Hey Salam everyone!
I've been following this thread along and greatly appreciating every bit of advice.
I've lived in Chicago all my life but have now moved to AZ. The wedding will inshAllah be next year, but I am trying to get together all the details now, since it is hard arranging a wedding from so far away.

About photography, I need a female to take pics. Cuz of parda issues and stuff. I haven't heard about many female photographers, so am highly considering an American photographer. I think they did my brother's wedding for about 400-500 bucks, but it was only a one day wedding. I am also thinking of having just a one day program.

I'm going to visit in July inshAllah, and am thinking of getting makeup trials done from Kaaya and maybe Saleha. I have yet to call them.

Again thanks for your advice folks! If I ever find anything of use, I will definitley share.

Salam Mehwish!
Can you send me the pics of Bina's work? I might just add her to "list of people I need trials from" when I visit in July :)
My email is [email protected]
Thanks hun

Salam Everyone,
Mehwish i have send you all the pics, kindly send me HSY pics and Bina's work pics if its possible. Thanks

testing....

omg.. i posted this looooooooooooooong message and it didnt post :(

let me see if i can summarize...
im from chicago and getting married in july iA and have lotssss of advice to give on anything chicago + wedding related...ive been making numerous trips to banquet halls, decorators, photographers, etc etc etc

lets start with make-up artists:

Saleha

pros: super sweet, her and her sisters are OBSESSED with make-up so u know ur in good hands, she LISTENS to what u want, has worked for numerous make-up counters

cons: not too professional (just recently got into the bridal make-up business), has more of a funky, colorful style.. if you want a colorful face, this is a pro..if ur looking for a more natural, toned down look, this is a con

Zainab:

pro: professional work (got trained in paki), she's done numeroussss friends of mine and has done an outstanding job each and everytime

cons: doesnt offer trials, pretty expensive (around $400 for one day), not reliable (she stood up many brides last year when she decided to go to paki and get married and didnt notify any of the brides she had scheduled), doesnt return phone calls easily

I'm looking into getting a trial from kaaya.. i work half an hour away from them...i will ask for "maria" as someone had previously suggested.. anyone know of their prices? i have yet to call them...

******photographers

the only 2 i bothered looking into were zeerum and sejal... many of my friends have gotten one or the other and have been satisfied with both... their work and prices are similar.. i think the only difference is that one is muslim and one is hindu lol... ive seen both of their work and its great :) ... as for somebody looking for a lady photographer, have u tried amna siddiqui..shes great.. or theres a girl by the name of arzoo..but she works with her dad i believe...she might be able to work something out with u...

********decoraters
i went thru rami... he's very nice...and cares A LOT about his image..so he wont stick wilting flowers in ur centerpiece! ... the only thing is all the pics i saw on his computer (he had thousands!) were very costly to do... so i just gave him a budget and he said he'd work within that budget... so we'll see what happens! (fingers crossed)

the other decoraters that my friends have gone thru and are REASONABLY priced are

-sprinkles
-professional party planners
-sonray events
-shaadi creations

ive had quite a few friends that have gone thru one of the above for their weddings.. and they've all been pleased... again, there are others like dream occassions, utsav creations, but i feel they're more pricey...

i hpe that helped some of u... i just need help with finding a cute do-it-yourself mehndi backdrop..im trying to save costs and have very creative friends/cousins who will help...we just need a cute idea...

also, i need the name of a good mehndi girl.. i like the arabic style of mehndi.. so if anyone has good contacts, let me know please and the rates she charges...

..and im debating how to do my hair for the wedding and valima.. a "beech ki maang" looks horrible on me! and also i dont like the gel/slicked back bangs...just thinking about that hairstyle gives me a headache... i normally do a side part but i feel that doesnt look good w/ a teeka

and i have to find a good caterer (cuz we all know if the food is bad, the wedding will suck!).. and ill probably just end up going with usmania or sabri.. and then i think ill be set..

i just cant believe how much money im pouring into this thing... i wish i would've just gotten my nikkah done at the masjid and be done with it and saved all this money for me and my husband afterwards!!!!! oh well... too late now! good luck to all of u fellow brides, let me know if u have any ?'s, and may Allah bless our marriages with infinite amounts of happiness!!!!!!

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

btw, i joined this forum yesterday and cuz i wanted to strictly reply to this exact thread and help u guys out.. i was reading the comments daily and was itching to say something.. and finally i did it..haha.. :)

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

oh yeah and my friend had a trial from anjum last year and wasnt really impressed but ive seen her do great work on other brides..

the other well -known make-up artist is Anna.. she was at the dulhania bazaar doing free mini-trials... she does eyes really well and is really nice as well.. i think her prices are a bit higher than saleha's though

mona raja, ive heard she does more of a natural look and zareen i added on facebook but wasnt too impressed with her work.. im extremely picky with the look that i want so im on a hunt to find the perfect one!

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

OH and can someone send me the HSY pics with kaaya's make-up? my email is [EMAIL="[email protected]"][email protected] id appreciate it! :)

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

Hey Guys!!

Wow this site is sooooooooooooooo cool!!! Very helpful!

Since you guys are searching for makeup artists, and im always looking out for good ones as well! Theres this one girl that does a really good job. I don't know if shes mentioned yet, but her name is Rabia. Shes relatively new (i believe) but some of my friends had gotten trials/makeup done by her and shes really good!!!! I think her style is very clean and updated. Shes not too traditional (im guessing!) But I think she'd be worth a shot!

how are you guys liking the other MUA in the area?! I've been to anjum and I did NOT like her makeup! I really love Zainabs style as well! But i hear she is hard to deal with!

Hi!

sure no problem, i'm sending u her pics!

:D

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

Hey! Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I was actually really stressed while prepping for my wedding but things turned out great, m'A....for the most part....I WOULD NOT recommend Syed Studios for photography/videography....his work is very average but the samples that he shows you is amazing. I STILL haven't gotten my work from him and my one year anniversary is approaching! :( He's very unprofessional so I would look elsewhere.

Also, I would definitely recommend Zareen Chaudhry (MAKEUP ARTIST ON THE RISE!!! sp?) for bridal makeup...I've seen brides that she's done and they look absolutely amazing in PICTURES AS WELL AS IN REAL LIFE! She's got a very elegant touch and it doesn't look caked on. I heard she got trained by Rabia Butt's (SUPERMODEL of pakistan) makeup artist! I went to Saleha for a trial and she was ridiculously expensive and her makeup is more for the runway...not bridal wear. It's more 'out there' and extreme type makeup. I ended up loving Zareen's makeup and booked her for my wedding! She was really nice and doesn't charge much for her trials so taht's a plus!

For decorations I would suggest dreamoccasions! They were definitely on the pricey side but they're sooooo worth it :-) You get married once, take advantage of it and make it memorable!

Good luck with the preps :-)

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

Here is a listing for a makeup artist in Chicago:

M.A.C Makeup Artist Spring Special; Bridal, Prom and Headshots](http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/bts/1075942521.html)

update:

i talked to anjum for decorations she said her stages start at $500 the smaller ones... thats reasonable

then i called amer... and he says his start at $1800! and then it can go up from there! and then i told him i have to meet syed and he goes i can meet you there i know him really well.... im confused. is he ripping me off?

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

Classy Girl, I'll send u the HSY pics

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

i tried sending it to u its not working...:( ? i'll try again in sometime

Salam everyone,

Welcome chester, Why dont you try someone else besides syed. I would say check out his work and others too.

Mehwish thanks alot for sending me HSY pictures, still waiting for any replies for Kaaya salon. Lets see who does the trial first and then we will see if kaaya is good or not.

Re: Make up artists in Chicago?

mehwish can u please try again... its [EMAIL="[email protected]"][email protected] (there are zero's at the end not the letter "o".. lol in case that was the issue) thanks hun!

so i went to chicago this weekend....
talked to syed, he had my dates. The price he offered us is a bit out of our budget so we told him we would call him back in a week. Hopefully we can meet somewhere in the middle. But inshallah we will go with him. FYI, didnt know amna was his student. Mentioned her name and got a long lecture lol...

went to meet with anjum for decorations, I think she was on something. She told me her stage would be $2100! Plus $1 for every mile traveled to and back. I was like you have got to be kidding me, when on the phone she told me $500-$700 and nothing for traveling. Yea right! And she also told me that Amer used to work with her and had learned from her. Ummm any ways, so that is not going to happen, since the stage was mediocre, and Amer had told me $1800 for a really really nice one. So I think im going to look locally for stage or do it myself.

Oh and also found out about Zeerum. I have heard really bad things about him. My sister-in-law got him for her wedding and he didnt give them the pics or video for over a year. He wouldn't answer their calls or get back to them, and then they had a HUGE argument and then finally he gave them their videos and pics.

Hope that helpls :)
