Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!?!?

Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!?!?

I know a kid who is 7-8 yrs old called Nyle. His bro is called Nofil, so that’s a unique name too. Nofil/Naufil.

I liked Arham for a cousin too but my aunt was uncomfortable with her son being called HAM as a nickname lol.

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

Do the not-so-modern pakistani people in your family have trouble with the name? Cant imagine how they would try and pronounce it.

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

I like Naufil…my sister has a naufil in her inlaws…it’s a nice name

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

Zayn/Zain also got a boost some time back because of pop culture popularity.

SGC ..thanks for the explanation.

My cousin’s son is named ‘Adden’, however they all call him ‘Aiden’.

And it is pronounced 'Ah den ’ as mentioned by KC.

I believe it’s Naufal/Nawfal, “al” at the end not “il.” The name was in use during the time of the Prophet SAWS. I don’t like it spelled as Nofil…it looks like the name of some medication, get your prescription Nofil soon. :frowning: It looks/sounds better as Naufal.

Azb Khan

thats cool! I’ve never heard of the Ah-den pronounciation.

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

Everyone in the family knows/speaks English lol and Gabriel or Gabe is super easy to pronounce. Now if we’d gone with hubby’s top choice, Sebastian, then yes that would have been an issue hence why I vetoed it. Sebastian was also too Anglo and the kid is only half gora

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

Sebastian is too Soap-Opera’ish.

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

^ I guess that’s one interpretation lol.
I still think It’s a beautiful name but just not appropriate for our kid.

Rafay and Nafay.

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

Question for you guys… I really like the name Mikhail (Mikaeel, Mikaeil, blah blah not really sure of the correct spelling).. but I sometimes hear people saying that certain names are heavy and one should not name their children such names. What do you guys think about this? I remember when I had my daughter, we wound up choosing the name that was #2](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=2) on our list as someone spiritual told us that the #1](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) name we chose did not suit the child. Anyone have any similar experience to this? And with the name Mikhail and its meaning (Angel of Allah), do you guys see it as an appropriate name?

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

i don’t believe in such things neither my family does. i can’t tell you about other people…as far as names being ‘heavy’ are concerned, i do not believe that it has got anything to do with Islam. it’s twisting facts by certain groups.

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

I don’t like the “h” in Mikhail. I don’t think it’s supposed to there unless you’re Gorbachev. :stuck_out_tongue: Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but when the name is written in Urdu and Arabic, there is no “haa” or “haay” or “khaa/khay” …so no need to add an ‘h’ when you spell it out in English. It’s Mikail. And out of the angels’ names that I’ve heard, I like Mikail best…maybe it’s because Hazrat Mikail (AS) is the one who brings forth rain and I love rain. He is also said to bring people their rizq

I think the name is appropriate since there’s no restriction that I’ve come across in using the name Jibreel. As for the concept of “names being too heavy”…I have heard of it, but don’t believe in it. I see it as superstitious vahams. Unless the name doesn’t have a good meaning or sounds close to a word that doesn’t have a good meaning (Mahnoor/Manure), I don’t think it needs to be changed. Tje latter depends upon location as well.

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

Then how exactly do you pronounce the name if there is no “khaa” in it? I always thought it was pronounced Mi-khaa-ill

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

I like Rafay, but not Nafay. I guess Nafay means benefit…similar to nafaa milna. But Rafay has a charming sound to it.

See, how there’s no “haa” or “khaa” in the urdu/arabic spelling? So, it makes no sense to add that “h” when you neither write nor express the “h” sound in the name. So, it should be mikaail. Unless you want people to pronounce a “khaa” instead of just the letter kaaf.

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

the spelling is:

meem, ye, kaa, alif, hamza, ye, laam

Re: Modern Baby Boy Names: What names do you currently hear parents naming Baby Boys!

My cousin is named Mikyle and it’s pronounced Me-Kyle or Me-Ka-eel. There’s no restrictions in giving children the names of angels. The whole “heavy” name thing can be a personal preference but has no basis in Islam. And yes, there’s no “h” pronounced in the name.
