mixed backgrounds

Re: mixed backgrounds

the question is about ethnicities not nationalities…aqalmand log

Re: mixed backgrounds

my Dad is Pakistani and my Mom is an American gori (german and irish mix)

Indian and Pakistani are a different race now? I think the op asked about different race

Re: mixed backgrounds

Clearly my stupid attempt at humor has derailed this thread…my apologies to the OP

And yes, fikar naat, I do know the difference between ethnicity and nationality :chai:

Re: mixed backgrounds

my mother is pashtoon and dad is urdu speaking : )

Re: mixed backgrounds

:omg:

Re: mixed backgrounds

My kids will be mixed background... I'm british-pakistani-hyderabadi and the missus is canadian-pakistani-punjabi.

I like to say that since I'm hyderabadi and she's punjabi, that means our kids will be hyderojabis!

Oops! In my defense--I know the difference b/w ethnicity and nationality but even ethnically hubby and I are different :)

Re: mixed backgrounds

well i'm part jewish from Abraham side and I think a bit of mixing from Noah and stuff too but i'm not quite sure about what the two races were

Re: mixed backgrounds

My parents are both Pathan, so that makes me Pathan. But Im married to a Hazara, so my kids will be of mixed ethnicity My brother, who is obviously Pathan as well, is married to an Egyptian girl, and they have 3 of the cutest kids I have ever seen!

Lol everyone wants to be a mixed race. Punjabi is now a different race too? And pathan...

Re: mixed backgrounds

Pakistan and Hyderabad were allies just after Pakistan independence Hyderabad even had a squadron fighter jets in Pakistan. India annexed Hyderabad through force and then split the state of Hyderabad to break any resistance. Hence today there is no state of Hyderabad.

Hyderabad was stolen as Nizam Osman had after being refused independence (which was illegal as the option should have been there) wanted to join Pakistan but the British didn't assist/help him and soon afterwards Indian forces invaded.

A little history lesson for you folk.

Sorry, for derailing the thread.

Re: mixed backgrounds

yeah, punjabi vs pathan is not a different ethnicity if both from Pakistan lol.
For those of you who are from mixed backgrounds, I want to ask, do you see it as a blessing? I know I do, having grown up with two cultures being present in my life...made everything more interesting I guess. But I have noticed other people having a certain difficulty as to where to "place" me. Like this happened a few times: a f desi person asked me where are you from and i'll say half canadian and half pakistani, and they'll go "oh, well then you are not really Pakistani". So when a Canadian person asked me Where are you from and I said well Im Canadian but my father is Pakistani, they said "oh ok, so not really Canadian eh?" lol. It doesnt bother me, I just think its funny.

Re: mixed backgrounds

Pathan and Punjabi people are from a different stock. I wouldn't easily place them in the same basket.

Different people but one Pakistan is what you mean.

Re: mixed backgrounds

im half afrikaan and half zionist

Re: mixed backgrounds

mashAllah.

I'll go get my crew, stone you to death. Nothing personal.

Re: mixed backgrounds

Yes, absolutely different people/culture. But, technically same ethnicity.

mixed backgrounds

I myself have nothing interesting as Im Pakistani on both spectrums. But my husband is a quarter Iraqi. His dads half Iraqi, whose mother was Iraqi. But since the generations have gone down, even my husbands grandmother you wouldn't be able tell is Iraqi because she learned and spoke Urdu and forgot her background pretty much after moving to Pakistan (India) in the 40s. She's in her 90s now and looks like any old Muslim lady.

How was it for you growing up? Do you identify yourself with Pakistani or Canadian culture?

Re: mixed backgrounds

punjabi and pathan are different ethnicities sheeeesh :smack:
