so how does one go about doing that nowadays when you’re a working professional and don’t really have that many opportunities to meet people like you did when you were in school. Any tried and tested ideas ?

Actually believe it or not…Lusi is right. I have met quite a few working professionals (some in my law school as well) who have met and married a person whom they met online…desi’s AND non-desi’s alike.
More and more people just dont have time to socialize and meet people anymore. I read an article about it…wish I could find it and post it here.

Go to more events that are targeted toward young professionals, people out of college who are beginning to figure out what they want to do with their lives and how/where/when they want to settle down. In particular, a lot of nonprofits do fundraising socials. Take advantage!

Find someone at your job, go to parties and events, word of mouth, mom, aunties, sisters. There's plenty of ways to get hooked up.

At da club homey. Dats where all da womenz be at. Go to da DEZI clubs, day full of girls lookin. But dont be going after dem womenz looking for suga daddyz.

Join a muslim charity, volunteer and start participating in islamic societies etc, you can meet so many people....
and decent proffessionals....i dont know about america but islamic relief and muslim aid are pretty massive over here and they have so many events every week...fun events too!

Well you can meet online but to have a slice of the cake .. I mean for taking such acquaintance to further stages , ideally you both should be living in same area or atleast in same country ..
Long distance relationship.. they do suck big time … Go phut before they even start …

I think generally the best way is through friends, people being in the same circle as you.

i agree Sahar…you are absolutely right. However, at ISNA i dont think those people are looking to get married 
social gatherings are the best place to meet people. (ie weddings, MSA events@ uni).
ARSHAD…yea meeting through friends is ideal.
