I was given the same Quran to read and same ahadees, sunnat to follow. Why did I never feel close to Allah? My life has been great and I did not go through any hardships to lose faith in GOD...i just never really felt he was there :p
Not everyone feels Allah is their personal phriend.
I am not one to give verdict on some's religion neither I have enough knowledge to convince someone. Its b/w person and God.
All the students read same text books in school, some learn more from it, some learn less and some just dont get anything from it but most of them have good time at school :)

^lol another bad analogy... I was a grade A student most my life. Telling kids to feel and obey something they can't touch, feel, smell, or see. well, that's just asking for too much. However, too much of a lie eventually becomes a truth....but still remains a lie. Another thing is, there are so many of them, how do I know who's right? For all I know, they could all be dead wrong!
There are a million versions of historical records, should we just pick one and believe it because it's been taught to us. wouldn't you after reading 12 or more versions of the same historical event change your mind about what you initially believed? Perhaps there would be doubts in your mind about it not being true....

In old days people used to scare kids of "bhaooo" when they dont go to sleep and they do used to get scared. I wonder what made them...when they cant feel, see, touch and smell ..bhaoo

yeah it's your worst one yet... you can scare kids with anything. Heck, my cousin used to wet her pants seeing Noor Jehan's face on TV! eventually the kid grows up to realize no Bhaoo is going to come and get him if he doesn't go to bed on time. Can you blame him?

hell I was scared of her when I was a kid but unfortunately she was my ammi's fav singer so ....
but guess here we are talking about things that we cant see like God and bhaoo. You said you cant make kids believe on things they cant see/touch. I just proved t hat they DO believe on things they cant see and touch.

Have you met his parents? What kind of people are they? I see you live in NYC -- were you born in the US? What about the fellow -- India born or American born? I ask because that may have bearing on expectations of both the parents' generation and your generation.

Honestly, there is nothing that can be done unless your parents agree to let you marry him regardless of religion differences. Do keep us updated, and you being the only child, they may be more lenient and understanding. And at least your guy is still a desi so no cultural clashes.

OP, I've just seen the thread you started about your father having a poss problem with you just travelling with non-mehrams on the subway or in a work environment.. You're going to have to be really really careful with this..

which energy are you talking about? Are we talking about feeling the paranormal activity energy, if so i see your point. Otherwise, what do you think you see when you see lightning strikes? energy is a physical quantity. Matter= energy. examples of energy: thermal energy, kinetic energy, electromagnetic< all can be felt and seen.
