If you watch Waheed Murad's interview from Anwar Maqsood's silver jubilee on youtube it is quite apparent. Not sure if it was heroine, but definitely substance abuse of some sort.

Filmstar Shabnam was molested or raped by a group of young boys who broke into her house sometime in the 80s. Sad as the incident was imagine how much worse it could've been had Geo been around.

I've read about this in Orya Maqbool Jan's book 'Harf e Raaz'.

Orya Maqbool Jan ![]()
anyways I read about it in some book by Kishwar Naheed. The name eludes me.
Re: Memory Lane ( Controversies in Pakistan Show-Biz)
lols. I just started Kishwar Naheed’s ‘Ruswaiyan Shanasaiyan’ that has a chapter on Madam Noorjehan. Lets see if that book has some information on that matter or not.
Re: Memory Lane ( Controversies in Pakistan Show-Biz)
What the heck ?
I know about burglary at her house.
Never heard this before.
Please don’t throw around ‘rape’ so randomly.
And she continued working like nothing happened, after that ? Doesn’t make any sense. ![]()
Re: Memory Lane ( Controversies in Pakistan Show-Biz)
It happened in 1980s and after that she migrated to Bengla-desh. An actress who remained in Pakistan, even after Bengla-Desh, leaving Pakistan after 10-15 years says that daal main kuch kaala tha… If you google, you will find that some big name was involved behind the incident and people still have some fear to name the culprit ![]()
Re: Memory Lane ( Controversies in Pakistan Show-Biz)
No. She was in Pakistan till the 90s. She only left when the film 'industry' died.
And she had all her family in BD.
What did the big name want out of this ?
Re: Memory Lane ( Controversies in Pakistan Show-Biz)
We have case of actress shabnam and here boys of high class were freed and less influential boys were hanged by fulfilling all legal formality even in presence of sharia law.
Veena hayat a strongest character of Pakistan couldn’t charge Marwat in same manner as whole case was changed by using double meaning of man made laws.

Yes that's the name. There's no separate chapter on the incident per se but some mention in passing. Always enjoy Kishwar Apa's writings. Her "Burri aurat ke khatoot nazayda beti ke naam" is one of the most phenomenal books of recent times. It deserves all the recognition in the world.
As for the Shabnam case, the reason i used the word molest/rape is because I am not sure of the exact nature of the trangression. The case was well documented by the newspapers of the day. Just because something's not on google doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I remember this case because a classmate of mine was from the same area in Bhawalpur as the culprits. The culprits were from some big feudal families in Bhawalpur and were students at Govt. College Lahore. According to my friend, although the media reported the case as robbery only there was rape also. The culprits were caught, convicted and sentenced to hang.
Later, the media reported that the families of the victims met Shabnam and asked for forgiveness and Shabnam publicly forgave them. According to my friend, what really happened was that she was offered compensation by the families. Eventually, the culprits were quietly freed without any reports in the media. My friend was present at their 'homecoming' party where they were garlanded amid much celebrations.

Yes I read it in a chapter related to Pakistan film Industry people to who Kishwar Naheed interacted. There is few lines saying ' Zia ke daur main Shabnam ke sath boht ziadti hui.. ye to Robin jaisa shohar tha jis ne hosle se sab saha... rae aama ko dekh ke kuch logon ko saza hui (latkaya gaya) lekin bade logon ko choR dia gaya'. Now this is not reflecting nature of incident except for reference to Robin.
