Make up artists in Chicago

looked up Ashyana after you recommended it and I looooovvved the pics. I just wish there were more on the website. Here is the pic I fell in love with http://www.ashyanabanquets.com/ashyana/images/scene_3.gif

But I dunno, it’s kinda far.

So far I’ve heard good things about White Eagle, but haven’t seen good pics yet, lol.

So I guess my top 3 picks are the Ashyana hall, the Holiday Inn (cuz it’s close), and I will check out Crystal Palace as well.

Do you know if the food at Ashyana and Crystal Palace are halal? I guess I could call and ask, but if you know off the top of your head that would be great

And let’s say I cater from another restaurant…like Sabri or whatever. Do the Sabri staff come to the hall and cook everything there? Or do they just deliver the food and we have to warm it up? Or the hall staff warms it up??
Ugh so confusing! That’s why I’m planning more than a year in advance, lol.

Thanks again

Astoria banquets. Will take note! Thanks :)
And congrats on your wedding! InshAllah it'll be great :)

Druggist... Also try The Meadows Club. Its on Golf in Rolling Meadows. My uncle recommended this place the day AFTER my parents gave our deposit to Waterford. We went to check it out anyways upon my uncle's insistence. We LOVED the meadows club but were unable to get our deposit back so we stayed with Waterford. The thing that i loved about the waterford - besides the elegance of the venue and the location is that it offers a lot of amenities - more than a lot of the other halls I looked at including 3 bridal rooms for the family of the bride and the bride's hairdresser & makeup artist complete with a salon setup and a shower. It is also owned by a group of desis but is managed by someone other than the owners. The same caterers that cater Waterford cater this place.

To me, Waterford is a very nice hall as well. It just doesn't have all the additional features that the meadows club does. Their website: themeadowsclub.com

ClassyGal: Your getting married in 3 months and only have a a few things left to do!!! LOL... You're scaring me. Im getting married in 3 months as well and have done nothing but secured the venues and picked out my wedding clothes.

Has anyone gone for makeup trials that can send me pics/reviews???

Sorry for the super long post guys... =)

Hey Kiran, that Crystal Palace Banquets --- it it in Mt. Prospect or in Park Ridge?? Because the website says Mt. Prospect, but according to my little Yahoo search, they made a new one somewhere?

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

lol sorry didnt mean to scare you.. i meant i took care of the big stuff and now theres the little stuff left to do... i have to get his ring, his watch, his suit for the valima, finalize my makeup artist although ive narrowed it down to 2 ladies (havent done trials at either but i kind of have an idea as to what i want to do), and we also need to finalize the caterer for the wedding, but again, it'll be either Usmania or Sabri.. i love usmania and think nothing else compares but we're having Usmania served at the valima and my family things we should have a different caterer for the wedding - just for a change... besides that, i think im set alhumdulilah.. i think the hardest part is narrowing down the halls, decorators, photographers, and makeup artist..and of course clothes.. which my mother-in-law already got for me and im pleased with thank God... i want this wedding to be nice.. but im being a lot more practical about everything... i think it may be because im a little older than the average 21 yr old girl thats getting married these days..i think of things i remember when i come home from weddings (nothing! lol) and realize that the tiniest details, only YOU will notice, not your guests, so theres no sense stressing about them.. no one remembers anything from weddings.. so theres no sense in me pouring hundreds of money into these things.. id rather save all the money that i can for me and my husband to enjoy afterwards insha'Allah... and i just keep reminding myself that im getting married for the sake of Allah.. not to please my 400 guests..i will not take my centerpieces with me to my grave! but at the same time, i want to throw a nice event and just want to make sure pple enjoy it.. im not trying to make this the party of the century lol and insha'Allah it will be a nice event that i can look back on and not kick myself for wasting so much money on! just trying to be practical with all this.. weddings can get expensiveeeee.. i remember when my brother got married yrs ago, no one was into lavish stages, centerpieces, etc... but now, all of that is the norm.. everything is so over the top...but i always prefer classy ;)

ok sorry..i just wanted to write that post so all u pple that are stressing about finding the perfect hall, decorator, photographer.. just please don't stress out... ur basically planning 5 hours of your entire life... take a deep breath... and ask everyone for help... and ur wedding will be just what u imagine it to be insha'Allah :) good luck allllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

Hi Druggiest!
Yes it is in Mt.prospect il
here is there website Crystal Palace Banquets
Crystal Palace Banquets
1070 S. Elmhurst Rd.
Mt. Prospect. IL 60056

Phone 847.956.7400
Fax 847.956.7410
Try to call and see if you are able to talk to them. They will tell you exactly where they are and how you should locate them.

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

Thanks Kiran!
I talked to Ashyana Banquets today and I got soooo happy and excited!
Of course I will take a look at more halls, but I think this one is the winner because they have a Muslim chef who could cook both halal paki and american dishes!
And once I give them the menu preferences, they set an appointment where you could sample the food and request it to be less salty, more mirchy, etc!
And they can also do very nice stage set ups!
I have asked that instead of a "head table" that they set up a stage instead, so hopefully they can do that without too much extra charge...
They emailed me extra pics of the hall and the stages they make too :)

Thanks again Kiran sooooo much for mentioning them to me! :)

They quoted about 40 bucks per person, that includes centerpieces, the full menu, etc. I'm hoping it won't be too much extra with the stage....
Do you know if halls bargain? What would be a good price to suggest to them? 35 per person???
I'll probably have around 200-250 guests (including all the kiddies)

Aaahh I'm so excited now :)

classyGal I couldn't agree more with you!
Thanks for this post, it really helps put things in perspective. Truly center pieces do not matter, and it's only 5 hours of your life, as you said.
Plus, it's the people that are there who make it special, not what color the linen is! :)

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

No Prob at all druggiest
Hmmm i dont know anything about bargin but yes do try to bargain with them as we wanted to rent this hall for our twins first birthday too but they were booked so we couldn't and let me tell you. I am sure you will love their hall too, since we have seen so many halls and we liked either crystal palace or ashayana. but we rented crystal palace. If you need more help do let me know.

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

thanks druggist ;) lol.. i know i myself was getting stressed out and carried away.. but just had to take a step back and take a deep breath and really focus on things that do matter..which is my actual marriage afterwards and not the actual 5 hr wedding event... this is a random question, but when are u all getting married? anyone else have a middle of july wedding? there are already 2 other weddings on the same day as mine! lol

lol, mine inshAllah will be next year in June :-P
I'm planning from afar, that's why I am looking into stuff now
I am sure no one has the same date as me yet, but then when June is close there will be 10 more weddings on the same date :) which is good though, lol. Marriage is a blessing afterall so the more weddings the better, I say :)

No problemo. I have pmed you her info. Duas is what I would def. love :)

When you book a gora hall you ask them if they allow you to bring outside caterers or there is a list you have to chose from. Desi restaurants take already cooked food to your venue. Besides the per person charge for food they charge for delivery as well as delivery guys. These guys not only deliver food but ensure that the gora servers/waiters know what to serve & when in terms of snacks, appetizers, main course & sweet dishes. . Also the banquet provides warmers & coolers in a kitchen that you can usually use in the kitchens. Before booking a hall ask them if the kitchen rental is included or not.

White eagle exclusively allows Sabri for catering or either Gaylord if I am not wrong. Holiday Inn in Skokie is good. My cousin's wedding took place back in 2007 over there. The cook over there catered for late Benazir Bhutto's wedding. Chateau Ritz is all I can say is I am having my wedding over there. Its beautiful from inside. Has that regal look. I saw it last year in Dec. when I was booking it. They have renovated it since then so I am sure it must look even prettier. They might have raised their prices though.

When you book a gora hall you tell them you are renting the hall. Its called a hall rental because you don't want food or liquor. Prices & services vary from hall to hall. Ashyana is good. Expensive per desi standards I guess. If you ar inclined towards Ashyana then do check out Gora halls too. You can get better services & desi food catered from anywhere.

White Eagle is good.
Ashyana def. has halal food.
Cooking is never done on premises unless until its a desi hall. Goras won't let you do that for insurance reasons. Hall staff only serves. As I mentioned its the delivery guys sent from the restaurant that make sure the food is kept warm. The hall is supposed to provie you a kitchen with coolers, sinks, warmers, even garbage disposal & all.

Oh & by the way Astoria is good too. I am having my walema there. I do differ with ClassyGal who mentioned Lora is sweet. But she did work with us in terms of the prices & all.

Hope you are feeling better now Classygal.

Also girls out there. Def. give a try to LubnaKhan/Maliha Khan. I got my trial done from them & I am most probably booking them for sure. Will post more info later but whoever lives in Chicago get a trial with them. They really worked with me in terms of what I wanted & how I want it. Later I will write more when everything is finalized.

Saleha for me is a big no no. Will write about that later.

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

i am feeling much better, thank u! wow ur having ur valima at astoria? thats so interesting considering everytime i mention that hall to anyone, they're like HUH? where's that? lol but im glad u got a good deal but sorry Lora didn't work nicely with u.. she was such a sweetheart with us..well so far.. we're finalizing the contract for the mehndi on saturday iA... theres another hall, diplomat west..its cute..nothing too extravagant.. but again, the owner was very sweet to us.. his name was Tom.. the location is pretty nice, right off the highway and its in elmhurst.. and they recently just renovated it... i was looking to have my mehndi there as well but Astoria gave us a better deal and I love Astoria's lobby..

im still trying to finalize my make-up artist, iA that goes well! :) ... another off the topic question, but how soon are u guys sending ur invitations out for the wedding? 2 months before the wedding they get mailed out? or is that too soon?

Maliha emailed me pics of Lubna Khan's makeup, and it was beauutiful. I will go for a trial in July, and inshAllah book them.

Saleha...I think she could do hair styles if not makeup...I am thinking of trying to book her for my bridesmaids hair styles. Then they can decide if they want the makeup or not.

Thanks Bint_e_Naeem for all the hall info!!! Definitley will look into a gora hall now too :-) And it's good to know there's a good chef at Holiday Inn @ Skokie...
by the way, have you tried Ashyana's food? Is it good??
And does Holiday Inn do stages? Or would I have to hire a 3rd party for the stage?
The folks at Ashyana do stages as well, so I think I can bargain with them a little. But if Holiday Inn is also desi, then if they do stages and have halal food, the convenience would make it a definite option for sure!

My wedding inshAllah is next year in June.
I intend to call everyone and invite them over the phone and ask for their addresses perhaps in early march. And then send out the cards to be there 2 months in advance.
So I guess a good gap between the phone invite/address request and the actual card would be about 3 weeks. So that they are thinking about it, but then just as they begin to forget about it, the card comes in the mail :-)
But I guess that's just me. There surely is a better way to do it :-)

Salam again :-)
How much did the Chateau Ritz cost without the food? I guess I could call them up, but if you don't mind sharing then that would be very helpful :-)
all the best to you!

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

thanks for the card timing info druggist.. i finally narrowed down my guest list last night..thats was the most difficult part! oh and ashyana's food is pretty good.. ive been to multiple parties there.. its not too spicy and not too bland.. just right... i dont know anything about the holiday inn though...

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

Hey guys
I have beeen reading these blogs and all of your information is totally helpful! So thanks a bunch! I went to Kaaya's and it was a horrible experience. My first impression was that it would be a really nice place to get my bridal makeup done at. They look very professional and well mannered. The salon itself looks pretty decent too. But OMG when my trial started I wanted to scream! The makeup artist used colors of pink and gold on my eyes. Except I was wearing a red outfit! I aksed her to use a lil gold and red even i mean anything but pink! but she said she didnt have any other colors on her. And then she used just a regular eye pencil to do my eyes instead of liquid/powdery eye shadows. I waned a bit of a smokey looked but instead all I got was a pink eye. literally. Anyway I really need help finding a good makeup artist. I really like Meshi Khan's work but she is too pricey. Any oter suggestions? How's Anjum and Zainab? Sawliha seems nice too but I dont know if she has had any professional training =/ any suggestions? My wedding is less than a month away and I still dont have a makeup artist. HELP!!!

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

wow, sounds pretty unprofessional. I wonder how different their actual wedding makeup is..
I was considering doing a trial from kaaya, but now I don't know.
InshAllah in July I'll have an appointment with Maliha's (another guppy-fotonic) mother in law, Lubna Khan. I am really excited about that!! Hopefully it'll be great inshAllah, and it works out well because Maliha is a photographer :)

I was also thinking of getting a trial done from Meshi Khan...do you know her rates? How pricey is her work???

good luck, inshAllah it'll work out.
