Before you read on, I must clarify that I am not pointing my fingers on anyone here, just curious.
When I was listening to the podcast Serial, I was kinda shocked to find out that the protagonist Adnan and his best friend Saad were sleeping around. Saad mentioned this on the podcast, when he could have easily hidden this bit of information.
And then I stumbled upon this forum. I guess most members are from US/Uk/Canada. Sleeping around and drinking doesnt seem like a biggie. Like OK I understand where you guys grew up everyone was doing it, but didnt you know it was totally impermissible? And because you were growing up in such an environment, shouldnt your parents have been more vigilant?
AGAIN, I am not trying to be a goody two shoes here, I am just curious as to how things are over there, and how westernized Pakistanis living abroad have become.
At least I will think a thousand times before marrying someone from UK/USA now. Especially after the claims that most guys there are like that.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Man these western Pakistanis seem so cool with everything. They don’t mind doing immoral acts & don’t mind if their to be husband/wife has done those too.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Damn Saad and Adnan
The answers to your both questions are YES and YES.
And the response to your judgement is that, its still a no-no in MAJORITY of desis living abroad. Those who drink or sleep with others are still handful. Muslim communities are getting stronger every day. Even those not active in the community still take good care of ethical and moral responsibilities so yes, just becuz you get few opinions in favor of drinking/sleeping etc shouldnt let u jump to any conclusion as of yet.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
I couldn’t speak for other British Asians, but I personally haven’t slept around, drunk, smoked or done drugs ever. I don’t really hang around people who do that either. And it’s not due to parental influence that I’ve never strayed. I’ve had friends in the past (Asians) doing that, but I took a step back from them and that scene once I found out. The guys and girls who are doing that are doing it undercover anyway, not much the parents can do when they don’t know about it until it’s too late.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Out of 100 Pakistanis living abroad, you will find 10 or less being ok with drinking or sleeping around. If it was so common, there wouldn’t be so many discussions on it. Sure, most of us don’t get shocked when we hear about “immoral acts” anymore, doesn’t mean majority is partaking in it.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
Well I have to tell you - people livng in Pakistan are almost always gay because of the segregation in the sexes. The frusteration is just to much for them to handle so they have it with any gender. Bass mainai notice kiya tho must be a fact.
Oh and wait - wasn’t there a guy who was having interocurse with deadbodies - yes thats what all people living in Pakistan do.
Re: Morals and \ethics of Pakistanis living abroad
There is no dearth of morally bankrupt people in Pakistan too. But lets exclude the criminal elements, lets talk about the ‘average’ people. How many of them are going around doing all this stuff? Very few I would say.
