Read proper news. The government counsel was present in the court and it was a proper hearing with both sides giving their view point. The stay order in this context is a just a reminder to PMLN from court to implement the 200 meters rule and until then the work is suspended.
One thing I might want to state and get corrected. Heritage sites are not destroyed only by demolition, but also the nearby construction or even stampede activity (like Moen jo Daro during Sindh festival). I don't think the international rule of not doing any construction within 200 meters of the site is made for the sake of it. When you go through travelogues of any writer visiting heritage sites across the world, they do mention walking in kilo meters to reach heritage sites (ruins). Were those countries not capable to lay splendid roads to the heritage sites?
A little commonsense would have been blessing...and one would not criticize for the sake of it...

Bash and blame your very own Lahore High Court and UN for 'criticising Sharif brothers of sake of it'. Clearly there is a global conspiracy against Sharif brothers.
But do you know how courts and legal system work? The courts don't hand out 'stay orders' and ask for suspension of major construction work because some random activists decided to 'cry'.
Aren't you acting like a typical PMLN Jiyala thinking Sharif brothers can do no wrong? You can just admit maybe there was some poor planning, and it is okay if it got picked up before it got too late? Don't turn Sharif brothers into Altaf Bhais of Lahore. Lahore is not their 9-0!!!!!

How about this from the report?
****The court asked Khawaja Harris, the counsel for the government, about the steps the government had taken to preserve historical buildings along the route.
***The court asked if the government had sought clearance from the departments before launching the project. Harris was unable to satisfy the court on these counts.
Though its not the final verdict and hearing has been adjourned till Feb 4, but the stay has been granted after raising question from both the parties.
On a separate note, @desert_bird, who do you report? I need your boss’s contact to lodge complaint. You are not doing your job properly. You are just good to post some random pictures and videos and unable to revert when faced with real concerns.
No one is accusing PMLN of being ISIS and "destroying" heritage sites. The idea is that PMLN's lack of professionalism and ill planned projects are putting them at "risk". Heritage sites die a very slow and silent death, and it is our responsibility to preserve them and increase their longevity by taking extra cautious measures. Even if it means a compromise of some flashy modern development.
You don't have to bring a bulldozer to "destroy" a heritage site. Heritage sites can be under a threat by various other side activities. If Orange Line even merely blocks the view of let's say Chouburji or Shalimar Gardens, that is a concern. That's a bad planning! Simple as that. Rectify it!
We don't have to turn Saudia into our undisputed role model. Look how the Kuffar Europe has preserved their history and heritage despite being 100% more developed than Saudi Arabia.
Is 50 ft less than 200 meters?? Forgive my ignorance of measurement. Google says 50 ft = 15.24 meters. This guy in videos says that there is no risk for Shalamar and Choburgi and construction will be 50 ft away from these sites. Then why rule of 200 meters? 50 ft sounds to near. Even elevator in our building is far from my bedroom and whenever they do so work on elevator, I can hear noise.
The guy in the report also says that 19th century GPO is going to be completely demolished. I don’t know the route of orange metro, but Data Darbar is not far away from GPO. I once walked from GPO to Data Darbar.
is anything being done regarding Karachi Circular Railway? if not metro, KCR will do for now. track exists. they just have to find rakes and take back the railway land beside the tracks from land mafia.
Last week I read some reports where Sindh Government agitated against Fed Govt for not even listening to KRC project during a planing meeting. But again PPP did nothing during its 5 years tenure.
No more off topic posts We are discussing serious issue
That doesn’t absolve Punjabi party sitting in federal government to do nothing about it. Pakistan is not Punjab. PPP did nothing they were booted out. Who knows in the next elections they may booted out from Sindh too if they do not improve.
A single track KCR is useless! A double track low cost train line would have been better from new sabzi mandi to the Tower alongside the northern by pass joining the KCR.
6 Indian cities already have it and 6 more will join this year. If PPP's first government would have continued till 1982. Karachi would have got this then - that PPP government spent a lot on Karachi!
The 2003-2007 era saw some development but they were all short-sighted projects.
Interesting that you mention India. They have launched a Smart City project where they plan to develop 20 different city across whole of India. A simultaneous development. Even if the programme is half successful at the end, it is still a very useful opportunity to take infrastructural, technical and human development out of their usual main cities. Modi is not a CM of Gujrat anymore, he needs to initiate across the board development in his country to win a second term. Hence the initiatives like Digital India, Made in India, Clean India, Invest in India, Smart Cities etc etc. It's all about whole of India. However his Pakistani counterpart PMLN Prime Minster doesn't have to do jack squat for any other parts of Pakistan to once again rule the whole country with 'heavy majority'. That's how utterly up effed Pakistan's electoral system is. India has a far superior electoral system than Pakistan.
Same case with China, the whole CPEC is actually a Chinese design to uplift their impoverished Western region. Now this is how countries with vision develop. India and China are future economic giants and they know economic progress cannot be sustained with regional and socio-economic inequalities.
In Pakistan, in this day and age when such tough regional competition is taking place around them, we still have parties like PMLN who think the country doesn't go beyond Lahore, (or let's say Northern Punjab).
The sickening level of antipathy you find in PMLN and their supporters towards development of other province is beyond disgusting! They should be ashamed of themselves. Their mentalities and attitude is a threat to existence of Pakistan, and no Pakistan must be Pakistan, it cannot have its identify as United States of Punjab.
This ‘neutral’ guy is a known anti-PMLN analyst and famous for such ridiculous news. Plan is to make a underground way from Mall Road so how GPO can be demolished. Data darbar is about 2 to 3 km from GPO and already 've an elevated track of Lahore Metro Bus passing in front of Data Darbar.
