction clashes and Military action. I support MQM about as much as I support PPP i.e. zero.

hey man so go deal with center. and MQM has not done anything to correct the idiotic quota system, but that does not change the fact that it is an idiotic system. The point was that it is an idiotic system, and should be done away with. Sindhis by and large are not a disadvantaged group in Sindh. I mean I can see equal opportunity type seats for bengalis or makranis since they seem to be doing menial work. But sindhis? thats ridiculous, sure some sindhis are underprivliged, but so are non sindhis, just a drive down some of the slums of Karachi would show you that. What about those underpriviliged folks.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

very true, on job advertisments in karachi it was written, interior sindh domicile candidates only. Dont take my word for it, pull up random newspapers from that era and look at jobs sections.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Now I can see why MQM came to prominence.

So, when Farid says that 'MQM won 100% seats from Karachi by Muhajir vote, whereas Sindhis did not select Jiye Sindh to represent them' goes to show Sindhis never needed to vote for Jiya Sindh, because they never had it bad like the Karachiites.

Now non-Karachiites are crying because all of a sudden the Karachiites are getting the jobs, which they could not get previously because they were born in Karachi.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Aalsi,

"Now non-Karachiites are crying because all of a sudden the Karachiites are getting the jobs, which they could not get previously because they were born in Karachi"

I am Karachite by birth, I got job even before I was graduated from NED. Not only me but almost everyone got job who graduated that year. Don't misguide people here. NEDians had always given priority in jobs not only in Karachi but in whole Pakistan. As far I remeber most NEDians prefered to remain in Karachi or wanted to go abroad. I always read advertisements for engineers, which said that "graduated from Jamshore need not apply". While NEDians got the jobs very quickly, Meharn graduates were looking for jobs for many months after graduation. Mind you, Mehran graduates were not less quilified than NEDians. Your apprehensions are based on false or biased thinking.

farid

the institution quality of NED was much higher than that of Mehran and even the cross city rival dawood college.

There are job postings in US which say MBA from top tier university required, which is very different than saying vote registration card from po dunk county mississipi required.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Fraudia,

“but sindhis voted by and large for PPP. so while PPP has been watching sindhi interests”

Again wrong. PPP is not a regional/racists party like MQM. In PPP, there were/are Muhajir MPAs and MNA’s. PPP looked after every one’s interest, that is why it is still alive and popular all over Pakistan. MQM is a criminal party with limited self interests, usurping rights of majority. I don’t understand why are you justifying this? Before MQM muhajirs were well off but they were not contended and remained un-happy till today.

“unfortunately for Karachi MQM was both, people voted because they did not trust other organizations to represent them, and that speaks volumes about the distrust there. Even after all the ghunda gardee of MQM, it was not that way in its initial days, and it is not the same that it was in the days of MQM faction clashes and Military action. Who cares whether you support MQM or PPP for that matter. The fact is that MQM is in power, voted by Muhajirs to rule them. For Muhajirs, whether MQM are killers, kidnapers, rapists, extortionists, etc still popular with them, that is why MQM gets 100% muhajir vote whether you like it or not.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Farid, as a matter of interest, as I am here to learn, do you know how many NEDians came into the job market compared to the total job openings in Karachi in 70's and 80's?.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Fraudia,

“the institution quality of NED was much higher than that of Mehran and even the cross city rival dawood college.”

Not according to HEC (Higher Education Commission Islamabad). Mehran’s number is in upper 25 percentile where as NED is at bottom. Why I should believe you when Government of Pakistan is saying 180 degree out what you are saying. World would accept Government’s version not of yours. If you live in USA, you know that, they give a damn whether you are graduated from NED or Mehran or any other university. Once you qualify their standards, you are in.

Aalsi,

“Farid, as a matter of interest, as I am here to learn, do you know how many NEDians came into the job market compared to the total job openings in Karachi in 70's and 80's?.”

I can’t answer that because I don’t have statistics with me. However I can assure you that we all 75 graduates (Mechanical Engineering) got jobs with in weeks.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Fraudia,

“is versus was

There was no HEC in 80’s and there were no standards to compare the institutions. The perception which college/university was the best was subjective biased and based on individual opinion.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

even if i agree with that,

we still cant use heavily disputed numbers based on a quetioned criteria from last year to figure out what the situation was in 1980s.

so your posting of those stats is meaningless.

Fraudia,

"we still cant use heavily disputed numbers based on a quetioned criteria from last year to figure out what the situation was in 1980s.

There were no criteria in the 80's. So you can not say NED was better than Mehran. Now Government of Pakistan has published these stats, who give a damn whether you accept it or not.

FARID

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

The criteria was in the mind of people who were hiring, and NED grads were in higher demand in Pakistan, and overseas in general compared to Mehran grads. The facilities and programs at NED at that time were better equipped than Mehran. It was not the top destination for engineering students in the province for no reason. You may still be able to pull numbers and see how the cream of the crop went to NED and Mehran mostly got the leftovers. I suppose hiring companies wanted students with higher demonstrated capabilities, and since NED had the reputation of a tougher institution to get into, that probably played a role.

no one needs to give a damn about whether or not I accept these rankings, even though the local papers were filled with critique of the methodology.

The fact remains one can not use today's rankings to go back 20 years in time and claim that Mehran was better than NED then. These rankings are meaningless for that time priod.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Tell me why PPP, the most shamelessly corrupt party in the history of Pakistan with leaders like BB and Zardari who are world famous for corruption and nepotism get 100% of Sindhi votes? Is it not because Sindhis vote along ethnic lines?

Today, you can see MQM has Sindhi, Punjabi, and Pushtun members and leaders in it, so you are wrong when you say that MQM is only for Mohajirs.

Re: MQM Headquaters is symbol of religious tolerence and harmony

Fraudia,

NED is 10th out of 13 and Dow Medical is nowhere in the list.
