Re: MILs got personal hygiene issues
Thanks for the suggestions. I just generally don't like her being here so the bad hygiene just makes it worse...........last time she came she left the bathtub in a right state and I actually said it to her face and she denied it! she was like, no, I cleaned it!! this time I just can't seem to muster up the courage and as the issue is more with the actual toilet its more sensitive then the bath tub.
i wonder if its all in your head? when you dont like someone, every little thing about them is magnified by a million.
she is the mother of your husband, **** or no *, she deserves some respect just like you would your own mother, again, * or no ****.

Re: MILs got personal hygiene issues
question- what would you do if it were your mother? answer that to yourself, and thats the path you should take.
what is your husband's responsibility in this whole thing with the bathroom cleaning stuff? he does not clean it?
my parents visit for months at a time, and I always clean their bathroom myself, but then I am the resident bhangi and clean all the bathrooms in the house anyways. and when we have some big event, the downstairs powder room can be a disaster sometimes, and I clean it. our luck with cleaning ladies has been dodgy so now we just divide and conquer.
and how long does it take to clean a toilet, put some cleaner and scrub...done. or if you get one of those with the flushable cleaning fabrics which has teh cleaner in it, its even simpler, attach, scrub, press button to release the cleaning fabric and flush...I would estimate no more than 20 seconds doing the entire thing.
Re: MILs got personal hygiene issues
Also, one can use Rainx as a pre wash .. Rain X is a hard surface protectant and it makes porcelain type surfaces non-stick. A spray of rain x inside the commode once every 2-3 days will help.

I figured khamosh rehna hi theek hai.
Re: MILs got personal hygiene issues
Just take it for the short period that she is here. No matter how you try to put your point across, it will create some sourness.
And the advice from men here has been so practical. No wonder men have less problems.

Forget that she is your MIL just think that she is a mehmaan (a guest) and she will leave sooner or later. Like I said in my earlier post do sabar ...bardasht karo. Just treat her like a mehmaan , give her respect and ignore her faults. I know it's easier said than done esp when you don't like that person jis ki app bardasht kar rahay ho but it's the best thing you can do for your OWN-SELF.
Re: MILs got personal hygiene issues
^ perhaps tolerance is no more a virtue.
Re: MILs got personal hygiene issues
^ actually it's difficult to show tolerance towards someone who has never shown tolerance towards you and has used his/her power position against you. I don't blame her but like I said it's in her best interest only to do sabar.

Re: MILs got personal hygiene issues
She's not just here for a few days, she's here for a few months. As this thread represents a new low in the life og GS, I have a few other issues I'd like to get off my chest about ppl from Pakistan. Do all the older ladies not wear underwear? Do most ppl from there only brush their teeth once a day? ummm..........Are they just genernally less civilised?? (talking about mass general population not middle classes)
Re: MILs got personal hygiene issues
is your family from the village? or your husband's? would explain a whole lot.
the undewear bit... plz, goray dont know jack bout wearing it either.
bad breath or brushing teeth .... the brits are famous for their bad breath and yellowing teeth.

How distressingly amusing. We need more people like you to control the population crisis. The more we see this mentality, there would be lesser marriages and hence lesser children.

Honestly ajuba I think you are exaggerating now ! We all have people in our families who do not meet up to our standards and vice versa and just because they are family we ignore things that we do not like about them . Just because she is from your husband's family you are hating her so much . I am sure there must be someone in your own relatives too who does not meet your hygiene criteria.
If she does not wear under garments why does it bother you ? it's her personal issue. I can't believe to what extent you are discussing things about her over here. If she does not brush her teeth twice a day ....why does it bother you ? will it cause cavities in your teeth ?
Seriously, I was thinking the same old MIL issue but it seems that here the MIL is the victim. I feel sorry for the lady now. Not for your sake but for her sake I wish she leaves your home soon.
Re: MILs got personal hygiene issues
Ajuba, there is a reason toothpaste and toothbrush are one of the most marketed and sold products in Pakistan. Now why would people come out with all these brands, manufacture toothpaste and brush, make them cheap - only for 10 rupees a brush, if no one is going to use them? That's pathetic. People do wear underwear, people do brush their teeth and yes the poor people too. I personally visited villages in my 2 months and interacted with people. Asked about how their daily life is. It is very normal. Just that they live in a village, are surrounded by cows etc. I say don't bring in the civilised word, they are nice people and know how to look after themselves, but just because they are not in some big city or abroad, means they are not civilised. The word has different meaning to you and to me.
