Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Exactly. So naive. Army arresting sitting ministers is akin martial law. They didn't do this in Sindh, they won't do it Punjab either. But the moment Army goes after PMLN goons, you watch how all laloo panjoo patwaris abuse Raheel Sharif and cry threat to democracy.

At best, a lot of PMLN rats will run off to Dubai which will only expose the party more the way it has exposed PPP and MQM.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Sharifs know if rangers come then rana sana ullah will not be the only causality pmln have to bear. Pmln will have to give up a lot more than that. So its highly unlikely that Sharifs would want rangers.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

You need to know Sharifs.. They gaveup Khosas, they gaveup chaudharies, they ignored Chattas, they have kicked Shk Rasheed out...these all were stalwarts on PMLN in 90s...if PMLN can survive without them, the Ranas and dozen other doesn't matter as long as they can win reputation of clean leadership or someone who can get their own people behind bars if needed.

PMLN need new leadership, the one loyal to its next generation.. And not Rana Sana or Khawajh Asif or Ch.Nisar..

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Well said Hanibal. There is no point discussing. Results speak of themselves. The fools are dreaming of PMLN extintion for 13 years and some even more. There are no other examples or very few when a Political leader can come back and win after exiled and thrown out by Military. Thing is that PMLN has huge vote bank starting from Shangla KPK to Rahim Yar Khan Punjab and than pockets in Khair pur, Sanghar and with its emergence in Thatta arear and solid backing in Nasirabad/Quetta for 2-3 seats. PMLN never got to complete its term to be able to get votes else where. In 2018, not only that PMLN should be / would be able to take close to 120 seats from heartland but will win 6-7 from both KPK and Sindh with usual 3-4 from Baluchsitan. People will still be calling it a Punjabi party.

You have said it right, PMLN actually survived and thrived without those who thoght they were invincible, likes of Chattas, Wattoss, Chaudries, they will do just fine. Call me jiala, call me what ever, there is no better option available. Imran could have been util he got used like a toilet paper because of his lust. PTI could have been that force that we needed but PTI became PPP for quick power that they will never get.

PMLN has new leadership in Saad Rafiq. Nisar, Asif are not best but they all know now that their political existence is tied with Sharif's. Nisar has done every thing for his invisible masters and still got nothing, he will become nothing himself if he doesnt fix himself. PMLN will survive and thrive, inshallah not because of Sharifs but because of others who cant even beat Sharifs in performance.

Losers will be Losers, Haters will be Haters.

**27 trains to be acquired for Metro Project
**

LAHORE: As many as 27 trains will ply the Orange Line metro train (OLMT) track with an average headway of two minutes.

Documents available with The Express Tribune indicate that 27 train sets, comprising of 135 cars, would be procured at an estimated cost of $1 billion. The project will be funded through a loan provided by China’s Exim Bank. These trains will run on the Orange Line in five-car formation that will include three motor cars and two trailers.

The new mass transit system has the capacity to carry 30,000 passengers per hour. As many as 300,000 passengers are expected to use the train daily. Operating hours of the Orange Line metro train will be 18 hours (5:30AM to 23:30PM).

Maximum speed of the train has been set at 80 kilometres per hour, barring some turns and curves.

Documents show that a double-track will be built, with three rails on each track.

The middle rail at the bottom of each track will energise trains with 750-volt direct current. These trains will have a stainless steel, fireproof body.

Wires and cables used on the rolling stock shall be halogen-free, fire-retardant and low-smoke. No flammable material will be used in the rolling stock.

Two high-voltage substations will be built near the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and the Shahnoor Station. Each substation will be connected to 132KV power supply.

The project will also have a Power Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (PSCADA) for monitoring, control and communication. This system will enable provision of data and control of the power rail.

The OLMT track will be equipped with telecom, radio, CCTV, a public address system and an audio-and-video recording system. The orange line will also have an automatic train control (ATC) and a modern signalling system.

In summer, public areas of the OLMT stations will have air conditioning facility with mechanical ventilation in other seasons. Fire detection, automatic and semi-automatic ticket selling and checking systems are also part of the design.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Without going into a long winded reply, I will say only that Democratic institutions take time develop. The solution to a "broken" democratic system is to fix the system through democracy itself... The reason that there is so much corruption, nepotism and other issues is because the political system has never been allowed to mature. Repeated military coups have helped create, and facilitated, existing problems within the political system.

PPP was once the biggest political part, and they are also monarchical and feudal.. But now they get no votes outside of rural Sindh. If the PML fails, and fails on its own merit, then they to will be sidelined.

There is no such thing as a genuine Democracy, and none are ever perfect. Electoral rigging has to be proven... That hasnt happened. Middle East is a mess today. Pakistan, while it may not have always been a Democracy, and there have been dictators, has always retained the underlying affinity for democracy.

I see Pakistani institutions evolving and improving. People are more politically aware. The supreme court is probably more independent today then ever before in Pakistan's history. NAB, 18th amendment, NFC, recent local elections... all signs that things are moving in the right direction.
Patience in this case is whats needed. 60 plus years of bad habits take time to outgrow.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

every project in Pakistan no matter who started was opposed by opposition parties and opposite public. both sides will bring their own set of numbers. for me motorway is the biggest lesson. i used to oppose it based on numbers and today whenever i use the motorway and get to lahore from islamabad in 3 hours or from Peshawar in 5 hours instead of 10 hours on brutal bone-breaker GT road, i say geo mian jee. and i swear i would have said geo bhutto had he built one.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

I’m not asking for dictatorship here, so please can you please stop excessively dwelling on it.

Patience does not mean lethargic stagnation, and complacent and anti-intellectual mindset that relies on time to fix everything instead of encouraging nation to always analyse things and strive for better. People will only fix democracy when they realise that democracy needs to be fixed, and the ways it could be fixed. If they don’t have the knowledge of what a functional, quality and transparent democracy looks like – how will they strive for it? How on earth we will have debates and exchange of ideas on democracy – if opposition to bad practices are considered a threat to democracy?

Yes today people are more politically aware (thanks to a military dictator, ironic right?) because a certain fraction of society has refused to adhere to that uninspired mentality - they really do believe that things could be be better and they would only get better if they raise their voice. If your house tap is leaking, would you try to fix it as soon as possible, or sit there and think that as long as there is no flooding in the house, it is okay if the tap is leaking indefinitely- at least we have a tap. So yes that attitude has to be dumped, and thankfully there are people who are shunning this attitude.

Middle East was far more developed than Pakistan can be in the next 50 years. They had the best roads, never ending highways, biggest housing blocks, tall buildings, massive population, natural resources, rich elite, and affluent middle class, utmost pride in their language and heritage, but unfortunately it was their complacent mindset with mediocrity, corruption, inequalities, secrecy, injustice, bad governance and Human Rights issues that became their downfall. Exactly the kind of mentality to fund in large section of Pakistanis.

So the point is, if concrete development and building of highways was everything, then Middle East would have been a heaven on earth today, and yes, likes of Saddam, Assad and Mubarak held 'elections' too.

I love your response. Classic. Typical stuff they say for rape, child abuse and virtually every crime in Pakistan. Name the crimes that actually gets 'proven' in the court in Pakistan.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

The type of roads and motorways Nazis had built in Germany - you wouldn't find them anywhere in the Europe. The design and technology was that superior for the time.

If Nazis were in Pakistan, I swear to God Pakistanis would have struggled to find anything wrong with them for another 100 years on the basis of excellent roads and motorways they had built.

Illiteracy and lack of exposure to civilized world is such an issue in Pakistan that people will celebrate motorway but would never question the fact that how on earth a massively undeveloped country's debt grew by $90 billion, where did the money go? Yup - give gullible nation the lollipop of big bus and a road, and put rest of the money in your pockets, and everyone will be ready to chant Jiyee whatever slogans.

Greece had its own little outstanding claim with Germany, and they managed to hold on to it, but let's see who comes to Pakistan's rescue when IMF strips the country naked in front of the whole world.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

sure, go and enjoy the road, but don't look at poor people wanting education and some hospitals for their health.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Pakistan has to be the only country in the world where already dismissal literacy rate has dropped down further by 2%, and the country has slipped below Bangladesh in the Human Development Index. Will they feel any shame and embarrassment or pressure? Nope.

But the country has a motorway and now a 250 billion worth maaltey rang ki train in a city with severe lack of clean drinking water. All hail the King.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

The way the government is pushing ahead with this project by demolishing shops and not giving the owners the rightful price, this has the potential to damage the ruling party's prospects in Lahore. There's already a lot of joblessness, it would be a disaster if more people are pushed out of jobs.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Are u kidding me!!!

Govt is paying the market price for the property and damages for business for those shops been effected...yes business on the route have taken a hit and for that you can see banners by trade unions asking political parties and civil society to let the project complete asap....

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Why shame or embarrassment? Metro hay na !

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

I have put forward how I have read the situation, if the shop keepers are properly compensated then pmln does not have anything to worry.
