Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

So many questions :hehe:

Ok, I try to give answers step by step.

First of all, I would talk about general perception and status of women in Sindhi society. For Muslims, Quran is the most sacred document. In Sindh, we still hear old saying ’ Niyani sat Quran - girls are like 7 Qurans’.

Coming to incident of migration on the basis of alleged conversion, civil society and Sindhi Media reporting and condemning everything without any bias. There are laws against the exploitation of woman. As I mentioned in other thread, situation is bad in some areas of Upper Sindh, but over all Sindhi girls (both Muslim and Hindu) go to Universities and Medical colleges. Hindu lady doctors are working in almost all the cities and towns of Sindh. This shows that overall situation is under control.

Regarding arrest of abductors and their helpers, recently when I visit my hometown, my cousin told me that Pesh Imam was arrested and being investigated because he is suspected of performing Nikah of a Hindu girl with a Muslim (after she converted). Though Sindh is Sufi since centuries, but common men don’t like marriages between Muslim and converted Muslim todate.

Not sure of how accurate this article is but it is tragic to read

Native American Genocide Still Haunts U.S.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Columbus was patronized by queen Isabella of Spain. The same queen with her husband Ferdinand broke all records of atrocities against Muslims after conquering Spain in 1492 (same year, when Columbus discovered America leading to further exploitation of the locals there)

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

I also believe Jadunath Sarkar and KS Lal. Also the records kept by al-Utbi, Mahmud al-Ghazni’s secretary, in the Tarikh-i-Yamini document several episodes of bloody military campaigns.

And your “conversion due to Hindu caste system theory” flies out through the window when you look at Caste system among South Asian Muslims - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Hindus who converted to Islam were not completely immune to persecution due to the Caste system among South Asian Muslims in India established by Ziauddin al-Barani in the Fatawa-i Jahandari.,[SUP][9]](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_conquest_in_the_Indian_subcontinent#cite_note-8)[/SUP] where they were regarded as an “Ajlaf” caste and subjected to discrimination by the “Ashraf” castes*.*

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

We have a separate thread on caste system and Islam. You are welcome to give your inputs there

BTW There are many historians, who support caste system as one of the major motivating factor for conversion.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

I just brought up caste system in Islam to debunk your claim that Hindus converted to Islam to escape caste system in Hinduism.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

My dear friend, Islam doesn't support casteism at all and casteism as followed in some parts of India and Pakistan are not same in Middle east and other Muslim countries.

Its due to influence of Hinduism that we find Muslims following caste system in sub-continent in this way. Read poetry of Sufi saints, they denounced all caste differences. Bulleh Shah's murshid was a non-syed, though he was from an orthodox Syed family. In Nizam u din Aulaya inn, there was no differentiation on the basis of caste and creed. This shows how and why people still revere these Sufis irrespective their faith.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Sindh was not partitioned, like Punjab and Bengal. Millions moved in these two provinces on both sides of the border. My family migrated from gurdaspur and now we don't have even a single relative there.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Hinduism does not support discrimination based on caste. Like the sufis , hindus too have many sages and saints who are venerated even today and belonged to "lower castes". Hindus do not care for the caste of a saint/sage as long as they get spiritual fulfillment. Heck, Hinduism does not even support anything like a caste system. What it has is "Varna" which is different from jati (caste) which is man made. Varna is roughly similar to western class system of middle, aristocrat, business and working classes and is a artificial/intellectual classification of society. The religion does not even endorse discrimination based on varna either. Many scholars believe that the system of jati that we have now emerged only about a thousand years ago. To blame hinduism for the man-made caste system is wrong and is similar to blaming Islam for say the female genital mutilation followed by many African muslims or blaming buddhism for the chinese tradition of footbinding.
Having said that, even if "lower castes" converted to escape the "evil caste system", what did they really gain ? They traded being oppressed and hindu to being opressed and muslim. If you say caste system in Islam is because of Hindu influences, what is preventing the muslims from disassociating with it. Why is there no well known fatwa banning caste system and promoting inter-marriage between various castes , ashraf and ajlaf based on compatibility ofcourse. So a syed should not have a problem marrying a untouchable convert who can support his family well.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Another thing to think over is for all those who claim caste system mainly caused conversion, Punjab has the highest population of dailts in India (30% of the state). Looks like many of the dalits stay put and most of the converts were the casteless buddhists.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

What about the accounts of Sudras getting melted lead in their ears, if by chance they heard any verse from vedas? What are the basis of such allegations?

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

If he used force he didn't succeed much there, as only 12 % of people in Karnataka are Muslims. You can subjugate and rule people but its not easy to convince them change their faith especially if that is being followed for thousands of years.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

We can turn this around and say what is preventing Hinduism from diassociating itself with it?

Those benefiting the most from this discriminating businesses are one of the reasons to keep things like they are.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

wait wait wait. In all religions like Islam and Judaism, we see people migrating towards other areas, if they are persecuted religiously. Why not Hindus being persecuted in some parts of India migrated towards say Lank, Nepal and Indian areas where Muslims don't have influence/ Do we have some historical statistics for such migrations?
