I got confused with that story too and luckily my hubby was watching with me so clarified what the whole drama was. Basically Shano’s mother had an affair with her bil before her marriage and Khalils father(who is actually his step father) came to know so brome off the engagement and married Khalils mother instead and Shano’s mother is now taking revenge on her big sis for marrying her ex fiance. I think that what is the story and what we understood.
Yeh this is what i understood also. She mentioned her khalaa was pregnant with her 5th child (khalil) but we’ve only seen khalil and the younger girls. The doctor is his cousin. Khaala divorved her hubby and after iddat she married her now hubby BUT he had already broken his engagement off with shano’s mum after finding out about the affair then married her sis. Lol
Shanos mother still looks at her bil in a weird way like she still fancies him! I love how shano diplomatically turned her abba ji ki kasam onto him lol eagerly awaiting for next epi now!

Adnan Malik is ruining it. He’s so stiff and wooden. On top of that, He can’t get his lehja right. A lahoria living in interior city speaking in anglicized urdu is a bit hard to digest. Khalil ur Rehman was justified at least few meetings with the writer would have helped to get the character’s mannerisms. Ideally, Hamza Ali Abbassi would have been perfect for this role he suits the character with rugged tough look and can act well. It would have gained more popularity too.
Technically, the editing in that fight sequence was so sloppy magically khalil is on the floor then there’s a chop and we see fayyaz holding him by the neck like a bad hard cut and paste job. Close shot even revealed the fake bruises smudged with black marker. Then, Qavi’s beard looked fake. The playback singers voices do not match the characters’. The director(Ehteshaam) being the captain of the ship is solely responsible for these blunders. Someone like Shoaib mansoor would never tolerate such mediocrity.
Performance wise, kudos to Rehan Sheikh , Samiya Mumtaz and Naghma for incredible acting. Here you can tell the diff btw professional actors and the free loaders (adnan malik). Both Rehan and Samiya have worked on their accents and shaped it according to their character. They’ve lifted this play to a new level.
Mahira sounds too urbane for a village girl. She hasn’t got her inflection right a village girl speaks in a different tone and pitch. Although she looks pretty and adds glamor to the role but I think Sanam Baloch would have been a better choice. SB is effortless.

i must say it is very bold love story for an older age story.
i mean i get that the guy has been shown as the bold guy..but the girl was picturised as a girl next door so the scenes where they meet are awkard.
and i dont see how the parents allow him to come home, to their daughter room alone..as if he was the husband. it’s so strange for parents to let this romance happened within their house when they are against the rishta.
I said the same thing as your last statements. I think the conclusion here is that they are cousins and very much allowed freely in each other’s homes.
they pretty much only show cousins love story in pakistani drama. i am not surprised on how easily they meet each other..but on how easily and boldly they meet when the girls parents are clearly against the rishta. I could not understand why everytime he comes at the door, the mum let him in. a real villain would shut the door and then the hero would climb the wall.
oh well.
and the low neck an dupatta on side does not suit the village location and the era shown.
OMG the emotions on Shano and Khalil’s faces at the end made me tear up.
