You guys are more than welcome not to agree with me, but saying that I am playing Allah is the most immature comment I have ever heard.
funny I don't see that I said that anywhere on what I wrote :)
what I mean is that you can't say one is graver when it probably didn't even exist back then.

.
and that is why edited my comment before you even posted your comment Kakee :)
and by the way, the sin of "aankhon ka zina" existed back then. It involves watching and enjoying anything that is vulgar, a dance, a picture, a live act of indecent exposure (hence even a recorded act as in videos)

hi jst wanted to leave a quick comment, i am sure more knowledgeable people may be able to elaborate, but a lot of differnt things come to the fore which were not present in the time of the Prophet.
in Islam there are provisions whereby eminent scholars and Muslims can use their reasoning in light of islamic law to come to a conclusion.
ijma and ijtehad to name two
ok all muslim posters tell me what is bigger sin zina aur taking interest on money?
I think taking interest on money is a bigger sin because in Qur'an Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says that He is at war with whoever is involved in riba.
and Allah knows best
Oh jee, I have not done research in this area. :D But I can tell you that women aren't as masoom as we believe them to be. I was reading an article in an Indian News Magazine about how these wealthy housewives have afternoon "fun" with their male servants. It's quite disgusting to know what all goes on these days. I mean, it would be nicer of they just watched porn I think. So the thing is, a sin is a sin. And there are many types of sins and levels of sins. I guess what we need to do is stop blaming one particular gender. We are ALL guilty of something, be it backbiting at its worst, lying, watching porn, stealing neighbor's water hose...whatever.
i dont think the thread was about blame... but about understanding why men who potray themselves as the namazi type, indulge in this type of behaviour.
There is no doubt women indulge as well... no doubt at all. But the question wasnt in relation to that :)
Once i asked a married guy, you are married now, you can do stuff in a decent way(halal) then why do you still watch porn? According to his philosophy: watching a porn is a totally different intoxication which can't be compared with physical one ;)
Since it's socially acceptable that makes it okay? Only a mad man would watch porn in front of his mum, what his mum doesn't know won't hurt her. Besides, it's not like most mums don't know their teenage boys get up to no good in their rooms.
The post was referring to married men and not teenage boys.
ultimately we should not point out and/or discuss the sins of another person until and unless we are free from sin ourselves so in a way TLK is right........however, if somebody is asking a question to better understand why something is happening for the purpose of perhaps eliminating it then I don't see the harm in the question. Nor do I understand why such a question must draw replies advising him/her that such and such a sin is bigger than the one you mention.......
at least a couple of people, including khawateen, have tried to provide a reasonable answer.
my opinion on the matter:
I believe that this is like an intoxication that is difficult for certain people to give up. So even after they are married and have access to a ja'iz means for satisfaction, they still regress to this activity.
May be because those men are unsatisfied and nothing would satisfy them because they're selfish. Only if they cared more about giving pleasure rather than seeking it.
