And for that audience, Urdu subtitles were displayed during those dialoques.
and that exactly is the irony...the majority gets the subtitles!

I agree with you.
Re: mata e jaan
I love the way she accepted his offer for coffee.
"jab coffee ka itna hee zikar aa raha hai hamari conversations main tou pee lee laitay hain". Priceless. :)
Love this drama.
Re: mata e jaan
today, I got opportunity and watched both episodes. I like it. :)
Re: mata e jaan
Agree, it just all seems so fake. At least Kathy speaks English normally, Haniya doesnt sound at all believable as a Pakistani raised in America, why couldnt they at least hire someone whose English was believable. Yamina’s English is much better, but sometimes she sounds more British than American. But I can understand Haniya speaking Urdu all the time, since in the beginning they showed that her culture and roots are very important to her, so it makes sense for her to be attached to her language. But both Yamina and Adam they showed from the start that they care more about being American than Pakistani, so why are they both always speaking Urdu with each other at home? And when he was telling her he loves her, he called her Mrs Yamina Adam --which makes sense if they are in Pakistan, but who is ever called by their husband’s first name in the States. Last name would have made sense, first name only if he was really cultural and Pakistani --which apparently he isnt supposed to be? And it didnt make sense how Ibad fixed Haniya’s car! Where did they get the keys from? And when you take your car to the mechanic, dont you have to show your registration or something, how did the mechanic know he didnt just steal someone’s car off the street? Just too many holes. I wish they would all just move back to Pakistan so it can at least be believable. Or they should just always speak Urdu, instead of switching back and forth constantly, so that way at least they can pretend that they are actually speaking English but just for the sake of the drama it sounds like Urdu ![]()

LOL! I wondered the same thing. Ibad is a newbie in the States attending college, and all of a sudden he knows where to get her car fixed? What about when Haniya said to her daadi : "....kisi 'car care center' say call thi" . Now who says that here in the US?
It would've been more believable if Ibad saw her stranded, opened the hood right then and there, and fixed the car on the spot. Then Haniya would've probably had dinner with him, instead of coffee.

lol
that sure makes more sense. :D
Re: mata e jaan
Guys do you realise its a pakistani drama afterall and the national language is urdu...ideally to make it more realistic the dramas should be shot in Pakistan but as someone already mentioned the target audience is urdu speaking population... The language should still be urdu regardless of the location
Re: mata e jaan
Superdesi, you do realise that quite a few sentences start like this when discussing Farhat Ishtiaq’s stories! ![]()
Still, I do think Mata e Jaan is the only decent enough drama on at the moment…
Re: mata e jaan
Indeed!

I don't have any issue with girl who plays Haniyas friend. Her English sounds pretty accurate for someone who grew up here. Sarwat Gilanis English is not bad esp. when you compare it some other stars. I was appalled by the way Noor Hassan spoke. Sarwat's English is way better. I am not bothered by these things. The drama has some substance compared to the other rubbish on air. I don't know what Farhat Ishtiaq's background is. I dont if she has been to America or not. One thing is for sure, Mehreen Jabbar is a New Yorker. In fact I believe she becAme an American citizen recently. Momina Duraid mentioned that Umera Ahmed specifically recommended Farhat Istiaq as a writer ESP. For the romantic genre. One thing is for sure I would prefer her work over Seema ghazal and a lot of the other writers. Farhat has a knack for creating likable lead characters. Also seems like she has lucked out with good directors as well.
Re: mata e jaan
i think haniya friend is good seems natural
Add Title
Re: mata e jaan
There are some obvious and glaring issues including the car repair one but I am simply looking past those hiccups coz i understand that the writer is not familiar with these things.
Regarding the authenticity of accents, THANK GOD Sarwat is not faking an american accent. That would have been fake and just plain annoying (remember Ayesha khan from KPKPBT or Iman Ali from Khuda ke Liye YUK YUK YUK). If they'd gotten an American born chick, 90% of the viewers would have wanted to shoot her because her Urdu enunciation would have been really off just like Kathy( Gosh Kathy's urdu enunciation is so OFF!! she can't even say "hain" correctly ,which is very authentic). If the actress playing kathy had played Haniya, ppl would've set the Hum Tv building on fire!
Re: mata e jaan
^LOL true there would have been mass riots by the novel lovers!
Re: mata e jaan
this was the song playing in the background of episode 3. love it:

Re: mata e jaan
:k: I like the drama but it has so many glitches…as if instead of showing the real American values (justice system, geographical assessment, language accents, social and moral standards) they are showing Urban Pakistan dressing and speaking english.
i agree with that mechanic bit…that is quite strange. cuz i dont know about states, but in Canada we have towing membership with CAA. u cant just take the car to mechanic.
and its not Pakistan where you dont need legal owners to make decision about every. i dont get it how adam sold their property without any signatures or anything legal.
my third concern was how come her dadi had a such a big swimming pool as she was saying she lives in Manhattan? in fact even showing this swimming-pool is a making a mockery of New York city…its better to move this drama setting to Hampton.
Re: mata e jaan
Ibaad is wearing a suit+tie for coffee???? lol had ho gayee..
Re: mata e jaan
The girl who plays Haniya's friend Kathy's role is actually born and raised in the US and I know her. I had no idea she was interested in acting but I did know that she was helping direct the play as an assistant. I guess they liked her and casted her too.
In my opinion she is doing a great job in her first role and is very natural. Her accent is real because she was born and raised in the US but some times her one liners can be a bit annoying :P Shes a natural tho and playing the role of a college student in the US quite well!
