Please for the love of God don’t pick that Green head icon…

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

I dont know whether I should chastise you for being so blatantly racist, or just assume that you are not the brightest bulb int the box. You obviously practice “pretentious diction,” a technique that makes your posts seem esoteric, for e.g., over use of buzzwords like “socio -economic”. Very Straussian.

You probably missed school that day when they discussed “race relations.” Go read Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye” and try to knock some sense into your empty brainwashed cranium.

What the hell are you babblin’ about? Here is some info:
Cornrows is an african hairstyle, just like dreadlocks are Rastafarian, and
Mohawk - mohicans,
side-locks - jewish Orthodox,
Wareshinobu - Geisha (japanese),
Beehive - big hair style in the 1960s, and,
Really, really really really long uncut hair - Sikhs:D

Now, tell me again what do cornrows have anything do with “ghetto mentality?” Last I heard, David Beckham has been sporting that style and lookin’ GQ.

PCG, I know you are not a racist; rather you,are just ill-informed. I grew up in brooklyn with blacks, hispanics and jewish kids. We all listened to Dr. Dre and Snoop DOGG. We dressed like them, talked like them, and acted like little thugs like them. Some of us did end up going to Ivy League schools.

The “ghetto mentality” that keeps black people down is not corn rows or 50 cents.
It’s the inability to differentiate between reality and fantasy world. They have bought into the concept of a black man “selling out,” or being an “uppity nigger,” or being “white-washed,” when he tries to get an education and move up the socio-economic ladder, if i may use one your buzzwords.
NBN is at LSE. He doesn’t have this mentality.
ciao.

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

Okay does not liking cornrows or the ghetto/thug style make u racist or sumthin??? I grew up in the Bronx, surrounded by blacks and hispanics but I never liked the music, never liked the style so yeah everyone made fun of me or thot i was a freakin weirdo. It’s one thing to listen to rap/hip hop, its anutha to wanna emulate the lifestyle, of being a hoe, pimp, nigger, thug etc…

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

:rotfl:

Totally, not! If you’re emulating these ghetto hairstyles, then you are NOT independent and confident. You are adopting the common hairstyle of the people you are exposed to in pop culture and around you to fit in with them. Put these same wannabe-thug boys in the company of educated African Americans that are well-groomed, and you’ll see they wont be able to fit in either.

In Islam, you have to practice good hygeine. You have to look presentable. That’s your culure. Not walking around with your pant hanging down half past your arse, talking about your “niggers” and “bitches” (they are BOTH BAD and DISGUSTING words), and doing immature things to get attention because you’re insecure…like talking in ebonics or pimping your ghetto ride.

Sorry guys, if you are immitating something you are not. You are NOT cool.

And its not African culture. Its Afrian American culture that has come about because of dismal economic opportuniites that African Americans had after being freed from slavery. Ebonics comes from not being able to speak proper English, because the old slaves weren’t taught and schooled in proper English. Corn-rows, and the such are all demonstrations of trying to build a different identity, an ALTERNATIVE OPPOSING identity to mainstream culture, since these unfortunate African Americans were blocked from being part of the mainstream culture (segregation laws, etc). What you have now is a class of African Americans that is still stuck in the lower economic end, with a few that have escaped it and entered into mainstream culture.

Those who have entered into mainstream culture (and I’m NOT talking about musicicans, because their culture will always be alternative - white guys don’t walk into work with long unwashed hair and head-banging clothing after all, although what happens in their home is their business), have given up that sort of “ghetto” culture.

People tend not to walk into their respectable bank job with hair that is in corn-rows.

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

NBN is not "emulating" that "lifestyle" and neither is David Beckham.
Then why are some of us dragging "ghetto mentality" and "cornrows" in this thread and dismissing NBN's comments as worthless simply becuse he has cornrows?

No, it doesn't make you a racist if you dont like the music, clothing. But it does make you one when you judge someone based on his likings.
kind of the way you and PCG judged NBN in this thread. Gotta run for jumuah.

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

Having a certainhairstyle or dressing sense doesn’t always mean that you’re following the lifestyle. Some things are strictly for aesthetic purposes and nothing deeper thant hat. ANd anyway I said it before and imma say it again, I was only joking about his opinions bein worthless..

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

Then why are some of us dragging "ghetto mentality" and "cornrows" in this thread and dismissing NBN's comments as worthless simply becuse he has cornrows?

Actually, I thought his opinions were worthless before I knew he had cornrows...

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

PCG i feel like killing all the men in this world n especially taking out their eye balls.

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

I agree with Dope…“ghetto hairstyles”…there’s no such thing, if ur referring to cornrows, they are an African hairstyle, not a “ghetto” one.

“common hairstyle”…wot’s common? wot’s common to u is not to some1 else…every1 has their own standards and tastes, u just think urs are the best…

Some of these ppl u call “wannabe-thug boys” are actually African Americans too…and y wudn’t they fit it? maybe it’s ur so-called “well-groomed, ivy league boys” who don’t fit in…

Yes in Islam u do have to practice good hygiene…so hairstyles like cornrows, etc. are unhygienic now??? Correct me if i’m wrong, but doesn’t Islam also discourage hatred? Do u even read wot u write? It’s just a hairstyle for God’s sake, u don’t have to analyse it with ur unknowledgable, judgemental mindset!!
Then u go on to say “that’s ur culture” Islam is a religion not a culture, 2 different things…

And not every one with these hairstyles uses bad words, u are talking about SOME that perhaps u have come across…but not ALL are like this…shows ur not openminded at all…

It's a shame u feel this way, try loving ppl instead of hating them so much... that's all i have to say...

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

Men can always look ...its simple " I am on a diet, I can look but I cannot eat"

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

Damn a lot has been said in my absence...

Dope and KashmiriRainDrops...thanks for trying to explain certain things to PCG...but alas it is no good...she wont admit her ignorance...

Simply PCG...I want you to answer a few things...

You say im trying to be something im not becuase i have cornrows...my argument is...i like it...doesnt make me black or a black wannabe anymore than it makes you a white girl for wearing a blouse or jeans...does that make sense?...

We adopt various things from various cultures...doesnt mean we are wannabes...bloody hell...i like Snoop Dogg, Limp Bizkit and im lovin the Yuva soundtrack right now...so does that mean i am a wannabe black, white and asian all at the same time...NO...there is no harm in appreciating things from other cultures...but like iv said...only certain cultures are acceptable to you...

So PCG...What are you?...you say everyone is trying to be someone they arent but what about you... you have your own identity i suppose...what is your identity based on?...who are your influences?...becuase obviously to be a civilised person...one must adopt everything that you adopt and everything that you see as civilised lol...

why are your blouses civilised...and baggy jeans not...if anything my jeans are preferable becuase i cover my aura...bring up Islam and you look silly...i cover my aura you dont...whose following their culture now?...

Oh and you insult black people for not following mainstream culture...therefore the admission that in your eyes mainstream culture is correct...whose trying to blend in now heh?...

And as for your comment about black people not going to work with cornrows...thats a shame becuase they feel they have to give something they like to appease narrow minded people like yourself...now whose not being themselves?...sounds like those Ivy School boys...and for your info...i have a summer office job...i live up to the code...just like you wear jeans casually...black boys wear baggies casually...dont tell me you wear a suit outside work now?...

Look...we all like things from other cultures...just admit you are racist and you think everything from black culture is backward and uncivilised...

Im a normal guy and im a hybrid of various cultures...what i like i like...i dont care who it came from...

With you your likes and dislikes are based on ignorance and prejudice and thats the problem that people are pointing out to you...

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

Yep, she’s ignorant all right…i guess let her be…i don’t think there’s much else i can say before i keep repeating myself…if she keeps picking on u for no reason and u tried to explain things to her from another “real” perspective, then there’s nothing else u can do…u’ve made some excellent points…just ignore the ignorant!

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

My dress is simple and not attention-seeking. :)

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

You havent addressed any of the points...

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

you think everything from black culture is backward and uncivilised...

Actually no. If you knew one ounce of what black culture really is, you'd see its a hell of a lot more than pulling up those pants that are falling off your behind.

Where I used to live, Haitian culture is a big thing over there. Now those are Black people with some real CLASS. Real African culture is also very rich, and from what I understand of an old African American roommate I used to have, Africans from Africa do not appreciate the "ghetto culture" either. In fact, you should talk to those African Americans who have a FASHION PREFERENCE of wearing what you would like to call "whites" clothing, and see how discriminated THEY feel because they're simply wearing what they want.

:)

As for the rest of your questions...I just don't see them thru all that horrific grammar.

Re: Men and their wandering eyes

KashmiriRainDrops...thanks again...but ignorings too easy...i want admission of ignorance...

PCG...everyone else seems to be able to see through my poor grammar...thats a weak reply on your part...

Now...

You criticise me because i borrow from a certain culture...cornrows are from black culture...or what you deem 'ghetto' culture...now putting your ignorant negative connonations aside...

  1. DO YOU BORROW FROM ANY CULTURE OTHER THAN PAKISTANI CULTURE?... and if you do...
  2. HOW DOES THAT NOT MAKE YOU A WANNABE OF THAT CULTURE?...

I cover my aura...i am a lot more civilised in my dress than you...
3. YOU DIDNT LEARN FROM ISLAM NOT TO COVER YOUR AURA SO WHO DID YOU EARN IT FROM?...

You say you wear jeans...jeans come from white people not from pakistan gal but khayre...

4.WHAT MAKES BAGGY JEANS MORE UNACCEPTABLE THAN THE NON BAGGY JEANS OTHER PEOPLE WEAR?

5.WHAT IS YOUR IDENTITY BASED ON?...

6.WHAT IS YOUR CULTURE?...

7.AND WHO DID YOU LEARN IT FROM?...

and like i said you said cornrows and such do not fit in with mainstream culture...

7.SO ARE YOU A 'FOLLOWER' OF MAINSTREAM CULTURE?...

here i was thinking you were all individual lol...

now your sympathy for blacks who wear whites clothing is fair enough...i have no problem with it...Carlton Banks can be Carlton Banks...i only have a problem when Will tries to be Carlton to suit his surroundings and appease people like yourself...People should be who THEY want to be...NOT what YOU think they should be...

Blacks who wear baggies are just the same as those blacks who wear chinos if they are doing it becuase that is what they want to do...

MY ARGUMENT TO YOU....
9.WHY DO YOU THINK THAT ONLY CERTAIN THINGS ARE ACCEPTABLE AND OTHERS ARENT?...

  1. OH...OK ARE CORNROWS...DREADS...HIP HOP MUSIC...ALL UNCIVILISED THINGS...AND ARE THOSE THAT ADOPT THESE THINGS ALL UNCIVILISED PEOPLE?...

ok since you werent able to conveniently deduce what was a question and what wasnt...i have made the questions capital and surprisingly enough added a question mark at the end to indicate that a question is being raised...

So no excuses now....
