Manual or Automatic?

Re: Manual or Automatic?

Heavy bike ... the best option u can go with

Manual shift cars are more economical, i.e., they burn less fuel and hence relatively less environmentally damaging.

Everyone keeps raving about manuals, but from various sources I know that even people in Pakistan are opting for automatics over manual. People are Pakistan are much more sensitive to price then other countries.

I just looked at the Suzuki and Toyota websites, and the mpg for auto vs manual for the same model only differ by 1 or 2.

You are such an E-gangster, oooh. Anyway, majority of manual car enthusiasts still act like 12-year old douchebags, end of story. You getting offended is just a sign of self-analysis and some reflection I'm guessing!

Re: Manual or Automatic?

Bhaio, big difference between American vs Europan/Asian thinking towards manual vs auto. This argument is much like the arguments between Intel and AMD, Nvidia and ATI, and builing vs buying your computer.

Salaamz

Personally as a Mechanic i would have to say Manual. Has anyone tried to repair an Automatic gearbox?:hoonh:

Purely for ease it would have to be a manual. Automatic drives easier(that’s why women like need em) but when it brakes down then you cannot exactly fix it easily.

A manual gearbox is far less likely to cause trouble in the first place and is relatively easy to sort out if you know what your doing.

In case anyones asking, my first car was a Vauxhall Chevette.
That was a manual. I’ve only ever driven a Mitsubishi Shogun and a Toyota hi-lux that were Auto. I currently have a Toyota Corrola and a Ford Capri. I have also got an old Opel Manta classic car, and a honda 750 nighthawk motorbike.

I ride bikes and drive cars/trucks so i can say with confidence that i prefer Manual.

no offense to you but you’re talking about a country where the Machis ki Dibbi (Mehran) will easily do over 50 mpg and yet they have to convert that tiny 600cc mouse of an engine to run on CNG, if they were to ever find out that a Manual will still get them a couple of miles further then they’d in an Auto, I bet you a million pounds they’d never ever opt for an Auto box again, hell they’ve even got CNG on Rickshaws nowadays and I don’t blame then, I mean the average person earning 10k-12k a month and for him to pay 75 r.s a liter in petrol even an extra mile counts, its just the lack knowledge that gets in the way.

good!, you stick by your judgment and I’ll stick to mine, end of discussion.

not so, I’d say Queer gave pretty much the definitive example of an alternative to the Manual and Auto box argument :hehe:.

thats exactly what I’ve been on about but some people just don’t get it :hinna:.

P.S what MY Capri do you own? + the Opel Manta is an Awesome car, I love its look and the way it drives, you’ve got a good taste in cars I presume.

Re: Manual or Automatic?

Defo prefer manual, got a merc slk and my Dad wanted me to get the auto version but for me they're just so boring to drive. Also, when I'm stressed I love shooting down winding country lanes which would be rubbish in an automatic. I have a lot of friends who are into racing (Gumball rally and all that) and not one of them prefers automatic. Doesn't come down to how much money u have to spend, imo more to do with driving style and how much enjoyment u want to get from it.

My gearstick popped out of its socket once (stupid parking attendant at Selfridges) but it was fixed by just pushing it back in lol

My ford capri is a MK2 2 litre in vibrant red. Trouble is it's not the most environmentally friendly car.

But at least the carburretor is really easy to tune up to get the most power. It would make a decent substitute if you wanted a car that looked like an all American muscle car, but it actually performs like an overwieght balet dancer! I hope to sell it one day becuase an engine change on this "beast" is out of the question

Yep the Opel manta is definatley awsome. Mine was originally yellow but i had it re-sprayed for about £1500 back in 2001 so it's now a nice gloss black.

nice to know, I really like the front end of the Mk3 Capri, lol environment friendliness and automotive enthusiasm don’t get along very well.

yeah I will agree to the fact that the good old carburetor were easily to fix and made better noises aswell, :hehe: @ the over weight ballet dancers, there is nothing 2 pairs of after market suspensions can’t fix and if the engine is all that more expensive then why don’t you opt for the cheaper 2.5l 5cylinder Volvo engine, the one also found in the Focus RS, they are great engines allround, my first car was a Volvo 850 T5R and it had the same 20v 2.5L 5cyliner engine and it was a joy to rev that thing.

Re: Manual or Automatic?

for the crazy traffic of karachi, definitely an auto

BUt you will be in more control as you sit in traffic!
