pakistan, a country that
takes pride in its diversity
and learned to walk
wobbling,
without support

and its people
each different than the next
speaking pashtu
or punjabi
living in a hut
or a bungalow

burns with contradictions
and glitters in its extremities
like the gadha gari
that overtakes the the mercedes

but the country faces difficulties
and tries to retain its identity
that everyone is trying to snatch away
What identity you may ask
and what culture

Ask Quaid-e Azam,
I'm sure he had something in mind
The dhoodh wala is trying to sell me milk
and the roads are congested because of Jumaah prayers

it may not be the cleanest
or your idea of a nice vacation spot
but, you are connected to it
it is made up of you

bomb blasts are not uncommon
and the innocent usually die
corruption is unyielding
but it will strive to survive

We can't get used to violence and destruction, because that is like giving in.

but this I’d like to say
that your people are beautiful
your hearts, your souls, your way

I’ve always had admiration
for the numerous talents in your land
the graciousness of the people
and the humility that goes hand in hand

I wish the best for your nation
on this special National Day
that may Allah bless this pure land
from evil that comes it way
