Hi Supersummer,

I am a qualified hair and makeup artist and based in London.

I charge between £150 - £200 for full bridal hair and make up with dupatta/sari and jewellery setting.

If you are interested, please call me on 07809 436046. I am happy to send you some pics of real brides.

Good luck with your search x

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

^^ can you share the pics?

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

Hey girls,

I was reading through this thread and it made me remember my experience on my wedding day last year. See below for the email I sent to my MUA a few months after my wedding and surprise surprise I got no response. I've noticed that no-one in the wedding industry can admit when they have made a mistake...they take your money and run. I hope you all read this and learn from my mistakes! xx

"I have been debating for months now whether or not to get in touch with you. My friends and family have told me that it's too late and I should move on. But I will not be able to move on unless I say my piece.

This email is regarding my wedding day which took place on Friday 16th July 2010. I booked you through word of mouth and because you impressed me in the make-up trial - on the standard of your make-up at least. I was promised a dress rehearsal before my wedding which would include hair, make-up, jewellery and dupatta setting. When I proceeded to contact you closer to the date of my wedding, you said you were busy and that I had left it too late. Little did you know that my wedding dress designer gave my clothes a day before my wedding, therefore I was unable to purchase my jewellery which I tried to explain to you on the phone.

Back to my wedding day. Before arriving you asked me whether I had any safety pins. I was already stressed out and to find out that my make-up artist did not even have safety pins worried me further. So much so, that I even went to the hotel reception desk to ask them if they had any. Upon arrival you immediately asked for the money. I found this quite strange and still do. After recently getting my hair and make up done by a make-up professional, she only asked for the money once I was happy with her services.

I believe problems occurred when you began doing my hair. If I remember correctly I showed you an image that I liked and wanted which you had no problem in doing. You proceeded to do my hair whilst continously speaking to my photographer (which is very unprofessional) and that's when you made a mistake. You were aware that you had made an error, and tried to rectify albeit failing miserably because you didn't want to start all over again. I felt that you were in a rush and were unattentive.

Furthermore, I was shocked to see that you found it a struggle to do my dupatta setting. I even had to guide you whilst you were doing this. I believe I said to you I was 'uncomfortable' and I felt that the dupatta wasn't secure, you basically said there was nothing you could do and it was 'too late' to put a sponge in my hair, even though I was on the verge of tears. I know I was against having a sponge in my hair but since it was my first time getting married I didn't realise how important it was to have one for the dupatta to sit right. In an attempt to salvage the error you made you half-heartedly shoved a sponge in my hair, which fell out by the way when you dashed off in a hurry. Myself, my friends and sisters were left behind to pick up the pieces.

I believe that you called yourself 'high-end' amongst well established make-up artists such as Lubna Rafiq and Naveeda therefore it was justified that I pay you £400 plus £75 for a trial that was supposed to include hair aswell. I think the above make up artists have established their credibility over the years and honed their weaker skills - whatever they may be and therefore it is understandable why they charge a high rate. I believe that your current rate does not match the services that you provide. Another make-up artist, whose name I won't mention was quite honest with me in my trial that I had with her. She was to do the make up and her assistant was to do the dupatta and jewellery setting - probably because it wasn't her strong point. As a side note, I wish to add that the lashes that you provided me with were very cheap. As soon as I shed a tear they fell off. I believe on the trial you used more expensive and long lasting ones.

I don't know why I didn't mention this to you then, probably because we had built up a 'friendship'. Kaniz, all I wish to say to you is that you ruined what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. Even guests noticed I was uncomfortable because my dupatta kept slipping from my head and I had to keep adjusting it throughout the day. I can barely look through my wedding pictures or even watch my wedding film without recollecting the events. And that is the honest truth. I don't believe that as a person or a make-up artist you truly understand how extremely important a girls wedding day is.

The reason I write this now is because i don't want bride to be's to have the same experiences that I had with you. This may not matter to you, you may have never had bad feedback from a bride before, I may be the first but I want you to remember this. Moreover, I can honestly say that I have not and will not be recommending your services to anyone anytime soon.

It is with regret that I write this email because I was so sure that when I booked you, you were going to make me look and feel like a

princess.

This was clearly not the case"

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

^Was the mua Kaniz Ali? if so, am so glad u shared ur bad experience with her, I was thinking of going on a course with her

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

Yes colourful eyes it was her. How did you guess? Xxx

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

I've heard of her, and have seen her brides her work looks impressive. She has a fb group too but ur experience is the first I've read from her.

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

Yeah...i've not seen any reviews on her and not many people have discussed her here either. Her make-up was fine, but on the day it was different to what she did in the trial. She's a one trick pony in that she cannot do hair or dupatta setting. She should have an assistant who can do this like some of the other big MUA's out there.

Are you married yet?

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

alya i feel bad for you - that's terrible and she charged a fortune!! she has now opened up a very snobby restaurant near heathrow which i hear is pretty bad too :0(

i once overheard people discussing her on a train (random i know) saying she is from a wealthy background and keeps trying her hand at different things and moves on once she gets bored; maybe that's why customer service wasn't a priority for her :(

I think its really important for people to share experiences when such an important day and so much money is involved

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

As requested here are some more pics of my Mehndi

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

Hey supersummer, thanks for your comments.

Yes I drove by her restaurant...I won't be going there any time soon! Hahaha. Yes she is from a wealthy background. Her father owns a restaurant and she has invested in it too. She qualified as a lawyer from a prestigious university and worked in one of the best law firms in London, before leaving to pursue make-up.

It sounds like i'm rattling off her biography! She approached me to write a piece on her (before my wedding but after I had booked her) for an international fashion magazine. I was praising her a lot in the article which I regret now! I wish I could take every word back. As a thank you, she got me a really really cheap make-up set...I am not exaggerating. I think it was from one of those indian shops for like £1. I havent even used them I think there is a lot of hype around her, I think because her best friend is that model Gulzaeb Beg Ali. Also, I think she was overbooked on my wedding day because she was in a hurry. If I was a MUA, I would book only one bride and devote my entire attention to her. It just makes sense. Money comes and goes, but without a solid customer foundation you're nothing. Are you getting married? xx

@ Colourful Eyes - Love the mehndi pics. Where in London is Shugufta based? x

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

That is really tough luck, But I'm glad u wrote ur review on here and I'm sure u will save alot of people the trouble of booking her. Who did u book for ur walima? Shagufta Is based in East london (just off of Green st).

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

Thanks for the photo's Colourful Eyes.

Also seriously how hard is it to find a make-up artist! There's so many :( and plus I should go for a trail but they charge like £50 :o There's a few good ones to choose from.

I think i've narrowed it down to:

Sadaf Khawaja
Shazia Khan

so far. I've still got more to look through!

Also has anyone heard of Sujita in london?

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

@Colourful_eyes - Thanks, but East London is a bit far for me :frowning:

@Cupcake when are you getting married?

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

@ colourful eyes - my walima was in pakistan. Luckily the lady knew everything about hair/dupatta setting. Make-up was okay.

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

Aliyahdar i'm getting married next year in april but because i'm also gonne be in my last year of uni i wanna sort as much out as possible. :) Can you recommend anyone? Are you married?

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

Yes I am married :) Actually, I was just thinking of you. You said trials are really expensive but 'Deena make-up' (you can find her on FB)) is doing an offer which is a free trial. She doesn't have that many real brides pics on FB but I've seen her work in real life and it isn't bad...actually I might have some pics. And its free!

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

Aww thanks for that but i didn't really like her make-up.

I've also decided to go with Allenora in london. Has anyone used her? I'm narrowing it down to 2-3 and then going for trials.

Re: Makeup Artists in UK [all threads merged]

A friend who got married a few years back got her make-up done from by Sadaf at Allenora. It was horrible! Very cakey, foundation was really dark, eyeshadows weren't blended.

I think some of the girls on here will have a better insight. How about Dil Matharu?
