Re: Med School
Also, why is anesthisology so interesting? One small miscalculation and you kill someone. In my hometown in Illinois, we get a new one every few years because they mess up and lose their privledges!!
Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore.
Well ansthesiology interests me alot. And not only that,it has got a good scope both here in pakistan and abroad. Otherwise, there aren't many jobs available for young graduates. :(
Re: Med School
well IMGs have to score more to get residencies. Thats what I've heard.
Re: Med School

Re: Med School
Actually, think of all the doctors you’ve ever gone to. Do you know where they went to medical school (unless you knew them personally). Also think about this, most doctors, many good ones, are in their 60’s now. Imagine what kind of med school they attended. Back then no one knew anything about dna and technology was non existant then. Actually the ENTIRE medical world has changed since then, except for major parts of the anatomy. They are still good doctors though, amazing right? And people who went to medical school because their parents wanted them too, well I find it hard to believe anyone who doesnt have any interest in becoming a doctor would go through that hell just cuz their parents wanted them too, deep inside they have SOME interest or they possibly couldnt complete it. So if someone has made it through medical school and got a degree, they are definetly some what competent.
So brings me to my point. Medical school is surprisingly irrelevant in how a person becomes a doctor. They learn almost everything they will use in life during their residency, which most often is taught to them in an American Hospital by an experienced staff of doctors. Medical school is just a broad introduction to medicine, the human body, disease and treatments. It is only through experience in the real world and with other doctors does one truely become a good doctor. Which explains why these 60 year olds who probably remember very little of medical school are still so good at what they do today.
So a medical degree from china, carribean, pakistan, india, whatever. If they passed their usmle, and got a good residency from a reputable hospital (NOT easy to do) you can feel better.

Re: Med School
hey thanx!. I’ll let him know.. my aunt mentioned another uni/college call GI khan?? is that a good one>
Re: Med School
GIK ( Gulam Ishaq Khan university ) is for engineering. The govt. medical colleges are the best in medicine. King Edwards is the best in Punjab followed by Allama Iqbal Med col, then Fatima Jinnah medical college. Then there is a new medical college called SIMS and these are followed by private medical colleges. LMDC is the best in pvt colleges. But I'd suggest to work as hard as he can for MCAT. You get admission in these colleges according to your MCAT score.
Re: Med School
as opposed to Rawalpindi Municipility College ??
Re: Med School
cool thanx!
Re: Med School
yes, that’s what my advisor told me too, but firstly, my parents don’t want me to go to DO school, yep, very typical b/c they have an idea of DO as Pakistani Haddi-joor-sarak-walay dakter, and nothing can change that ![]()
Secondly, if I go to some other country, DO is not a recognized degree/profession there. This is basically a bigger reason for me. sigh
By the way, are you in medicine as well..?
Re: Med School
do you guys have the same MCAT as we do here in states..?
Re: Med School
^^ I don't know about the MCAT of states
but here,we're examined in Biology, Chemistry, Physics adn English. It comprises of MCQs. Later teh final score and merit is based upon the aggregate of MCAT score and FSc marks ( or the equivalent of it).
