Re: Men in dupattas
I've seen it on mehndis. A few weddings maybe. But we call them 'patke' rather than dupattas I remember on my eldest sister's wedding, the baraat was meant to come in matching scarves, and one of the uncles got p'eed off at the idea and said the men shouldn't be wearing them and cut all the scarves up into small pieces. The baraat came in wave the pieces around in one hand cos it was too small to wrap around their necks :D
LOL! That's funny :D
We call them do-shaalas. And the only time I like them is on special occasions like mehendis and the like. A lot of guys wear it with their sherwaanis on their wedding days, you should see kis kis aada se pehentey hai.

Re: Men in dupattas
it's called angarkhaa/angauchhaa...
...in rural India, it's a common article of clothing and that's NOT a statement of fashion but it's rather for a necessity/need. men use it to wipe sweat from their faces and neckline in order to keep themselves dry during HOT swealtry summer days...this also protects face and eyes in 50 degrees heat if wrapped around the head...in winter it protects from cold air blowing into their face...
...so, it's an article of clothing worn by rural Indian/Pakistani men to protect them from the elements and to serve double as towel. :)
Re: Men in dupattas
^^ But trust me, no one's wiping their sweat with it these days!
Re: Men in dupattas
I thought that was an unwrapped pug ... Not a dupatta !

pathan people usually wrap red piece of cloth around neck. they used it like napkin, jai namaz, dastar khuwan and also use it as covering on face while sleeping.
Re: Men in dupattas
i didn’t say that these men use it for wiping sweat…i told you that those people used angarkhaa/angaochhaa for a purpose as mentioned in the other post. modern day usage of these angarkhas has nothing to do with the original usage. aajkal bhale ise fashion ke taur pe pahnaa jaataa ho.
qurb-e-qiyaamat kii nishaaniyoN meN se ek nishaanii yeh bhii hai k mard aurtoN jaise aur aurteN mardoN jaise libaas pahneNgii aur us jaisaa dikhne meN bhii lageNge…so, may be qayaamat is qareeb ![]()

Gay is what Abhishekh Bachan looked like on his wedding… he had mehendi on his hands, jewellery here there everywhere, sparkly clothes n all! THAT is what men aren’t supposed to do!

Re: Men in dupattas
the only reason a man should carry such a thing is if it is his lungi that's come off and he's too busy fixing the world to put it back on.
