Most Persecuted Religions in History

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

One more thing, I discussed while someone wanted to know origin of Shab Daig, that Kashmiri cuisine didn’t contain beef.

Kashmiri cuisine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kashmiri Pandit cuisine has had the earliest influence on Kashmiri cuisine. Beef is strictly forbidden in both Kashmiri Pandit and Kashmiri Muslim cuisines, in keeping with the age old Kashmiri tradition known as Kashmiriyat.

This again indicates that Muslims tried to integrate with the Hindu population and their best to live in harmony

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

According to Dhamasutras (religious books),
because sudras were born from the feet of the
universal soul Brahma (god), they were destined
to serve the three upper castes/varnas born from
His mouth (Brahmins), arms (kshatriyas),
and thighs (vaisyas). (yamazaki 1997, 4). The
hymns of Rigveda justified the hierarchical
system of social orders saying that all these four
orders represent the Creator, Brahma. It is believed that from the lord’s “mouth” were born
the Brahmins, so they became a priestly class;
from His “arms” were born the kshatriyas, so
they became warriors; from His “thighs” were
born vaisayas, and they performed ordinary
work, like business or agriculture; and from
His “feet” the sudras were born and so they
performed the dirty work of scavenging, disposing of dead animals or unknown human bodies.
The untouchables were told by the rules of
religious books that if they accept their position
in life without questioning and by doing their
assigned duties they become eligible to be born
in the next life in a high caste. They were also
told that because of the sins they committed in
previous life, they were born in untouchable
castes. In this way a system of hierarchical order
was created which survives even today. In fact,
it is the longest surviving apartheid-like system
of exclusion in the world.
The old Hindu law prevented untouchables
from reading/reciting the Veda (religious book)
or participating in the veda religious ceremonies
of the Brahmins/Aryas. Accordingly,
If a sudra intentionally overhears the veda chants,
he shall have his ears filled with molten tin and
dark-red pigment. If a sudra dares to recite the
chants himself, he will have his tongue cut out;
and if he learns the chants by heart, his body shall
be split in twain. (yamazaki 1997, 5)
Thus, traditionally sudras/dalits were excluded from engaging themselves in reading
and learning profession and participating in
Aryan religious customs and ceremonies. There
is more to it. (yamazaki 1997

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Thats interesting. One of my friend was reading autobiography of Ambedkar and I asked him ’ aap ko irrelevant material paRhne ka chaska hai’ :hehe:

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Ninja, from which religious book, these things are quoted?

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Ekalavya's thumb incident was not because of his caste read the Mahabharata for the real story. The story of Shambuka is of dubious origin according to scholars. Manusmriti is not a religious book. None of the smritis are. They are only valid if backed by the vedas (Shrutis) and can be modified to benefit the people. Open a separate thread on the smritis that is a diff discussion altogether . Smritis not backed by vedas are sort of similar to your weak hadiths and not relavent . Smritis were the constitutions of the kingdoms and could change from time to time.
Rama embraced Guha - a dalit. Sita and her children found refuge in the household of valmiki another dalit. Vyasa the man who composed the mahabharata and divided the vedas into the 4 parts was a dalit woman's son. Lord Krishna was a Yadava which is considered as a backward caste today. Come on man, read for your self, don't just accept propaganda.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

hindus have seen plenty of systematic persecution for sure. but 90% of this is from other "upper caste" hindus.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

I know the hymn which has been twisted here. The original hymn describes the origin of man from different parts of the lord with strengths and aptitude to do different things. No where does it say that one part of god is superior to the other. The vedas allowed for movement of people to different varnas based on aptitude and was not intended to be hereditary like it is today. Please provide reference to original where it specifies that since shudras arose from the feet they had to serve the other castes.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Actually we are not discussing weather hinduism support persecution of dalits or not but weather dalits were persecuted or not....:D
Cant same logic be applied to islam?

A

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Agree with you there. The exploitation was by twisting and lying about the original. The unlettered people usually accepted it. I am not from any upper caste but took interest to read up on my religion now that translations and literature is widely available and I realised how much people have been exploited.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

:hehe: you should search about legal system of ancient india…

how every caste was punished for similar crimes…

And you must know about Brahma Hatya…

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

The hymn is from veda..........:D

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

How can U apply the same logic there when the premise is that people converted to something that was better. So where is the "better" in Islam if it is just "old wine in new bottle" esp since Islam is supposed to be an egalitarian religion. It is a waste of conversion and similar to cheating people by not keeping the promises. Now buddhism really does not have a caste system atleast as far as I know. So it is a better religion for that.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Nice info :k:

Reminds me Smriti Irani (j/k)

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Original with translation please :D

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Are you referring to Chanakiya’s work?

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Exactly. Doesnt mean that it was allowed by religion. There are many incidences which have people saying that such actions are against Islam and don’t blame the religion of peace for the action of barbaric people. The above incidences fall under that category.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

 Nice one

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

So what do U need to be convinced ? Systematic genocide and complete extermination of Hindus. Maybe Kerala would be more hindu if not for those 4 lakh people who were forcibly converted. This is a claim made by tipu sultan himself. Look it up for yourself if you don't believe me.

Re: Most Persecuted Religions in History

Its time for us to open a thread on Tipu
