Whats the difference?
Heard that is East Pakistan (now BenglaDesh), Muslims used to wear lungi and Hindus Dhoti to distinguish themselves?

and I always thought dhoti n lungi are same,dhoti in punjabi n lungi in Urdu :p

in urdu its langoti… bhagte chor ki langoti
langoti se yaad aaya langot jis se ‘langotiya’ ki term nikli hai…
ab ye sari cheezen aapus main kaise link hai

both are same, dhoti is in punjabi, lungi is in urdu
langoti is something else, its the shortest of them all, desi underware
baqi har zaban main alag alag naam hongay, bandhnay ka style bhi mukhtalif hay
kuch samnay bandhtay hain, kuch peechay, kuch side par. kuch ki pairoon kay neechay tak hoti hay kuch takhnoon tak aur kuch ghutnoon say bhee ooper
aur wo to aapnay suna hee hoga, dhoti dhoti na dhoti na dhoti
hamaray yahan forum par "dhoti main dhamaka" ko to sab jantay hain, kisi zamanay main aik thread bhi tha "dhoti kay faiday"

lungi is like night wear similiar to shorts which is used in home ...
normal traditional wear we call it pancha in telugu which is similar to dhoti
also generally south indians(atleast here in andhra) don't prefer traditional clothes unlike northern part,shirts/pants have been used since grandapa generation here even in villages

aur ye bhee dhoti hi hay, magar lacha zara reshmi kapray ka aur bharkeelay rangoon ka hota hay, taqreebat waghera main pehennay k liye
