We are sad generations - wonder why cant we close the door behind and stop living in past
Becuase the past is very relevant to the Future experience is everything man. :)
I think the Past often helps see the way forward many times we have seen so called revolutions that sweep away the past and try and bring something new but most those fail becuase the future cannot progress without the past...

Yes - so the bottom line is - you learn from it - make your strategies for the future .... You dont live in it ....
but sadly The only lesson we learn from history is that we do not learn from history ...
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
.... You dont live in it ....
Theres nothing wrong with living in the past if the Past was better though. I am sure most People around the World would agree they would deep down prefer a World without the dangers of what we have today...
Though I agree we dont learn from History.

No, if your past was better and you start living that then you loose perspective. You ignore today's realities. This is like today's decendants of Mughal kings try to live like Shahjahan.
You should revisit past for self-analysis that where things went wrong; come back to present and try live a better today for a past like future. One can't have the same glory he had, just by living in past.

Exactly.
I have another point to make.If we can't learn from history or from our past, there is no no need to follow our holy books aswell. Many of our holy books have given us examples by examples how to lead a good life, how to learn from the mistakes we did.We can never dicth history and move forwards. It's a part of us.
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
Well it’s obvious we have very differing views but 99% of the time the reason why a lot of these so called Modernists dont like the past is becuase they could not last a minute in the past times… take away most peoples Mobile phones these days and they will be hopeless. ![]()
But yeah I get what you mean by perspective so a balance is a better option… that said you still cant bash the past if it was better. ![]()
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
I think now we are derailing the thread. This topic itself deserves a separate thread. Let me fix that 1st and we will resume discussion there. :D
Re: Living in past?
I don't live in past or present. I live in my own world. (doesn't mean I do drugs, I'm talking about having an imagination)
Re: Living in past?
You close your past and you are no more.

or you're a completely new person with a fresh start.

Can you every truly have a new/fresh start? I think it's impossible to divorce the person we are today from our past, including our experiences, relationships and mistakes. I'd say we have to manage or mitigate the impact of our past on our present, but denying or starting fresh would be impossible.
Re: Living in past?
Ok, lets start with very basic definition of "living in past". When we say don't live in past, its not same as saying "forget past".

I agree with Uncle F....it's not same as forgetting your past, it just means to get over your past.

No way.

:sid: Oops, I took your comment too literally then. Glad you clarified ![]()
Re: Living in past?
at least one could try.
:k:
Re: Living in past?
our past decides our future.
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
But able to live without “modernisation” is NOT living in past. Let me put it this way, lets say in past I use to have a Ferrari, now I drive an Audi because I can’t afford it. Now if I try to maintain a lifestyle I used to have when I was driving a Ferrari or always brag about having a Ferrari (hence giving impression that I still have one), then it’s LIVING IN PAST.
Now If I revisit my past and reflect on what I did wrong that I no longer have a Ferrari then it’s a healthy thing because now I am on path of recifying my past mistakes and may have a Ferrari in future (IF i learn something from my past mistakes.
now the 3rd option, I forget that I had a Ferrari hence shut the past or “forget” the past. Then I have no hope of getting a Porsche in future, let alone drive a Ferrari again. This means I have lost the drive/will to change my future.
Both forgetting the Past AND LIVING in past are unhealthy.
Re: Living in past?
the past follows us around whereever we go. the key is not to dwell in the past the key to take the lessons we learned from our mistakes in the past and live a better present and hopefully better future.
it's something that has nothingto do with our generation.
