Mundu is white in color. Lunging is Multics colored. Lungi mostly is not split. Mundu is split vertically. So one needs to exercise more care to ensure complete " protection" from phoren glances.
Both can be tied half mast - esp when Mamooty fights.

I think that type of dress is worn by Maharashtrian ladies. Esp fisherwomen.Hattori-san mat be able to throw more light cause

II) he watches more south Indian movies
III) he is known to whistle when said ladies grace the scene

Those who west mundu automatically start speaking in fluent Tamiyy. Just as those with Japanese name speak fluent Japanese.

In Southern India, Dhoti is worn in entire deccan by older people, in nothern India, rural people are still in dhoti. Lungi is more prevalent is south of telangana. I think Kosta and Rayalseema people wear more lungis than dhotis.
Origin of Dhoti is vedic civilization but no idea about Lungi :)
people don't wear lungi outside ,except for daily workers. who use it for comfort while doing physical work
pancha is tradional wear of entire andhra/telangana,we call it pattu pancha similar to pattu saree (silk)....
lungi is more familar in tamil nadu,people wear it like pancha/doti outside their home
here in andhra sometimes we refer tamil nadu as lungiland
