It is Haram for following simple reasons-
1-It makes one sexual power weaker, this is against islam to use any method that make you unable to have children-
2-It is unethical-
3-It has no positive effects.

- It has nothing to do with one’s morals or ethics.
- It does indeed have positive effects for those who cannot for whatever reason have sex.

Once i watched Dr.Israr's Lecture on TV and he said that 'Hand sex' has no gonaah because its bad effect is to one's own self. He also quoted some ahadees too.

hmm.. i read fatawa by the late saudi cleric Sheikh Abdullah bin baaz and according to him it is not Haraam but its NOT recommended either..

Ethics are based on morals and society’s view. So if you live where the prevailing opinion is that it is unethical, then that could be right. But there are a lot of unelightened pov that prevail in many societies.
