Kenya Cup

Very good news that dish network will be broadcasting the matches.

130$ doesn't sound expensive when you have 2 best teams playing each other.

8 more days left!

I would still rate Pakistan as the favirtoes to win concerning Australia haven't played in a long time and plus they are playing against Pakistan.
Any team playing against Pakistan are now under dogs.

But much as I want Kenya to become a competitve team, don't you guys think their opponents are too competitve for them.

If Kenya wants to warm up for WC shouldn't they be playing teams of their class or a little better.

Instead of helping them get better it would destroy their confidence if they loose matches heavely against 2 best teams in the world.

Why can't the play India or Bangladesh first to get some victories under their belt so they can move up to play even more competitive teams instead of just going right to the best sides.

are they also showing ICC Trophy ? anyone know about that ?
if yes how much is the package ?

Kenya was not in the original tournament and was a replacement once NZ pulled out. It will do Kenya good to play the top teams, plus you never know the element of surprise.

I think instead of involving Kenya into this, they should have made this into a 7 match one day series.
So it could test out the abilities of each team.
Like Aus vs RSA series couple months ago.

^ well as much fun that would have been... it is good to atleast involve the host team (yah i know why its been held there) especially since NZ refused to come

Everyone is writing in their team for the tournament. a series involving Kenya allows Pakistan to experiment a bit so there is no problem in letting Nazie, Shoaib and Azhar have a go in the series.
To xpress i agree Shoaib Malik is a talented batsmen, byt using the SAfrica match is not a good example. He played a test match innings which Pakistan didn't need. A quick start with Anwar would have been better.
I personally think Tawfiq Umar should be opening Pakistan's batting with Anwar but he never seems to make the one day squad.
I would play Imran and Azhar against the Aussies and experiment with Shoaib Malik against Kenya.

Team V Aussies

Anwar
Imran
Youhana
Inzamam
Younis Khan
Razzaq
Afridi
Wasim
Rashid
Shoaib
Waqar
And Azhar in for Shoaib if he needs resting.

Team V Kenya

Imran
Shoaib
Afridi
Youhana
Inzamam
Younis K
Razzaq
Azhar
Wasim
Rashid
Waqar

P.S Does anyone know what the pitches will be like like whether good for spin and whether they are small etc.

Pakistan jetted into Nairobi from Morocco on Friday for the series which was moved from Lahore due to security concerns. New Zealand were also supposed to take part but withdrew from the event.

Waqar admitted Pakistan failed to live up to their potential at the Morocco Cup, where they finished last after failing to qualify for the final.

Sri Lanka beat South Africa by 27 runs on Wednesday to win the Cup.

“We struggled in the middle order but we will correct such mistakes here,” Waqar said. "After all we’ve been playing well in the last one year where we had a great series in Pakistan against New Zealand, we played well in Australia and Sharjah.

"It was just unfortunate that the team failed to click in Morocco. We are still a very good team capable of beating any good side.

"The return of pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar is especially handy. Having him striking for us is positive and very handy. We welcome him back.

“We take this tournament very seriously as it serves as our home series. With the World Cup around the corner, we will play professionally, especially against Australia who are the greatest opponents and event against Kenya who have come up pretty well in the past two years.” he added.

**Pakistan squad: Waqar Younis (captain), Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Wasim Akram, Yousuf Youhana, Rashid Latif, Abdul Razzaq, Younis Khan, Imran Nazir, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik, Azhar Mahmood, Mohammad Sami, Misbah-ul-Haq. **

Pakistan's Youhana sent home from Nairobi tournament
Reuters - 27 August 2002

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Pakistan batsman Yousuf Youhana has been sent home from the triangular tournament due to start in the Kenyan capital on Thursday, officials said on Tuesday.

"Yousuf Youhana has been asked to return to Pakistan from the current tour. A detailed report has been sent to the Pakistan Cricket Board and the matter explained to the chairman of the board via telephone," Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed said in a statement.

Saeed declined to discuss the issue further, saying it would be unwise to do so before the Board and the chairman were informed. He said no replacement would be called up.

Youhana, the 28-year-old right-hander from Lahore, was named in the 15-man Pakistani squad for the triangular tournament also involving world champions Australia and Kenya.

Youhana has also been included in the 14-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in Sri Lanka in October, but officials could not say whether he would miss that tournament as well.
