most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

^But he is the person who foiled six Soviet attempts to capture the strategic Panjshir valley.

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

That he did. But that is the only location he had that supported him. He was not the Lion of Afghanistan. He was the Lion of Panjsher. That says something about his support and appeal. Hekmatyar and Haqqani had a broader support across most of Southern Afghanistan.

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

^Yes.

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

But soviet supplies still rolled through panjsher, though the mujahideen didn't take over any cities and fared worse after soviets withdrew and left behind najibullah. CIA and MI-6 were running their own operations regardless of ISI and they did keep him supplied.

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

Russia is at the same strength as it was in the 1980s....or getting there. there are plenty of similar characters/groups like Hekmatyars and Haqqanis to go around and resistance against outsiders is so easy especially when there's so much hate for those outsiders at the present times, am i wrong?

I see nothing that's stopping the afghan taliban from gaining strength after the outsiders leave and i feel like it is very possible. what will all those in pakistan that are fine with such a scenario say then...?

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

if taliban don't screw up more..they will be happy and say.."i told you so"

if taliban screw up again......they will say "the exit strategy wasn't proper"..

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

Russia at same strength? Yaar itna mat piyo.

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

why don’t you think so? i said getting there in strength did you miss that part. Under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, Russia has been re-establishing much of its lost Soviet-era strength, read that in quite a few sources. Russia can again be the big threat it was before

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

who is taliban? the people of afghanistan will never accept America, russia or india to control them so you can call them taliban, terrorists or freedom fighters what ever you like when it suits you, but bottom line they will not be controlled and they will never accept anything unless they are ruled by islam.

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

ok so you’re saying that the US govt, CIA is responsible for supporting the pak taliban and the taliban in afghanistan? at the end of the day all these conspiracy theories have to make a bit of sense…

Re: most in pakistan are fine with taliban taking over in Afghanistan

The US is in Afghanistan to eliminate Taliban who provided Al-Qaeda the safe haven that allowed them to plan and execute the 9/11 attacks, and to help Afghans rid themselves of these terror networks for the sake of peace and stability. Dear forum readers, did not the Taliban inflict untold damage upon the nation of Afghanistan under their dark regime? The Taliban regime not only kept Afghans brutally repressed, but, with great force and purpose they kept progress and prosperity at bay by turning Afghanistan into the world’s largest prison camp. Thousands were massacred, women were forced from the country’s schools and jobs, and many were left to beg on the streets for food. Did not the Taliban rule by fear? We should recall that their rise to power occurred at a time when the US had disengaged strategically from both Pakistan and Afghanistan. This would seem to undercut the argument that the violence and instability they have wrought is somehow a “reaction” to US involvement, would it not? The rebuilding of Afghanistan is a global commitment, and NATOs International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) coalition in Afghanistan continues to grow; now numbering 49 contributing nations. The people of Afghanistan have begun experiencing the kind of freedom simply unimaginable during Taliban rule, and that can be credited to the efforts of Afghan, US and NATO forces. When we talk of Taliban control or influence over any part of Afghan territory, we are not talking about anything other than the ability to instill fear over the population. The vast majority of Al Qaeda and Taliban victims have been other Muslims. US actions against these terrorist networks, and our support for other countries fighting the global War on Terrorism (WOT) are acts of self-defense; not aggression. Every nation has the right to safeguard its land and to protect its citizens. Al-Qaeda has openly taken responsibility for 9/11 and countless other acts of mass murder, and US is helping to eliminate their threat. Would you not agree that all nations have the right to eliminate obvious threats to their land?

Taliban made their agenda clear through constant attacks on mosques, schools, shopping centers and at the Sufi Shrine. Taliban’s attempt to take over the Swat valley and enforce their evil agenda reflects the kind of motives they hold against the great nation of Pakistan. Do you really believe people are walking around with love and support in their hearts for the Taliban, who continue to commit and claim responsibility for inhumane acts of terror?
Our president has made clear that as the US begins to turn over security responsibility to Afghan forces we are committed to leaving a more secure and stable Afghanistan. We do not seek to keep our forces in Afghanistan any longer than is necessary, but our current effort demonstrates that, while in Afghanistan, we are committed to winning the WOT. Our staged drawdown from Iraq is a perfect example of how our future plans in Afghanistan will unfold. ISAF will continue to serve in Afghanistan until Afghan forces, as determined by the Afghan government and the international community, can assume security responsibility.

US commitment will be long standing so that our country can maintain the trust we have built with the Afghans who do not want to once again be left at the mercy of Taliban. Together we can defeat this menace that continues to haunt our nations.
