Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

Unfortunately Dawn and Jang don't have good search engines and next few days I will be in Pakistan and will be busy there otherwise I would've dug few sites for the info.

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

The most prominent one in Islamabad was the one in that awami markaz building near Marriot/PTV Islamabad. I forgot the name of that park though something BTR, but the best companies there were AND-OR Logic, Enab Tech, Csoft

Just remembered the name: Software Technology Park (STP-I)

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

so folks, how many parks are we talking about now vs 90s vs 80s?
number of companies, number of ppl employed by these companies, sales, exports etc etc?

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

there are only 2 in Islamabad now (the largest ones in pakistan), out of which the one i mentioned before is the oldest one. Theres 1-2 in Karachi, one of them is at ceasers centre. Theres about 3-4 in Lahore, but apart from one, the rest have like 1-2 companies, and thats it. Most of the main companies were already operating in the 90s.

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

i thought i will post this here is well instead of making a new topic, but it is about 3 months old

PM okays new industrial estate near capital
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has approved a proposal of establishing an industrial estate at the Chakri Interchange near Islamabad by the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF), in collaboration with the Government of Punjab.

A formal decision to this effect was taken in a high-level meeting to review the performance of overseas Pakistanis division held here at the Prime Minister’s House on Friday.

An official announcement issued here said that in the proposed plan land will be provided by the Punjab government while infrastructure will be arranged by the OPF on an agreed profit-sharing formula.

The premier said that the government was focusing on skill development so that Pakistani workers can fetch higher wages. The areas of particular interest are construction, hotel services and engineering.

Mr Aziz asked the OPD to encourage and facilitate effective participation of overseas Pakistanis who are keen to participate in the country’s economic development.

He underlined the need for persuading the overseas Pakistanis living in different parts of the world, including the US, European Union, Middle East and Far East regions, to invest more in Pakistan in view of an extremely favourable investment climate. The meeting was informed that during the financial year 2006-07 a total of two,105 complaints were received from overseas Pakistanis and most of these complaints have been resolved while the remaining are under process with concerned quarters

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

as for software technology parks, the biggest one will be Lahore software park, currently under construction and to be completed by dec 2008.

looks like a beauty.

for more information

spoke, elahi or shall i say loan defaulter is developing pakistan, UNBELIVEABLE. na

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

this one software park is said who have exports of $50 million a year itself.
and according to pervaiz elahi phase 2 will begin shortly, which will be much bigger on 50 acres and should have many many more companies and many times more exports.

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

You forget Pervaiz Elahis biggest project for Lahore, the mass transit corridor... Alhough it sort of shelved till after the elections...
Funny how CJ never stood in the way of that project?!?

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

Unbelieveable indeed.

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

Sohaib, so didnt you say uptil 2 years Pakistan had no software parks according to you? Elahi’s park isnt built, or is based on older foundations. So tell me, why does the largest software park in pakistan to date (that is actually complete) date back to before Musharraf :hehe:

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

well i was only talking about industraliation in here and put up the software park as it was being discussed, metro project is another elahi project and it never really got fully under way for the TJ (thief justice) to stop it, as land aquisations were made towards the end of october, by then it was to late for him to stop it, had it been earlier it would have well been stoped.

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

well i dnt know about the largest software park in pakistan, but even if you say there were, they would be far from large, so stop over acting and jumping up and down like its your birthday :hehe:
this software park by elahi, or as you say loan defaulter is the first big software park, what you could actully call a software park, now a 2/3 company park but a big park with 100s of companies, but according to you these development or as you call them tuttay pajja developments were done in ns era is well :hehe:

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

In close to a decade, with billions coming in, Mush has not even completed as many projects as NS in his 2,3 years of rule.

Kindly stop pretending u support Mush for the good of Pakistan, rather than the good of your MQM

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

looks like spock number 2. :hehe: so now im a MQM supporter is well. :hehe:

and ns made more projects then mush has :hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe:

like i said to spock which he failed to answer, i ask you the same question, please tell me what projects were bigger then the lahore ring road, SIE, M3 INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, m1,m3 motorway, kashmir highway, lahore metro, 100s of dams, 100000s of roads. ETC
infact the LRR is bigger then all ns and bb projects put togeher

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

What other projects did the CJ personally stop? Why did he stop them? Any sources or just rumors?

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

8 years of dictatorial rule means its far easier to get things done… In Autocratic dictatorships You dont have to worry about dealing with the opposition, or laws or anything else as you have to in Democracy…
The difference between the Mushu dictatorship and the Nwaz govt is that Mushu has but to give an order and his chamcha say “Jasay aap ka Hukum, Hazoor,” while Nawaz had deal with far more complications…
Nawaz govt also had to deal with a deadlock on foreign aid, and sanctions, and other endemic problems. Mushu dictatorship is awash in money.
Nawaz govt was also never aloud to finish the tenure, so its impossible to say what he could or couldnt have done… One thing is obvious, that given the time, if he was abloe to complete the M2, he may have also completed other highways…

Still, despite all the acheivments in infrastructure, Mushu govt still couldnt handle the truly difficult tasks of controling rampant corruption, illliteracy, poverty, terrorism, and the ever widening wealth gap…
Ifrastructure projects are easy in a dictatorship. People arent involved, there is no need to make any reforms to build a highway… They are just window dressing… The true test is if Mushu could resolve the deep structural problems in the educational system etc… On this he failed… Even those infrastructure projects that did involve a lot of legal haggling and politcs he failed as with the Karachi Circular Railway etc.
And now, he’s destroyed the political scene when we finally had some hope…
So while Mushu is a AWESOME leader, yeah! What happens when he’s dead and buried? Another Military dictator takes his place?

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

Lol. :hehe:

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

Lol.. Is that it, he is an MQM? LOL... No wonder! Those guys need to venture out of Karachi for a weekend to see the rest of the country:)

Re: Moving towards industrialisation and job creation

This project has been on the paper work for a while... Experts were hired, maps were drawn, estimates made... Do you think planning for such a major project just appears over night?
