Flash backs. They are showing the events that took place before Haniya came to Pakistan. How Abbi died, how Haniya reacted, how his parents reacted and how eventually she came to Pakistan.

I am really confused...
So wait, how did the scenes go from Javaid Sheikh catching her in Abi's shirt to all off a sudden a flashback of the conversation between Haniya and Abi in the car? So did Haniya go to Pakistan after Abi had died and had been in denial the entire time? As in, Abi had been dead when she was bonding w/ his parents?
I AM CONFUSED!

M! you're confusing me too lol. After that awkward moment with her FIL, she went back to NY. Abi was in Pakistan when she was in NY, he died, she found out he died while being in NY. The flashbacks while sniffing his shirt etc. were just old random memories, she was missing him.

Err,I think after her FIL saw her in Aabi's room,they have not shown anything implying the current situation.The entire episode was a flashback from the time Aabi died and how she coped with his death.Maybe it will happen like this that when she recovers from the shock she decided to go to Pakistan.
I don;t know how and why she will end up in Pakistan,but this was one depressing episode...:(

No she came to Pakistan to fulfill her promise with Abbi. She is not in denial just in love with him even after his death. She needs to bond with his parents because thats what he wanted and she wanted them to realize that their son did choose a good girl for himself. Its like her mission after accepting Abbi death. They showed her accepting the reality when she was talking to Adeel about her last moments with Abbi.
I think I have read the novel thats why I am able to comprehend whats going on but i can see why others who haven’t read it may be confused after today’s episode.

No she came to Pakistan to bond with Abbi parents after Abbi’s death.
They just chose a weird moment to recap the whole thing of his death and and what happened after.

^Yes by denial I meant that she is ignoring the fact that he isn't alive. And yes, it is very confusing for those that haven't read the books. It was very awkward the way they shot it but a depressing episode indeed. My mom and I cried, ahem.

Brilliant episode today! I haven't read the novel but did not find it confusing at all. I think our viewers expect a full dramatic entry into a flashback complete with a person staring up in the heavens, dramatic background music and the scene slowly fading into the flashback (thank you baber javed :s ) and hence the confusion :p.
Basically we all knew that some time had passed between Abi getting rejected by his dad and haniya arriving in pakistan ( Mehreen had given several clues: Haniya talking about ibad in the past-tense to her mamoo, Adam serving his jail sentence and getting out, yamina meeting her lawyer after what seemed to be a long time). This episode simply explained what had transpired. Mehreen CHAA gaee! all the little details in today's episode, the background music, everything was perfect. Sarwat and Hina both did an outstanding job.

I think yesterday's episode was too heart-wrenching to watch...I think Hina Bayat is really the stand out performance in this ensemble (Sorry, but Sarwat is not cutting it for me). Her portrayal of a mother's love, only to be followed by her expression for the sad loss of her child really had me shedding a few tears.

^Indeed, her scenes were the ones that got to me and my mom. We both were sniffling at that funeral scene. :(

OK. We ran out of kleenex tissues last night. Begum used last 2 boxes available at home during yesterday’s episode!
So I just started watching this show today. I’m only on episode 3…
