Salam All,
I'm new to this forum and was wondering if any of you wonderful ladies could help me with this problem.
Thing is I am going to get married in Chicago but don't actually live there. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any nice make up artists for valima? Please include ur experiences and if possible, the price ranges, website, etc.
Also, anyone know of any good photographers in the chicago area for wedding coverage?

Salam Mahwish! I am also getting married in Chicago this summer. A very good photographer is Syed Studios. They are located in one of the suburbs of Chicago, I believe in Villa Park. My whole family has used him for wedding photography/videography, and we've all had a very good experience with him. His albums and videos are always very professional. If you're looking for decorators too, then Dream Occasions is a good company as well. They are a little pricey, but have done some very impressive work.
I myself am searching for good make up artists in Chicago as well. I would love ANY help whatsoever! And let me know how the photographer situation works out for you!

There are many salons on devon street that offer bridal makeup.however, i would highly recommend this girl named shumaila. she works for mac at nordstrom at the old orchard center,skokie.

she did my sister's wedding makeup,both barat and walima and my nikah makeup..she's the best one ive seen in chicago.uses all mac makeup and just great at eye makeup..she can also do trial for you if you tell her the colors of your dress etc/
however she does makeup only and you will have to goto someone on devon for your hair and dupatta.i would recommend bibiya.
we've did our own decos for my sister's wedding and it was just much more affordable.

I am teeni's sister and got my makeup done by SHumaila at Old Orchard mall's MAC counter and totally loved it. She is very good at what she does and is open to suggestions if you tell her what you want or dont want. I would highly recommend her. Her makeup prices are a bit high as compared to the Devon salons but worth every single penny.
Btw the number to Nordstorm is 847.677.2121. You can call and ask for the MAC makeup counter and then ask for Shumaila.

In which case, I was wondering, if any of you have pictures you can post of your make up or wedding decorations, done by the chicago make up artists/decorators, etc.
Oh & I did look up Syed's Studio's website, but his portfolio has given me mixed feelings. I mean some px are really nice and then others are not that gr8. I wonder if the quality of the px depends on the price of the package? Like perhaps if you pay $ 5000 (the platinum) then you get really nice px? What do you say?

Quality of the pics shouldn't differ. Its the quantity of work that changes & the extras that vanish. Mahwish I m from Chicago too & have booked Syed's for my wedding. Honestly speaking I don't think their website does justice to there work. I live in Houston & have been going back and forth to do some wedding preparations. Since you don't live in Chicago I can tell you one thing., Syed's are very accomodating. I only visited them once & since then we have been in contact through email & that's how we signed our contract too. Also made the payment through phone. Syed's seems to be the only desi professionals in Chicago. I walked in once in their store & the guy Javed was not even expecting us yet he showed us some video samples as well as some photo samples & explained us everything & most of all I must admit he was organized. Note I also checked out 3 other videographers/photographers & was dissapointed because everyone lacked something.
For make up Ira & Teeni have already given you contacts. I got my engagement make up done from Zubaida in Duplex (hope I spelled it right). She did my hair, make up & dupatta setting for $130. I gave her $20 extra though. Although I thought my make up was overdone in pictures it came out great.
For my Nikkah I went to this Make up artist Anjum Hussain. Funny thing is she works for Mac at Nordstorm in Shaumburg & if I am not wrong Anjum & Shumaila know each other as well. She did a real good job on my eyes. Charged me $100 for the make up. Doesn't do hairtyles or dupatta setting & told me that there is someone else who usually does it for brides for an extra charge of course.
Also just recently I found out from one of my Arab friends that their is a guy who does bridal make ups. He is gay though in the 50/50 way. If u know what I mean. He did my friend's sister's bridal make up & MY sister has seen the pictures. Although I have yet to see his work. I have heard a lot about him too.

I should also mention that SHahin from Glamour salon did my nikah makeup and hairstyle, dupatta etc. Her work is pretty ok. She tried insisting on putting a certain color on me and i had to remind her that it wasnt what i was looking for. The foundation she used also somewhat melted off after a few hours but it covered really well for as long as it stayed on. Her makeup is better than alot others on Devon but her attitude is lacking. I dont like it when the MUA is talking on the phone while working on me or making me wait. I later went on to her for a hair cut and she ruined my hair because she was busy talking to her SIL or some other relative present in the salon. I never went back.

omg ira, you got a haircut from shaheen?? SHE ruined my hair too plus she also colored my hair orange(yuck!)...yeah, I learned my lesson the hard way! I found her makeup to be okayish too(hairstyle looked great), well i had no other option coz my budget was tight. She was prolly the best that fit my budget. My foundation didnt melt though. BTW, I loved your makeup from both days.

Alright, Ive got some recommendations for makeup, photography and videography.
For makeup, Mehwish Khan is great. I can send you her contact info, PM me if you need it. Another person to go to is Zaynub…Im in the process of getting her info these days because Ive got to start scheduling my trials. As soon as I get it, Ill shoot it your way. Mehwish is on facebook too by the way. One suggestion for all of you ladies is to take a picture or a look that you want to the make up artist to help them understand your vision. It helps a lot.
For photography, I HIGHLY recommend Amna Siddiqui. She is absolutely amazing in my personal opinion and am booking her myself: www.amnasphotography.com. She has a photojournalistic approach that Im a big fan of. Most of my friends have all gone through her and no one has ever complained.
For videography, I recommend Memories In Motion’s Mili Ghosh: www.memoinmotion.com. Ive seen her work at quite a few weddings and its very good.
