Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
That’s a pretty twisted response.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
I dunno why most people are trolling @geminifromkhi. Even if the question is slightly naive, allow picking on new members just cause they’re from a society different from yours. Nothing wrong with finding out if “hear-say” is true or getting an opinion on what they’ve read.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Agree with you but cant deny the importance of upbringing. But obviously cant blame everything on upbringing, everyone is responsible for their actions
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Not that its not common back home but I guess main mistake of “farangi” Desis is that they accept it.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
I think it depends on each individual community or social group. If you grow up involved with friends that are strict Muslims then you tend to grow up like that too. If you grow up with more liberal people, then you tend to be more liberal too. But most important and influencial aspect is parents. If they inlist their kids with a good Islamic upbringing and help guide them, then generally no matter what the rest if the environment is like, the child will generally be a stricter Muslim. I don’t think it has to do with countries… Of my friends here in Texas and the ones in Pakistan, its my Pakistani friends and family that are considerably less conservative… Its all about parents and friends I believe.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Let me tell you..1st generation pakistanis in general here in US tend to be more conservative than people in Pakistan. Yes, you will find guys and girls who are over the top here in US but they do it openly so can stay away from such people. In Pakistan, everything is happening there also including drinking alcohol, girls hooking up with guys, getting naked for guy, high end prostitution, wife swapping and sharing but it’s all hidden from public. No will openly admit it in Pakistan and it’s done behind the scenes so you will never know who is being genuine. I’d rather have people being genuine rather than taking a huge risk and finding out their true self later on.
And let me tell you the guys from Pakistan who come to US for uni are mostly the ones who go out of control–clearly these guys are well off that’s why they can afford college in US. I’m a US born and raised guy and I don’t drink alcohol or smoke, don’t approach or interact with girls without meaning but I too have sinned (by having Pakistani girlfriends with intention to marry them) but I had good intentions, but these guys are ridiculous. Not even exaggerating..these guys are all about fooling around and having fun–they were drinking alcohol, smoking, partying all the time instead of studying, sleeping with white and Asian girls (one guy straight from Karachi even made it into a competition to see how many white girls he can sleep with, while a guy from Lahore was living and had sexual relations with an Asian girl in her hostel for 2 years and then ditched her to go back to Pakistan and get married). Yes it is much easier to do all these things in US because it’s readily available and open but Pakistan is terrible when it comes to morality and actually following islamic principles. Theyll pray 5x a day but trust me they do every immoral thing on the side as well. Priorities in Pakistan if you have money is to just have fun and live life (hang out openly with opposite sex, guys drink alcohol, sleep with girls, attending parties and functions and running after celebrities and who’s who of lahore, etc.).
What I noticed is that Pakistani girls who were raised in Saudi tend to be a bit better than girls raised in Pakistan in terms of morality and maintaining proper and professional distance from opposite sex. Girls from Pakistan are a bit out of control..have you not seen it?
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Drinking, sleeping around has nothing to do with the west. You have the same opportunities in Pakistan too. I have spent most of my life in hostel or living alone and believe me, I wasn’t even a bit surprised or had a cultural shock when i came to Canada from Lahore.
It all comes down to how a person is and how much does he know about his limits, how much control does he has on himself because of his moral/religious values and how much he is a push over by his friends. So judging a guy that he is a pakistani and has lived in Lahore/Karachi/Islamabad throughout his life doesn’t mean he would have slept around or been drunk. If he is a guy of weak moral values, then believe me he would have.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
As for Adnan in Serial, he hung out with the wrong type of crowd–some really weird shady characters. My theory is he was a low level high school drug dealer and him and his friends were involved with the wrong high level drug supplier leading to the murder of his girlfriend. Inner city Baltimore is known for its ruthless drug dealing and gangs. And why else would Adnan give the guy his car and brand new cell phone and just randomly let him drive around his car around town..yeah right..that guy was his drug dealing partner going to get some more marijuana from the supplier and something went wrong..Who else carried pagers in 1997 in high school?! My friends and I never carried pagers..at least in my school it was the school drug dealers who had pagers back in that era. And as a petty school drug dealer it would also make him quite popular as he is often characterized throughout the podcast. And this theory also explains why Adnan never openly speaks up, there is still a hint of mystery about him that only hurts his case..maybe drug dealers threatened to kill his family just like his gf or he has done some other illegal activity that would make him end up in jail either way. But he is def hiding something.

Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
That’s a huge number of us Pakistanis living abroad admitting to dadabadalities.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Adnan and Saad are just new kids on the block.
Let me tell you one famous reply that Sheikh Rashid (politician) gave in a local gathering, long time ago, when someone asked him “Sheikh sahab, when will you get married?”
His reply was… “if you could buy milk off the shelf easily, why would you purchase a cow!!!”
So, it’s all about opportunities and resources, whether it’s outside or inside Pakistan. Due to influence of media and peer pressure these things happen and will be more common in our next generations in my view.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
If anything I sometimes have to question the ethics of the pakistanis that have come from pakistan to either study or work here.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Accepting this only on an anonymous forum. Wont ever admit to it in real life
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Sheikh Rasheed is a politician and well you can expect Pakistani politicians to do anything.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Understood. I was giving you a reply not trying to attack people back home.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
I know someone who went to UK to study and his facebook pictures were so…Astaghfirullah
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Like I said before, Pakistan has its own share of morally bankrupt people. But either because of the fear of being caught, or maybe cos they didnt get a chance, Pakistanis are still not as much into these things as Pakistanis living abroad are (I don’t know for sure, this is what I think, NOT ACCUSING ANYONE).
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
OK so I have another question. How many girls are doing it in Pakistan? Too few I would say. Yes they might be out of control, might be wearing tight fitted clothes, might be going out with boys- but drinking and sleeping around, I don’t think so.
whereas judging by what you guys wrote on this forum, I guess girl sleeping around is so common and sort of understandable that a lot of you guys say oh I dont mind what her past was.
Remember boys will be boys. Doesnt mean boys have the liberty to do whatever they want, but thats a harsh reality. But reading such stuff about girls really gave me a shock.
And again, you guys are much more naik, pious and everything than I am, dont get defensive while answering my question, just like I dont get defensive when you guys tell me of immoral activities going on in Pakistan.
