Shark® Deluxe Steam Mop - Bed Bath & Beyond
Re: Mops ..
Dettol reminds me of the hospital smell in Pakistan.. by the way, where do you find dettol in the US?!?! I have never seen one.
Water diluted with Dettol and then pocha, desi style.
LOL...you made me laughhhhhhhhh!
I got one about 2-3 years ago from the Indian store..maybe check there…
I don’t even remember why I got it…![]()
I hate mopping…
unfortunately the best thing is the ‘poocha’ lagana…

lol.. the only smell that I remember back from Pakistan is Dettol- the house cleaning lady uses it day and night to do pocha, and the smell never leaves.

dettol smell is one stubborn smell...
There used to be another thing they used diluted in water to clean the floors.....the name escapes my mind right now...I think it was 'Finis'...not sure...
it used to come in a yellow canister thing...and the cleaning lady used to call it it "phenyl"..it had a horrible smell..which used to kinda linger on for a while...
my ammi used to have them use it once in a while....
then later on it started to come in a scented fragrance form...that one was actually not that bad...
Re: Mops ..
Phenyl aka feeeenaiiiiillll was so widely used for bathrooms and stuff. I heard it's awesome.
Re: Mops ..
ok so vote goes to h20 mop...hmmm
i have tiles in certain areas of my condo, and the h20 mop works great on it! it cleans really well in between the tiles too.
it does leave your floor wet, a mop would do the same, but it only takes about 20 seconds or so for it to dry out. just make sure the kids or hubby aren't walking around while you're cleaning the floor :D
you can use it on vinyl flooring as well. there shouldn't be a problem in that.
what type of flooring do you have MIA?
I have tiles in the kitchen and hardwood in the living/dining rooms and foyer. Hardwood is easy to clean, I just sweep sweep and then mop with murphy's oil.... get a super shiny hardwood floor :D The only problem is my kitchen and breakfast area and yeah, the grout is getting dirtier and dirtier.... I'll try H2O mop now that I have a recommendation, do you have the original one or the new Ultra one?

I've never heard of Murphy's Oil. Does it make the hardwood slippery when it's applied to the floor? I can imagine my son having a blast slipping and sliding all over the floor once I cleaned it :p
I actually have the original H20 mop. And it cleans the grout really well too. Give it a shot! I bought mine on sale for $50, so you might wanna wait until you can get it at a good price. Regular price is around the $90 mark, which is a bit pricey for me :p
Nope, not slippery at all… its supposed to be mixed with water and diluted. As long as you dilute it properly, your floor will not end up slippery… just shiny :D. I also squeeze my mop properly after dipping it in the diluted solution and then mop the floor.
The name is actually Murphy’s oil soap. Its available in all major grocery stores here (in USA) like Giant, Shoppers, Target, etc. You can read all about it here Murphy Oil Soap: The Solution for Gently Cleaning Wood Floors, Furniture, and More
And wow H2O mop for 50 bucks, thats an AWESOME price… lucky lucky girl.
Re: Mops ..
I use the Murphy oil for the hardwood floors too.
It doesnt make them slippery at all,but instead gives a really nice shine.I've never used it on the kitchen tiles though.
:)
Re: Mops ..
Am I the only one who can't even think about spending so much money on a mop? gosh I would rather buy shoes for 50-90 bucks. :-(
chipsy.. now I know the secret.. I thought you get on your knees and scrub your house but no it's the chemicals magic that makes your house lash pash :p
Re: Mops ..
So Murphy;s oil soap is what i used to use but i cant use it with the shark steam mop. Maybe i should dilute and put it in a spray bottle and spray and then use the steam mop?

now that you put it like that, $50 does seem a tad pricey :D but then you have to remember that it's not like a regular mop, a stick with a sponge attached to the bottom. it's almost like an electronic gadget, and needs electricty to run. hence the price.
and that's another great thing about the H20 mop is that it doesn't require any chemicals at all. all you need is water to clean the floors. no floor cleaner required, hence no chemicals that you have to inhale or the lingering smell. although i love the smell of pine :p
