How did you coem to this conclusion that for most pakistanis rape=sex? There are number of other issues that go into stigmatization of the victims. Rape or sex is not one of them. Your last statement needs revision, I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you really dont know about the pakistani society (not lived there long enough).

Okay fine, ur right that I haven’t truly experienced Pakistani society and about the stigma attached to rape victims, but the other part of my statement, that rape = sex, just read some of the responses in thsi thread, or in other threads, that rape is equal to sex to some people.

While it is true that these horrible acts do take place in Pakistan as well, we cannot deny the fact that glamorization of porn has an effect on the psyche of these youngsters. Do you not agree that porn desensitize these kids regarding sex? It not only degrades women but some of the crap floating around on the net is absolutely sick…you dont need to take my word for it…just google teen and see for yourself what kind of websites and vile shows up.

Kaleem - saying porn incourages or in some way helps along rape (not sex) is a way of excusing bad behavior.

Rape is not sexual it is a power play using sex, exerting control and making another powerless. Rape victims react differently from a person agreeing to sex. Again, they cry, plead, and sometimes try to fight off a rapist. Any of those things would stop a man/boy just out for sex, but a man/boy intent on rape needs those things.

Porn may encourage a person (man or woman) to want to experience sex sooner or to experiment, but it doesn’t encourage rape because rape has a different trigger - power and control.

The truth is that according to research done by NGO's, and local gossip in villages (which is a great source of iinfo) young boys and girls and women are being raped but the rape are not being reported.

Out of all of these posts the most disturbing to me is the one which states "I surely will".

If Porn and Pop were the greatest influences upon rape incidence then surely pre-TV, rape would have been minimal if not rare. It is well known that this is not the case.

So far as kids raping other kids is concerned. That is just a new manifestation of bullying. To the extreme - in a world where kids are being sexualised at an increasingly young age without the knowledge or the wisedom or the implication of consequence. You even see kids murder other kids in bullying. That is hardly due to porn.

O and the rape in Pakistan is less about the sex and more about the honour. It is coupled with seeing your woman as your posession, thus a woman raped is your posession tarnished and “lessened” in value - as all men (as is oh so obvious : ) want a Virgin bride etc. If a lady is married and raped, the dishonour is upon the husband, IS posession has been stolen and used and made “dirty”.

It is mostly about control and a fked up honour system.

I’ll give you an example. two tribes or families are warring. To get one back, they steal the sister, gang rape her etc. The brothers - have now been insulted - the sister is duely murdered by her own brothers this time. And new ways are thought out as to how this dishonour can be revenged.

Its about man, his dominance and value. imo.

I am sure the men enjoyed themselves, but it is more of an after thought than anything else.

The rape out of frustration is a very strong argument used by some quarters of society to justify prostitution. It is the selling of ones own posession and also helps keep potential rape cases down. I disagree, and I am not an expert in this field but i THINK a study was carried out which disproved that theory.

Either way, whatever.

I think the issue here is how can rape take place on the grounds of an educational insititution. Such an incident should never happen on the school campus, forget about who is the is to blame or who is not -- in the rape itself.

As for the difference between sex and rape - that has been outlined enough. But it is true that it is not always about power. Often yes, always no. And when a child is being raped repeatedly, despite the trauma, and the distress, their body at some point does start to respond, to enjoy it etc. I know it sounds horrific, but these are the facts.

Does porn have a role in it? Yes. The entire environment plays a role in the actions of a kid. Its the same issue as the violent video games and movies having an influence on kids. Such factors around children, can have a huge impact on their actions.

Bottom line : schools should put it at the top of the important issues to deal with list - and make sure such an incident never takes place in or around the school. Children need to be protected, esp at such places where they should be able to go for help.

Your concerns may be legitimate but here you are talking about a society where sex is considered normal healthy activity for young boys and girls. And being virgin beyond a certain age is considered embarassing mostly.

The same schools which enforce no restrictions on kissing, necking and touching and stuff. So going one step forward is not a gaint leap anyway. So when there are 10 kids having consensual sex, 1 bieng raped and he/she figured out 10 days later, Oh, everyone else was enjoing and I was not, so I was raped.

Rape is considered a very serious offense, but all the encouragement is provided in these institute.

In pakistan, situation is different…

Kids raping kids ----> non-existant, extremely rare

Pedophiles raping kids (mostly boys, more than 80% case) —> very common, a big problem. young boys are considered easy prey

Men raping women — > not rare, not very common either.

And again, remember - that consentual sex has nothing to do with rape. In a society where consentual premarital sex is okay - is not a society that promotes rape.
