Brilliant episode today! I haven't read the novel but did not find it confusing at all. I think our viewers expect a full dramatic entry into a flashback complete with a person staring up in the heavens, dramatic background music and the scene slowly fading into the flashback (thank you baber javed :s ) and hence the confusion :p.
I think they could have put in a note stating the story went back one year because a lot of people were confused by the editing of the scenes.
^Haha! I feel the same way..if they'd chosen a different lead pair it would've be even better! I feel like their on-screen chemistry was kind of fake..even their honeymoon scenes were just awkward and not romantic at ALL. Can you guys imagine if Fahad and Mahira were in Abi's and Haniya's place. haiye.
Episode 15 was amazing and if it wasn't for you guys pointing out the fact that episode 14+15 were comprised of flashbacks I would've been sooooo lost lol..I'm so looking forward to next week's episode. So are Adeel and Haniya going to get together? I don't know if you guys remember but in the beginning when Adeel bumps into Haniya not knowing she is seeing Abi, he gives off the vibe that he may be interested in her. He shows it in a very subtle way!
Brilliant acting by hania & the mum. Kinda feel bad for sara committed suicide & abhi died in a car crash.
The cut on yaminas face was an indication that it's a flash back .Flashbacks like these work best in movies and not episodes where its cut p. Or they should've done the breaking up of episodes a bit better so the flow was smooth.
But great acting nonetheless! Thank God Abhi is dead he had no on-screen chemistry, onto better things & ppl who can act.
Watched the episode again. gosh it's done so beautifully!the acting was superb and the little details made this episode truly beautiful and heart wrenching. The way Abi's life flashes before his eyes as he is dying; the way he smiles in peace when he sees the phone ringing from "home" and realizes that his parents have forgiven him; uzair thinking back to Abi's childhood;the scene in the morgue when Abi's face is revealed; Abi's body covered with a sheet embriodred with the Kalima, and his mother thinking back to the days when she taught him to walk as she sits next to his body.
and the performances were phenomenal! Sarwat and Hina were amazing. That first scene when haniya is on the phone with ibad when the accident happens was done beautifully by sarwat. Her reaction and expressions were very natural. The panic at realizing that ibad is hurt and the need to hear that he's doing okay, her growing pain at realizing that he isn't okay when he won't pick up the phone and then the disbelief that he's actually dead- all beautifully captured..
not sure how i feel about the story line itself of killing abi the day he gets rejected by both his uncle and dad. Farhat couldn't have thought of a more painful scenario than this??? a parent living with the guilt of humiliating and rejecting his son who then immediately dies ALL ALONE :s tauba hai! kuch zaida hee hud ho gaee!
Read this comment on the Mata-e-jaan fb page and couldn't have said it better myself:
The latest episode of Mata e Jaan captured the darkest aspects of human life of the pain of losing a loved one in a remarkably poignant manner- one of the most effective portrayals on television I must say. According to Weber 'Bureaucracy puts us in an iron cage, which limits individual human freedom and potential ' I think love stories and marital issues have become that iron cage for Pakistani directors these days. However hats off to you for working within those inevitable limits and yet invigorating scripts with freshness and finesse. Thank you for always reinventing your work with new techniques and most importantly as seen in today's episode for very subtely executing scenes which can easily fall victim to unecessary melodrama. It is that subtelty and realism which made the latest episode so absorbing and heart-wrenching.
This episode finally show cased MJj’s talent as a director. I really liked the way she handled the story and filled in the gaps. I don’t think it was confusing but again I have read the novel and knew what was happining.
Most of all, I love how it is all wrapped up in 15 or so episodes.
After Ibad dies, his parents obviously regret everything that happened and they arent angry at him anymore....so knowing that he did get married in NY, wouldnt they have tried to find his wife? As far as they know, maybe she doesnt even know that he is dead, since he died in Pakistan? That doesnt make sense to me. I think they would have asked Adeel to help them contact his wife..Haniya wouldnt have been able to go to PK later on and enter their lives with them not even knowing her name!

I agree! Obviously, if you kill the innocent sweet guy, or diagnose him with Cancer or something, you're going to make people cry but i'd love to see someone stir as much emotion WITHOUT killing someone. Maybe the father forcing Hania and Abi to get divorced might've have added an interesting flair and been sad at the same time.

What surprises me is that Hajra hasn't put the pieces together yet. She knew her son's wife's nickname was "Hani" and she came from NY and they went to the same SCHOOL....and this girl is strangely obsessed with you..hello...
^Lol! I thought that too at first, but then I feel that he'll be the only one who'll understand her feelings, respect and tolerate her references to him and just understand her overall. A random stranger won't be able to understand her as well. Adeel did say that the last time he spoke to Abi, Abi told him to take care of Haniya, so I think now's his oppturtunity lol...besides, Adeel's a cutie ;)
