I don't understand why everyone is after the US to officially apologize for the movie. The US had nothing to do with the movie!! Yes there is a Constitutional right to freedom of speech and some ignorant imbecile decided to exercise that right for the sole purpose of propagating hatred amongst the Muslims. Time and again Obama and Clinton have condemned the movie in the strongest terms possible. I don't realize what exactly the Muslims want the US to do...it can't go against its constitution. I can go hire some actors and make a B rated movie about Jews and portray them to be manipulative, conniving back stabbers and there is absolutely nothing the US can do to me. I don't know why the concept of freedom of speech is so hard to comprehend.
Muslims all across the world seem to forget one small thing....the US, Israel, Jews, Christians don't owe Muslims anything! Since the beginning of mankind, each nation and religion has sought to look out for its own interests. So why do we Muslims sit here pointing fingers at others and playing the victim card?! Why don't we tell our leaders to come forward and condemn the movie? Where are all the Arab leaders? Where are all the Muslim presidents and prime ministers? Or are they too busy taking handouts from the US? We are the ones to be blamed for the position we have been placed in. The world laughs at us because of the way we have behaved! 1.2 billion of us yet there is no unity or discipline amongst us. All we do is fight and kill our own kind.
And what exactly will come of the US 'banning' the movie (whatever that means in this time and age). Will we be relieved that there is no one out there making a mockery out of our religion? Will we be satisfied that no one is ridiculing our Prophet (p.b.u.h) anymore? There will always be people doing such acts. Just because one movie got leaked doesn't mean there aren't others out there! When will we get out priorities straight and focus on things that will make us stronger, more educated and more unified.
Ban the movie and do it officially...
Don't give us a lame excuse and hide behind freedom of speech because it is not. It's a Hate Crime.
That is All.

Do you know the definition of hate crime? The movie didn't cause actual harm to anyone. No one was hurt other than the fragile egos of our fellow Muslims.
People aren't even aware of the legal definitions yet want to ban this movie just because they're hurt. The behavior of Muslims across the globe has hurt Islam much more than the movie itself!
Youtube/Google head quartered in USA and its business is governed by US laws. There are laws against hate crimes. The movie comes under hate speech and US has everything to do with a hate speech running under its nose and not doing anything about it but doing mere lip service of condemning it. We appreciate their condemnation but reject their excuse on not taking it out from the database of the hosting company.
we will spend time/effort on useless issues like this since i think some ppl feel it makes them more of a muslim and probably is a short cut way to getting ‘sawab’ and overlook on bigger issues which actually require change from our side and would make a difference.
You know, just to make the life of Muslims living in USA peaceful, we can't ignore to respect our Beloved Prophet Mohammad P.B.U.H!! Its natural! Its unbearable!
Queen, you can't be serious here.
You think one YouTube video has the ability to disrespect the Prophet (saw)? You think all it takes is a video?
Sooooo...it seems the respect and memory of our beloved Prophet (saw) is very delicate and easily threatened. One video is all it takes to get our entiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiire Muslims Ummah up in arms. That's all. I wonder what would happen if someone waltzed around with a piece of bacon.
Don't give us a lame excuse and hide behind freedom of speech because it is not. It's a Hate Crime
Its not a crime...its HATEFUL and I hate that it happened. But no one committed a crime.
i am tired of us blaming west for our problems. i think this mindset is one of the reasons what is holding us back from making progress. we are our worst enemies.
Thanks for saying that.
I really hope and pray that someday we learn to be bigger people. Because we claim to follow the best religion on this planet...which should be making us better people. But its not. All we seem to do is move two steps forwards and ten steps back.
Its not like we don't get any crap out here people. We get stuff thrown in our faces all the time. My dad came to the US at a time when being different was considered a crime almost. He's heard and seen the worst discrimination EVER. So no, we don't live in oblivion. I used to be hijabi (before 9/11) and it was pretty common for me to hear comments like "omg, do you guys wear that to the shower too?" or "do you have hair under there?" or "do you guys worship the sun?" or "omg, its towelhead". I would get upset...cry a lot and pray I would turn blonde and blue eyed over night. I've ignored a lot of stupidity including being called a terrorist to my face for doing nothing aside from ringing up a customer a few years ago.
Don't tell me we're sheltered here and don't know what's happening out there.
One video made by some jaahil who has no idea about my faith or who I am does NOT hold the power to insult or tarnish the memory of our beloved Prophet (saw). The people who give this idiot that power by allowing him to piss us off so much that we've got our OWN dying in response...............are the ones responsible.
This diversity and confidence that people have here...has been earned over years and years and years of anything but. No one hands you respect on a silver platter...you earn it.
Your faith should be defining you...not your anger. Someone once told me ghussa haraam hai...and when I see all of this...I get why.
Everyone is so upset about a video insulting one of the best men to have ever lived...but no one has bothered to do or even think about what He would have wanted us to do.
I think it is fairly categorical that the people here neither contributed to the unjustified acts of madness nor condone it. However, some of us disagree about how to respond to it ... There have been the following responses:
A) Ignoring the video ... Criticising the Muslims for reacting badly
B) Vocally condemning the video ... And blaming this to be the cause of the madness by Muslims
Just as Muslims living in the west cannot be judged by the Muslims in the East for not being more passionate, likewise the Muslims in the west should not judge the Muslims in the East for being so ... We should always look to the root cause. There are many people who have not been breaking things in the East ... So it is not fair to paint this picture.
Some people even think they need to cause widespread damage in order to show how much they love RasoolAllah (SAW) ... But this show may be a total drama, or it may be genuine ... And they know no other way of expressing that hurt sentiment, which makes it an education problem. Others who join in may be doing for political reasons or vent out built up frustrations for totally other reasons.
Likewise, in the West, our perceived patience may be a result really of our own fear of the government or of our social circles with a mixed audience. We may not really be ignoring it out of a sense of greater moral outlook, but some probably are ... Some of us are probably so distant from the love of our prophet (like in the East) that it is easy for us to ignore this matter.
So we need to realise this whole plethora of reactions ... There was a point in time when I used to criticise our own people for making my life harder ... That I found to be a very selfish approach to life. These days when people try to talk to me at work about what certain Muslims have done ... I try to show a sense of solidarity with the Muslims, because I know what the intent is behind all this (divide and conquer). I clearly say that the people who reacted were wrong to react in that way, but our feelings are hurt and rather than focussing on the symptoms of the problem try to see what was the root cause.
It is about struggle ... Jihad ... We should not be afraid of putting ourselves out of comfort to stand up for what is right. We do not have double standards. In the same way we can condemn our religious bretheren for being unwise, we should at the same time condemn as vibrantly the actions against our prophet by our countrymen, and at the same if we feel the urge to cause destruction, we should struggle and do Jihad against that feeling or urge ... For the violently inclined amongst us his jihad is to calm down, for the calm inclined amongst us his jihad is to try a bit harder to sympathise.
The theme here is to be 1 ummah ... So let's try to be that inshaAllah.
Ban the movie and do it officially...

Ban the movie? From what? The internet? Lol good luck with that. Next up, banning porn from the digital sphere.
The fact is people perceive Muslims as intolerant of others. They think that we react to any criticism of Islam with violence and intolerance. I guess we proved them wrong...This is exactly how Christians used to be. If they can ignore the constant jokes about the Pope, Jesus, and their religion in general, then we need to learn to do so as well. Have you considered the fact that there are people who are agnostic/atheist, and while they are perfectly willing to let you practice your religion, they are not going to follow the orders of any religion just because something is offensive.
I'll say it again. If it's offensive, don't go looking for it. Do you think this movie is the only thing on the internet that's offensive to Islam?

Right, because the political and legal sh*t storm that would ensue from a President forcing a company to cater to the whims of people from another country, is totally worth it. Please come back to the real world. This is a non-issue.
I just googled and found a website that's highly offensive to Muslims; it criticizes the Prophet. If I post the link, will that be your next crusade? Don't you have anything better to do?

I sought it out and watched a few minutes of it, but then I stopped it and went somewhere else on the net ... I agree with what you say. I still however, find it inappropriate not to speak against it. Our silence may be dangerous for weaker Muslims, and may be a meter for the unIslamic elements to gauge how faithful we remain to our cause. To a certain degree we have given it more fame to another degree the makers knew we would so they did it intentionally.
Verily! As for those whom the angels take (in death) while they are wronging themselves (as they stayed among the disbelievers even though emigration was obligatory for them), they (angels) say (to them): "In what (condition) were you?" They reply: "We were weak and oppressed on earth." They (angels) say: "Was not the earth of Allah spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?" Such men will find their abode in Hell - What an evil destination!
Most Americans are nice people but there are certain hate groups continuously coming up with hateful material against American Muslims and Islam and that will eventually lead to more hatred. Bill Maher is one of the examples....the stuff he says he wouldn't be able to say that against Jews or black minorities. My question is why some of you living in America can't criticise your country for having hypocritical policies? And yes people in east are savages and uneducated but guess what this movie was made by a person living in apparently the most civilised nation.
That awkward feeling, you get when you see people fighting for “innocent americans” and forgetting their own innocent brothers and sisters in faith. When they forget that people show their anger not against an individual but against the whole nation that individual belongs to. And they forget that if by having 1-2 americans getting killed in consulates siege (which is indeed sad and should not have happened) when life of all “real muslims” living in USA becomes difficult how is that country “good for muslims” and how is it rationale thinking of its citizens? How about hundreds, and thousands, even hundreds of thousands innocent muslims being killed around the globe by this same country, USA, that doesn’t make the life of “real muslims” living in USA any difficult?
And they take every incident in isolation, conveniently ignoring the big picture, the global happenings and the mood of the masses, and the reasons behind it all. Picking up incidents one by one, condemning the already condemned and making their cause look more baseless. Portraying them as uncivilized wild creature that is out to kill the civilized ones, and ruin the lives of “real muslims” living in the west.
When the charge of killing of 2 americans can be leveled against the whole muslim umma living in “non-western countries”, why cannot same logic be applied and charge of killing hundreds of thousands of innocent muslims around the world can be leveled against the whole American nation to be specific and whole western world in general? And don’t forget the unimaginable difference in number of “innocent” people getting killed, there is no yardstick for that, it seems.
Even more awkward when such irrational rant comes from our more learned and sane members.

errr no.
Criticism is one thing but mocking a prophet who's loved by billions of people of a faith should not be acceptable. I'd say American president and few others who condemned the movie are better people than muslims living in America. At least they had the guts to call a spade a spade and they didn't just "ignore" it.
and something to add to what i said before, and to answer the original question, that is, how is USA responsible for it?
USA is responsible for it as USA projects itself to be responsible of taking down everything happening in every corner of world which goes against her "plans" and dream. USA is responsible because it happened on their land, just like USA said Afghanistan is responsible because osama was hiding there, even he was not even afghan. USA is responsible because this dreaded act of hate was only possible because of their faulty "freedom of speech" mess and their dual face towards the muslim world. yes USA is responsible for not doing enough.
