Manual or Automatic?

I don’t… i prefer Manual :snooty:

My current monstrocity, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, has the 6 speed automatic Tiptronic transmission (of course it has it… Porsche invented the tiptronic :))

… i thought i would hate it at first, but it’s pretty cool… takes some getting used to though…

Re: Manual or Automatic?

*What's the big f'ing deal with manual transmission? "Oooh look at me, I'm a bigshot, I can drive manual cars"; you manual car enthusiasts sound like 10 year old douchebags!

I'm not a freakin' formula-1 driver, and neither do I ever intend on racing to get to school/work. Why do I need the hassle of manual transmission? Just because I find it highly, highly annoying does not mean that I am a khassi driver; give it a rest!*

Re: Manual or Automatic?

In the US, a lot of cars will say they are available in manual transmission, but if you go to a car dealership, they will have to be specially ordered. I went to test drive a BMW 3 series (not M3) . They didn't have any 3 series on the lot that were stick, and the sales guy said they have to be specially ordered.

If you go to purchase a Corolla or Honda, you will find some with stick, but then you are limited in your other choices of colors and features. I don't think some domestics like GMC, Chevy and Ford even make stick for some of their models. They may be listed on their website, but it's rare to find one.

I love manual, I don't like Automatics, I especially don't like those gay gearboxes like tiptronic and touch tronic.

both my cars are manual and I love them, on the other hand - Porsche Triptronics, Audi DSG's, Lamborghini's E-Gear, BMW's SMG, Aston Martin's TouchTronic, driven them all and I can assure you that non of them could hold up a candle to the proper mans gearbox -- a manual gearbox--, while the Porsche Tiptronic and Audi DSG's are fine, I kinda like the DSG gearbox for its seeming less 20 millisecond gear changes but other then that its not a very lively gearbox and that sense control isn't there, it feels like you're pressing the L2 and R2 buttons on the Playstation controllers.

now coming to the STUPID flappy paddles (Ferrari's F1 Gear box & Lambo's E-Gear), as a track toy they work, maybe even better then a stick shift but every where else they FAIL, especially while reversing a car, unlike an ordinary transmission where the car starts to slide backwards and you could just simply park it, no problem at all, where as in a Ferrari F430 F1 all thats gonna happen in reverse gear is that you're slowly going sail forward or reverse up so fast into the wall/car and crash, or in the case of a cliff? well you just srot of get killed, the Lambo E-Gear is even worse, it is almost impossible to reverse up a slope with any dignity, and certainly not without making as much noise as a GP car. All this while travelling 20 yards at 0.05mph.

Manual Transmission FTW!.

judging from your post, I think you're the only "douchebags" here my friend.

well you should get out a bit more then often, FYI in Europe, more then 75% of cars have a manual transmission, more then 85% of cars in the Indian sub-continent have a manual transmission, same can be said for the east Asian and the south-east Asian continent aswell, why? you're wondering?, well for starters they're cheaper to make, secondly they're more economical, thirdly they're less prone to breaking down thus they're more reliable.

more over they give you more control over whats happening, now that seems something only required for track track day racing..... WRONG!, since the west thinks the whole world is a big open interstate/motorway and for that reason they've never improved on there suspension systems (the C6 ZR-1 Vette still runs on F'in leaf springs, the kind that you'd find on an early model Ox-Cart!), since there idea of speed is in a straight line and there idea of a car is just something made out of melted action man figures that would cover great distances while gliding on a cushion of air, for that reason they don't mind an Auto-Box.

since they've got no clue of what a B-Road is, if they were to ever visit parts of southern France or the Riviera, they'd literally die of shock! and on a curvy road the last thing you need is a gas guzzling Auto Box since it has a mind of its own and doesn't shift down where it should so when you exit a corner the car just virtually stops, so its completely pointless.

Re: Manual or Automatic?

Get an automatic. Manual is for poor middle aged men that enjoy racing their 15 year old Honda NSXs in between traffic lights :).

*Whoopdeedoo; except for a line or two, all of that crap went over my head. Next time, layman terms would suffice, please!

As I said, I am not freakin' Schumacher. And guess what? I have no interest in worrying or learning about when I should change gears or when to press the brake pedal or clutch, I just want to get from A to B, and if automatics make it easier for me, so be it. I see people here acting as if they are f'ing moonlanders for being manual car enthusiasts; give me a break!*

Re: Manual or Automatic?

similar arguments are made by those who play cricket with a tennis ball.

:)

Exactly, because they are not professional cricketers ;) . Just like none of you are Michael Schumacher ke chachas, shmucks.

:hehe: no no I am not middle aged I am more like three hundred twenty fourteen years old. :stuck_out_tongue:

now lets get the facts straight, I couldn't give a flying F*** about your likes and hobbies are in the same way you think that I or anybody else is a "douchebags" because of the fact that they're enthusiast, so your likes might be my dislikes and my likes might be your dislikes, no need to get all emotional here, yes I do believe I am Schumacher, infact I believe I am better then that confused middle aged idiot, if you've got a problem with that then I'd suggest you keep it to your self.

:rotfl:

Re: Manual or Automatic?

I have a manual licence but I do not drive a manual car.

Re: Manual or Automatic?

[mod]why making it such a big deal guys! What transmission you like for yourself is YOUR choice. BOTH sides have their reasons, but it doesn't mean that you start mocking other person and start making personal references on it's basis. Take this as my 1st and last warning. Keep this discussion civilized, who drives what and then making fun of it is not the issue here. [/mod]

ello there!, long time!

whats a Manual license?, I mean do you guys have a different license for Auto and Manual boxes? :konfused:

Re: Manual or Automatic?

Hey, I know.

Sorry I meant I took 40 classes of manual training and passed my driving test in a manual car. So that is called a manual licence in short:cb:

:hehe: acha, waise living in U.A.E I don’t think you’d really need a Manual right?, so are you good at driving a manual?.

Re: Manual or Automatic?

Well I could easily go 120 in a manual sunny and drove to my uni with the trainer in a manual car only after 3 classes:blush: So I guess yeah:p

Plus when I was 16 17 I used to drive manual car in the summer in Pakistan so I had practice:cb:

No manual car is not necessary but dad wanted me to learn manual because if you know manual then you can drive both manual and automatic

lol I see, so you’ve driven in Pakistan?, phir tou aap kisi rally driver say kam thori na ho.

Re: Manual or Automatic?

Are you kidding, its so crazy in lahore lol.. especially ichra shalamar side:cb:
