Masturbation (merged)

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

This is most likely the Shafi view, as the main scholar at this place follow Shafi mathab.

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

Following is most likely the Hanafi view:

Source: is masturbation major sin or the minor sin?

Here’s another view:

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

^ I am sorry Sadiayh but there is no refrence to masturbation in the above quoted ayath...Its the interpertation/view of one person...

Also Mr.Crescent, I think its very irresponsible to post and convey something with strong words as Haram without any solid backing/refrence......this is the same thing as martyrs will get 72 virgins...its not in quran but people will go to any length to convey it as the truth...we as muslims must do our homewrok and research the issues before presenting them to the rest of the world.

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

You’re correct. There is a difference of opinion over it. I posted as many different views as I could get hold of only for the sake of general knowledge. There are many who follow such views, so I thought it could be of use to them.

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

Sadiyah all the views you posted were that masturbation is haraam.

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

PCG, check out post #23; it is sort of justifying it in case of a dire need.

Btw.. please feel free to post other views that you may have come across.

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

I heard that its Makru.. not haraam.. It would be very unrealistic if it is.

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

In light of the strongest Dalils presented, the Shanafi Madhab declares masturbation as Haram...

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

is there any ayah or hadith says that masturbation is allowed in any circumstances?..all i can conclude by sadiyah's posts is that masturbation is forbidden (haraam)

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

How can it be "haraam"? There is no punishment for it, and there is no explicit verse that asks you to keep away from it. There is no described punishment for it in hell either.

All that Sadiyah has posted is saying that at the most, it might be makruh. The Quranic verse tells you with what other people you are allowed to have intercourse with. Intercourse requires two people (or more). It gives the boundaries that you can't cross in intercourse. It has nothing to do with stimulating yourself - that's not intercourse.

The idea that masturbation is haraam actually comes from the Judeo-Christian faiths. Especially Christians - they're very much against it. So, we have this bias in our heads that masturbation must be evil.

In fact, you have a hadith that says you must do ablution after stimulating yourself. That tells me, that masturbation is okay. Otherwise where are the hadith that say that the Prophet said you can't do it AT ALL?

If anything, the evidence points to it being Makruh, but allowable if nothing else is working for you.

Could you please post the hadith again. I may have overlooked it.

I agree. At least that's what I think the first fatwa is suggesting.

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

i meant "do it" lol...i said "have it" in a sense of having sex..

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

Sadiyah:

This hadith:

Touching the sexual organ without any "barrier" between the hand and the organ: Busrah bint Safwan narrated that the Prophet, upon whom be peace, said, "Whoever touches his sexual organ cannot pray until he performs ablution."

Posted in the original poster. My commentary on it followed soon after.

Re: Masturbation: Why its haraam?

The above hadith, even if true, is vague since it doesn't address the context of why someone is touching "his sexual organ." He could be touching it after urinating, or during having sex with his wife, or for any other reasons (applying medicine).
All this hadith does is explain what to do after touching your organ, but doesnt address the act that makes you do it.

Weak hadith to either validate or invalidate beating the meat.

PCG, based on your logic, there is a hadith or verse that states that you have to undergo 80 lashes after you commit pre-marital sex. Now, since 80 lashes are all you have to endure (parallel: you only have endure doing ablution), then pre-marital sex is okay (parallel: masturbation must be OK). So, if i may steal your wordings, "the recommondation for performing an ablution (or 80 lashes) presupposes that "masturbation"(or pre-marital sex) is permissable (sic).

The lengths you people will go to tailor it to your needs. :p
