Rhia :)
For salt, we say looN without the R, but interesting nonetheless
A couple more:
pauRi = seerHi = ladder/stairs
Thau nahi reya = chayta nai reya = yaad nahi raha

ditto. me and you must be related Sehar.
Or maybe my clan and yours are deadly dushmans with feuds stretching back centuries ![]()
which reminds me:
chaggraH = argument - something we specialise in.
p.s. it’s not a lost word, it’s used too often to be described as that.
Xtremo :o
I may be related to miss blue but you? I hope not :D The theme of the thread slowly changed over to just common words that everyone wanted to share. It's all good.
Now give me another word.
Khapp = shor
You don't want to be related? Tough - we're all Hamsheeras :p
'HaukraaN maarna'
what do you reckon that means?
ok you got me there, i donno that one :(
My guess would be that haukay means to 'sigh' so it's something related to that?
I’ll tell you later. First let’s see if we can finally stump Chanmahi with this one :k:

Doesn't it mean something similiar to hanngreh maarnah as in shouting loudly/crying ect.
spot on :k:
Chanmahi couldn’t handle it so I guess that makes me the new Champ of Punjab ![]()
Aaho…
@ haukraan marna
Kenny beat me to it. ![]()
In sraiki that would be hakkal marna and another word in my punjabi would be kukaaN marniya.
There are lots of words here I don’t use when speaking ‘mohazzab’ punjabi but it all comes flooding back when I go back to Pakistan and all the elders use such words in the conversation sometimes only to confuse me. ![]()
my fav these days that I've been torturing my mom lately with is 'saanu kee'
sometimes I spot my parents using a novel punjabi word and so I'll use it for a few days and then forget it. aah, there is one that was brought up at the breakfast table two saturdays ago and now I can't think of it :(
Sehar, I knew all your words :D some of chann ji's are new
ok...Can someone tell me what "waKHi" is? (Sort of wakh-khi)
isn't wakhi your ribs?
I might be totally off on this.

wakhi= kidney area.
anything else?
Mr_Xtreme: You've got competition for the punjaab crown.
heh! that was fast.
Ok...what is a "ParHoli" or "BhaRholi"?
Hayaa, sehar keep quiet.
that reminds me of abida parveens "meray yaar di kaRholi"
I might be doing what some of these guys did with the laung gawacha lyrics...
baRholi= those mud made pots where u put money in on weddings.
are u sincere or just testing us?
ok i've got a few words, see if u can get the meaning:
Didaawer
Hauka
Paitee
Oukhaa
Lungri
Ghotna
SijjRna
Thats all i can think of right now.
kenny: Just adding new words. ;-)
Next word:
"Mogha"
kenny there's such a thing as being too much of a paindoo. 'fraid that disqualifies you from 'Champ of Punjab' contention :(
